My latest restoration attempt is this 1958 Matchbox Vauxhall Cresta.

As you can see quite tatty and overpainted.

Stripping the paint off, revealed it was a pink car originally,

So decided on a colour scheme that would reflect that.

Took it down to Eddys fuels, to top up the tank,

As when it comes to refuelling matchbox cars no-one does it better.

After all it's been his life's vocation.

"What you reckon eddy?"

"Nice car M8"

Some very nice pieces there....What's the Vespa?   French Dinky?

JM is correct, it's a Quiralu. French Dinky did make one as well but it's much smaller, i have one that I repainted many years ago.

Egg: I'd be happy to give that green van a home if it's not been claimed, it's one I don't have.  Please drop me a PM with details if it's still up for grabs.

You're all probably a bit sick of my posts, but I'm getting into this painting cars lark.

My latest idea was to sort this rather down-in-the-heel Corgi Metro.

I've only got a small selection of paints, but fancied something different. I decided to mix matt blue and metallic silver and just go with whatever came out. The result was a colour that... well... if British disappointment and dreariness were made into a colour, this would be it.

It's not perfect, but bear in mind there was no masking or dismantling involved

Did that one come from Splitz Carz? I had one just like it but gave it away. Nice to see it getting some love. Corgi Metros are Gr9 esp the 1/36 scale version.

Corgi Die Cast Draughtsman: "What are the 1/1 measurements of that new miniMetro so I can scale them down a 36th?"

Corgi Chief Engineer: "No idea, everything about it is embargoed at Austin-Morris until the car's launched".

Corgi Die Cast Designer: "Fuck it I'll just make all 4 dimensions exactly the same as each other then".

*Finished and gets coat, goes for pint*

Snap, I'll need to look mine out now. I also have the 1/24 Bburago MG version which was a mega-odd choice for an Italian manufacturer IMO.

Me too, I had the Datapost one too but God knows where it went. The larger one I had in blue, red and I think a peculiar pale green although I haven't seen them in a whole either

The additional model from Eddy means I have quite the line up!

If that red is original it would have come in the BP Garage gift set.....

I picked up a cracking little Hot Wheels (red Honda CRX) in the local Co-Op type shop this morning. At the till, once the lady reached the car when scanning, she said "make sure they don't leave this lying around on the stairs". OK love, I won't....

Thanks Merc, a lovely set, indeed I believe this one to be original. I will look after it! (And get some luggage for it in time)

I've got this Ford Escort MK2. It's a Powertrack slot car by Matchbox. It still works too!

Tyres are perished though...

There used to be a full size one round our way always seemed to have a ton of sand in the back - probably more as they were rated for that but this thing was always on the bump stops.   It was hand painted in a Vauxhall blue-green colour.   I have a couple of those Matchbox J2s - I must recreate that sand truck!

Top tip:  If you soak the Lesney bases with silver or grey plastic wheels in purple meths for 24-48 hours they go a little soft and can be removed from the axle and cleaned.  You can then push them back on.  BE CAREFUL, they are very easy to accidentally deform.  Usefully, this can allow you to make silver wheels round again if they've gained flat spots.  Rinse them off with water and leave them completely alone for at least 24 hours and they'll return to full hardness again.

top tip, I feel I could be a bit too hamfisted though!

I only found it out by accident the other day and I may* have squished a wheel a bit.  Best of all, no need to peen over the axle afterwards providing you remove the wheel from the small rivet side.

If it’s a genuine red one then don’t paint it as they’re quite scarce.

Asda round from work had five HW cars... two were red CRXs.

They only have two HW cars now... (nabbed both CRXs and a KDR30 Skyline RS.

Speaking of Asda and Hot Wheels. I just picked these up thinking they would be expensive, but the price was 74p old stock I guess. I might go back for some more. they also had a red CRX might get that too.

I've always liked these 57 Plymouths. I can see some modifications happening to these.

Hum... Do I paint one red, or is that too boring/obvious?

Paint it blue and white and pale yellow, make a Cold War Motors tribute out of it.

Be sure to splice something on it too.
