Been to the local model shop, picked this lot of 1/76 for a fiver...

Simca 1300 and Hilman Imp - both look like they'd been part of a diarama, maybe a used car lot?

M. A. N. of some description. Quite detailed.

I've just come across these whilst looking for something entirely different. Built by my dad in the mid sixties, I seem to recall him saying the Consul was an attempt to make it a Farnham estate using balsa wood. I think they're by Revell but only the Consul has a maker's name visible. I haven't seen them for years and had forgotten what nice mouldings these were.

Excellent!  I had a Triumph - TR3A I think - and I remember seeing the PA illustrated on the box (shows you how long I've loved the PA!).  I agree, I think they were Revell, and about 1/32 scale.

Also found these relics of late eighties summer holidays but still not what I was looking for, which I've now forgotten anyway

i have that Majorette R18 taxi too! Bought it in Brittany in 1983

selling the Revells?

Posted

No, I'll be hanging on to them. I haven't seen any others in this scale ,it's more like 1:43 than the 1:32 that you kind of expect kits of that age to be. I do have some sixties Revell slot cars though if they're of any interest?

Posted

yes I have a few Revell, Strombecker, Polistil slots. WHY?

Loads of Hot Wheels posted in recent pages

Though didn't spot their 1/28 scale efforts.  I have these two Can-Am era cars: Gulf-Mirage and Ferrari 312 PB

Not been able to find many in this scale though, so if any are spotted...
Say 'Made in Italy' on base, which made me think they were a Polistil or BBurago rebrand, but not sure

Came back from the bootsale with a bag full of tatty old shit diecasts. Here are a few highlights;

Majorette 205 - before and after cleaning, definitely been put away wet. Currently in bits in various chemicals.

This is an interesting one - must be one of the most-used Matchbox castings, moulds were sold and it's been a bazillion different promotional vehicles ever since. Never seen a pickup though - Majorette again.

I've been trying to buy a lot of Polistil, Mebetoy and Burago stuff lately. I don't really have any sort of interest in modern diecast, and the detail and subject matter they covered all those years ago is quite captivating.

I also managed to win a Fiat 131 SW by Mercury the other day.

An mystery parcel arrived today from Amishtat (thanking you) and I managed to convince my phone to focus on the contents, to a point, so here you go because there's some neat stuff in here.

These larger scale diecasts aren't my usual fare, they do seem to keep finding me all the same.  I'll likely just rechrome the bits that need it on the Fad-T and restore the truck, the two blue ones are actually in pretty good shape.

IMAG2681.jpg.f10ec8c6ec8248cd15252e15988f02dd.jpg

Whole bunch of fantastic wedgey goodness.  Certainly got potential when combined with some of my other spares stock though the Tyre Fryer and Cosmobile (the two on the far left) are in good enough shape to not really need anything at all.

IMAG2683.jpg.e687f9606fcb6fb2baebb9349bfd89a5.jpg

Handful of oldies too.  The Lincoln (far left) is in surprisingly good shape, especially the glass, and while the Unimog has seen better days it's the only one I have and very restorable.  Got quite a few Sno-tracs now too, they all need tracks and paint, might do some sort of fleet thing with them.

IMAG2684.jpg.2dcc6f407a74d35220d621d791b39860.jpg

Spottedlaurel provided these two.  The engine from the Red Rider is going into my older blue version of these, Pie Piper?  Something like that.  The peach looking Marzal is the only one of its type I have, my others are the earlier metallic burgundy colour, originally this one was flourescent pink and it always fades/bleaches out to this weird peach colour.

IMAG2686.jpg.98f05d3ccedbbf4ea61582cf81e502d9.jpg

To finish off the Amishtat mystery box are these randoms.  The truck has potential, might be doing a wheel swap on that one and make it more hot-roddy.  SD1 also has potential, got a few ideas for that one.  The VWs can go in the thinking pile for a bit, I like the colour on the buggy, I just haven't the faintest notion of what to do with them otherwise.

I think I've got that model T rod, but battered and missing bits.

Bunglebus, what's the chances of that Land Rover FC being available? I have a bit of a thing for forward control LRs.

The second mystery parcel from Amishtat and it's a good one.  It's quite a stylish car, the Montclair.  The only things missing are one rear light, the bonnet, and the glass.  I reckon I can make a copy of the existing rear light to replace the missing one, and I should be able to make the glass out of plastic sheet if I'm careful.  The bonnet is trickier since it isn't just a smooth plain panel, it's got a peak down the centre, letters on the front, a bit of trim to match the front wings and a bonnet mascot.  A mild custom panel is probably the answer here, I probably have the skill to build the plain panel, just not all the fiddly add-ons.  Probably two-tone in yellows, or pink & black.  I'll also probably keep the two ladies inside the car, they're actually pretty well sculpted so should be nice to paint.

Thanks Amishtat, I'm looking forward to getting stuck in on this one.

Managed to pick up a VW SP2 in Lidl while getting a few essentials (beer and some 3M duct tape).

I take back what I said about Hot Wheels, it’s a really nice casting. My eldest likes it because it’s beige.

Lunchtime tinker was had and the Montclair now has a paper bonnet.  Good as new.  It'll serve as a decent template for scratch building a new bonnet out of suitable thickness plastic sheet.  Rear light I'll probably make by using the plasticine method whereby you take a cast of the existing part in plasticine and cast the replacement with two-part epoxy, I've seen other builders get reasonable results from this for small pieces.  The kit appears to be stuck together with UHU or something of that nature too, so it should dismantle really nicely and rebuild well since there doesn't appear to be any notable warping of parts.
