Shite in Miniature II

I found a surreal model shop in Kings Lynn earlier in the week, its a DIY/hardware shop and at the back of the shop has model trains and model kits, and a smattering of diecast. I purchased an Oxford merc Sprinter ice cream van in Dimachio's livery, for a reasonable £11.95

Remember this scabby, sorry old thing that I picked up at a car show a while back?

I've killed for less than your garages, Eddy. And old Huskies never fail to give me a horn.

On a different note, I papped this in the shop window of a car hire company in Calais:

Plus one on the garage too....Excellent job, must get on with mine. Loving the Husky stuff too, although that stab at Bedford tanker-ness is actually Budgie/Morestone. I don't collect modern stuff but have made an exception for those Jap Hot Wheels models after finding them in Asda a year or so back. Got the 3 yr old grandson into them and he always turns other kids toys over now to check they are genuine HW.

I have the Datsun too, it's ace.

I let my 2 year old choose from some of my surplus Corgis and Matchboxes that are in good condition. So to go with all his own Hotwheels he now has a 2cv, Transit supervan, original style Toyota Landcruiser and Mack ch600.

I have just noticed too, they don't make little toy cars with opening features any more. That's why I gave him the Citroen as the doors open.

Part of today's haul from a model bus show, mostly from a freebie box :-D

Husky Lancia Flaminia. The caravan is a Lone Star and I'd never seen one before

My brother had one of these but the motor/spring was never strong enough to have a good lot of rush hour traffic bumper to bumper!

If we ever start a thread on Top Ten Disappointing Toys of Youth that Motorway set would be Numero Uno. Really, really wanted one as a nipper. My mate got one for Xmas and I was jealous for about 10 minutes. I think it was shagged by the beginning of January. They didn't give you enough little sticky pads to get a jam going anyway! I still want one though, it would be a great way of displaying the cars....

My Uncle had the Matchbox Motorway thing too and I remember my brother getting it working after about 25 years of laying dormant. From memory, it was not a fluid action watching the few cars make 'progress' round the circuit. Don't remember there being and sticky pads to attach to the cars, so we used blu-tack and drawing pins underneath instead. As has been said, it wasn't an amazing experience seeing it in action but worth it for the box art alone.

It only bloody works

My nephew loves it,it's as noisey as fook though.

Here he is running a Datsun bluebird around it.

He can even drift it on the corners.

Your unknown XJ6 is a Corgi Juniors.

Posted

It is, I have a couple.  Corgi didn't always identify these later castings; witness the "US van" you have.  That may very well not say Corgi Juniors underneath either.  Annoyingly, it would appear that all my CJ XJ40s are still packed away, with the exception of one in police livery.  Which does say Corgi on it but doesn't tell you what it's supposed to represent.

Seeing as there's a fair bit of Rover R8 love here I thought you might be interested in seeing this prime piece of RC shite. Not so much miniature as it's a whopping 1/4 scale. It's made by a French manufacturer who went by the name 'Yankee' and dates from the late 80s/early 90s.  It's powered by a 15cc Yankee branded 2 stroke engine and goes quite well considering it's relatively (by 1/4 scale standards) small engine.

I've got a few more Autoshite friendly RC cars to show off if anyone is interested?

I'd be intrested in seeing them as could never afford a proper R/C car when I was a kid. Rover looks gr8!

Here's a few more then. These are all 1/10 scale. First up is my lovely Tamiya Subaru Brat. This is the original vintage version. Tamiya has since re-released it:

One for the pineapple brigade, the Tamiya Sand Scorcher. This is the re-release version and to add to it's shite credentials I painted it in British Leyland Primula Yellow.

How's about a Citroen ZX on steroids from Kyosho?

post-3973-0-37138700-1437681966_thumb.jpg

Another Tamiya, the wonderful Toyota Hilux. For those that aren't in the know, this is the first in Tamiya's  '3 speed' range. As the name suggests it features a three speed gearbox. A minimum of four channel radio gear was needed to change the gears on the move. Kit dates from 1981.

Last one for now. The real thing isn't exactly in Autoshite territory but I like it so I'll add it. Another kit by Tamiya and dates from 1983.

It's funny how Tamiya were able to design stunners like the Hilux, Brat and Sand Scorcher but the Quattro (and Ascona 400 on the same chassis) have far too short a wheelbase that buggers the proportions. ZX is a new one on me, I seem to recall Kyosho did an MGB around the same time as well.

Most of Tamiya's RC models were indeed stunners around that point so it's odd that Tamiya should decide to base the Quattro and Ascona (that reminds me, I've got one of those tucked away too) on the Wild Willy M38 chassis, I mean, that was never going to lend itself to stunning scale appearance.........

Kyosho did indeed do an MGB  in both electric and glow engine flavours. I seem to recall they did a Lotus Europa too. In fact Kyosho did a few different cars that no one else thought of doing such as the Sierra Cosworth in Texaco livery.......Here's mine.....

Nice Tamiyas! I've got a Hilux stadium truck on a TA02 chassis back at my folks' which I loved building as a teenager in the mid '90's. Here's an impression of what it looked like for all of about an hour before the inevitable scratches:

myprunner1.jpg

I got it from Otley Modelsports (are they still going?) and bought a couple of extra polycarbonate shells later on - one was the Beetle shell like the Sand Scorcher (my mate had a Blitzer Beetle) painted orange and the other was a Volvo 850 estate, painted red rather than touring car colours. I had to buy smaller wheels for that one, naturally.

I also have a Mardave Mini with a Clubman shell painted in Humbrol French Blue and also had a 205 GTI shell for it, painted grey. I only remembered owning that after buying a grey 205 GTI.

Here's an example of the 205 shell in a very period colour scheme:

I forgot to add: when I went to Otley Modelsports, it was a big purchase, so I made sure to look over everything available before buying the stadium truck I'd planned to get. What sealed the decision was that my mate was buying the F150 version at the same time, which made it more equal for racing about. Sadly, I could have had one of those 3 speed Hilux with the hard plastic shell all painted up, sitting in their cabinet ready to roll, obviously long term ex-display stock.

I talked myself out of it but the economist in me wishes I'd bought it, as they're worth quite a bit now, I think. Even then, I would've appreciated what it was, so there's a chance it wouldn't have been a fun buy, as I reckon I'd have been scared to knock it about.

Jon, Otley Modelsport are still going and now go under the name of Modelsport UK.  I've got the Chevy S10 version of the Hilux you had, never run and complete with a loud early 90s paint job:

The TA01/02 was a very versatile and well used chassis with Tamiya using it for both on and off road applications. Here's a couple of road cars from my collection that might be of interest to shiters. Again, it's a case of shite on steroids:

Calibra DTM from around 1994
