Finding a Corgi Commer BF at sensible money is getting harder. I know someone who's spunked tens of thousands on a real Commer BF/Smith ex Mister Softee, the van was rotten, totally rebuilt the wood framed aluminium body, brand new rear genset, and a totally brand new interior. Ian Smith of Leeds is an ice cream van nut, and I know him via his brother, who I went to school with. Check out his photos of the resto. The van is like brand new

I used to work on commer mr softee ice cream vans in the 60s when i worked at Rowhedge garage near Colchester.

had ford e93 sidevalve engine in rear powering genny.

Ran on parafin after being started on petrol.

Woe betide any mobiler that forgot to switch back to petrol before shutting off, as the damn thing would not want to start the next day. The vans had that distinctive sweet smell of burning tractor vapour oil as it was known as. Locally to me, Massarella's scrapped all their Commers in the early 1980's, they butchered the body of a couple, and fitted the rear ends to Ford Transit vans, and ditched the machine and genset, and used em as hard ice cream vans. Shame. Ian himself has restored many over the years, some even being exported, and one ended up in Merseyside, and painted in of all things Mr Whippy livery.

And just for a laugh, ages ago when bored I made this out of Lego.....

I used to associate that sweet warm fume-y smell with ice cream when I was a sprog.

Better photos of my latest diecast tat, including the latest version of the Cararararararararamalamalamadingdong mk1 Escort, and they've finally put the lights the right way round. Swapped the grille on it though with my purple fake 1300E version though, as the latest version as an all chrome doobry.

First up, the puss coloured Corsa

I bought this at my local swapmeet today. Skoda Estelle in 1:20. This is a plastic model and made by the same manufacturer as the 1/43 version I sold to Felly a few years ago. The engie lid still opens but sadly the brilliant side opening bonnet has been glued shut. It has also been resprayed.

Not really my thing tbh but it was so unusual I had to have it.

Please forgive me, if I posted these before, but in a further quest to reduce my big scale plastic kit collection, I got me these:

Dinky issued their Mk1 in kit form with Mexico transfers, unfortunately nobody seems to be remaking the decals but the kits never seem to go for much compared to the usual Dinky stuff....

Today I further reduced my 1/25 scale yank kit collection courtesy of an old hobby shop in Stoke.

"Just snap this beautiful car together"

Pretty much a perfect scale 1/25 GM production line, then. Body by Fisher.

Price.

Looks like a '76? I thought Jo-Han were all done by then but Wikipedia informs me the '77 Coupe De Ville was their last moulding.

Children's Hospice charity shop in Glastonbury, a worthy cause so all expenditure completely justified.

Picked up these:

Part of some kind of 007 partwork series. They look pretty good, too, though I've not opened the blister packs yet. Not sure if I will. Fiver each, eBay suggests I've not over-spent.

Also; a bag of five toy cars for £1.50. Most were nonsense, but this:

Jo-Han lived to the late Eighties. The last tool they made was the 1979 update of the 1977 Cadillac DeVille coupe.

In the 90s a few models were reissued by Seville Enterprises, then the tooling inventory was sold off never to resurface.

So are these!

Anyway I only mentioned it to make a very weak Fisher pun. Pun retracted.

You've done well on the Bond cars at a fiver. It's a massive series with some nice stuff in it. There's a vast amount of it floating Around at the moment.

I remember that Matchbox 6 legger pickup with the Honda decals, it had a removable part canopy in yellow clear plastic, and a small motorbike that sat in the back
