Opinions please.

Do I leave the Mk1 Fiesta on its original, horrid wheels?

IMG_20200722_094802.thumb.jpg.a792607752f111a1f5c603d2fbf958fb.jpg

Or faf around modifying the chassis to fit these whizzwheels?

IMG_20200722_094720.thumb.jpg.fa198fecaead9285de128dbe211e87ca.jpg

Or does anyone have any 1:43 wheels they would part with?

I was late getting to the boot sale this morning so obviously it was the biggest I've seen it in ages. I did pick up a few things though (surprisingly), proper pics will follow this afternoon..

I can see wind-up Sciroccos.  Do they wail too?

ANOTHER blue Dinky Merc 250.  First dibs if that's a sell-on please

Corgi Cadillac Ambulance missing bulb which more than likely means it's missing the battery cell box too

Corgi 2CV

I am a spoil sport, sorry

VERY impressive! Only one misidentified but a splendid effort from one shitty photo..

I'm going to guess at Matchbox Toyota Supra as the white thing bottom right...

And it looks more like a Solido 2cv missing its roof to me...

Not impressive. Very sad.

Yes was too hasty on the Solido 2CV

But it's still an EFSI

Bought this Kidco 'Lock-ups' at car boot for 50p

I think it's supposed to be a Dodge Monaco.   It dates from 1982 and measures to approx. 1:74

20200721_172550257_iOS.thumb.jpg.872245aa7c482a574cb14c214f4bc438.jpg

The casting is ok and it does have rubber tyres.  Which is a bit of a waste of effort as it has an all-wheel locking mechanism to stop it rolling.

20200721_172618980_iOS.thumb.jpg.e4feaa384c7ab91ae9821523336ff05a.jpg

I don't quite understand the concept of locking the wheels with a key and promptly loosing the key in the bottom of the toy box.  What was the boardroom meeting like when they proposed this play-value idea?  Was it a reflection of the board member's company Dodge Monacos getting stolen in succession?   And why did they assume the Fire Chief was also at risk of losing his ride?

20200721_172631233_iOS.thumb.jpg.6f4895e918c4bc4dcaa7722ad51b44fc.jpg

I was going to look it all up on the CogPedia, but have lost my copy

Is there any interest in the Solido 2CV? I only ask as I can have the pick of the cars I pictured a few days ago, and I think the early 2CV is a 1:36 Solido effort.

I did grab the LT which I'll throw some pics up of later

Bought this Marchon 'Tune Up' thing off @C1am

Never heard of Marchon Inc, it's also stamped 1986 but no county of origin stated.  A stateless Chevrolet.

It's around 1:46 in scale and has tried to be a 1957 Chevrolet in an authentic* customised form

The front bumper is jutted out in an ugly way.  What were they thinking?

20200722_141158984_iOS.jpg.422062479118a127ccd16a5b3b33b44c.jpg

But get this - if you lift up the 'engine' you find an 8mm hex bolt and a latch to the side of it.  Click the latch and - wow! - the ugliness recedes

20200722_141405879_iOS.thumb.jpg.1a559d3d3851b919c5ec3055eb135b2d.jpg

What the hex bolt does I don't know.  All it seems to do is move a ratchet a quarter turn either way.   I can see it moving something internally, but it doesn't seem to change anything.

Mind you, the rear wheels are locked-solid and it has an opening at the rear like Stormy Daniels.  All is not lost, as it has screws on the base.  Will inspect another time.

20200722_141227946_iOS.jpg.0648854fac669517d6b9ae574d8fd54c.jpg

Found out this commercial from the time.  Ok, so it also needs a key.  But I'm still none the wiser until I get it apart

It's also stamped 'Patent Pending' on the base.  I think they may have been over-keen on the technology...

Here's the Transit I mentioned - story is my friend used to do a lot of transport for Ford into Europe. He was on the Zeebrugge ferry when it sank, and his Transit was lost (he survived thankfully). His friends at Ford made him this replica of it.

I guess this was once the milk delivery van by Corgi

Poor time management on my part led to arriving at the boot sale with only enough time to have a quick dash round so my apologies for not getting any pictures but there we are. These have been occupying the same chap's table for six weeks to my certain knowledge so it was inevitable really.. Chinese Sciroccos, clockwork or friction driven and goes in circles making a very peculiar noise. I definitely* didn't just test these on the floor of the van somewhere in sunny Essex. Hard to say a scale, 1:24ish at a guess. Also it's hardly a suitable vehicle to use as an ambulance really, now that we've had time to consider. If anybody fancies them, I gave a fiver, much to the chap's disgruntlement after I'd pointed out he'd had them ages.

I only really need a rear bumper for mine...

But you'll double your money on them I'm sure, when sold individually

Seeing @flat4alfa Kidco Lock Up reminds me I have one somewhere - I shall dig it out -  I do have these Universal (Kidco parent I believe) Dinky’s though.

The Corvettes both have detailed engines and opening hoods:

The day vans don’t do much but the blue one appears to be a delicately cast model (which the young version of me broke and repaired with mystery yellow tac!)

I have no idea why I’m duplicating pictures - enjoy the awfulness twice is my advice ?

I'm slowly collecting all those Dinkys. I'm half tempted to find the Kidco equivalents but you have to stop somewhere

Anything special about these Batmobiles?

50132892867_7ca338730d_4k.jpg

I put them on eBay last night and immediately got sent offers (normally don't allow them but eBay switches it on by default now). I got lost down a wormhole looking at a page listing all the detail changes over the years and it looks like they were made in 77 and 79 - not that rare surely?

I looked them up on your shop, but couldn't find them to check.  I assume you accepted a healthy offer

As a child, they were so common, they were thrown around the playground.  So you can imagine I wince at what even shoddy examples go for

I gave up playing the chase-the-tatty-Batmobile game and just bought the Jada one for a fiver instead

..... Schabak Fiesta XR2

Ahhh maaaaan that brings back memories.

I remember visiting Westwood and Clark Ford of Clacton-on-Sea (RIP) in '91 / '92 with my dad on multiple occasions for bits for his Sierra. The Schabaks were on display in a glass cabinet opposite the parts counter / reception, and I'd spend half of my time in there drooling over the models, and the rest drooling over whichever Scorpio was in the showroom at the time.

At the time, the Schabaks seemed impossibly unobtainable. I had several 1:18 Bburagos by then, but the smaller, pricier Schabaks were so tantalisingly exotic, with their "accurately" modelled wheels etc. And the subject matter meant so much more to me than any Bburago I could pick up in Wass or Williams and Griffins.

Posted

I have two Schabaks, the white Sapphire Cosworth and the rather nicer Scorpio in burgundy, I never knew there was an XR2 until today. I've had them since I was about nine but frustratingly can't remember where they came from. Nobody in the family had a Ford so it probably wasn't from Candor in town.

Anyway, some boot sale rammel.. Dinky Mercedes (dibsed already) and Corgi Cadillac Superior ambulance, both in pretty respectable nick really. Missing light on the ambulance but I'm strangely impressed that the Merc retains its star, albeit at a rakish angle. Six quid each didn't seem unreasonable at all in my book.

Solido 2CV and Burago Tipo in 1990 Bladderhoofing championship livery, not altogether my thing really but a little too nice to leave behind for a quid apiece.
