That is stunning!!

Love the details on those lone-star models,

Plus all the opening panels.

Fantastic.

I have the Container Port set - the trailer wheels do match the unit but are presumably a later type than the Burmah tanker.

The other lorry with it is more prosaic - a six wheel MB skeletal unit.

It's a good set, though.....Not something I had as a child as it is a good bit later than that but when a bloke waved it under my nose at work I had to grab it!

I'll throw on some pics of it all set up one day....

Yeah, they are great - some nice unusual subjects too.

I’ve the later edition of the container port. I think the trailer itself comes from the early version of the Convoy series. I’ll look it up later as it’ll bug me until I find out.

Posted

I think you are right, sierraman.....When I got mine the nippers had added some Convoy lorries to it and the trailers were interchangeable.

Posted

Initially the convoy range was called Long Haul and I think it was the trailer from those.

The early container port had the plastic copy of the shunter, the trailer as you described and I think a Mercedes rigid with a container on the back. The later stuff had just updated stuff and a metal shunter. The plastic stuff like the gantry, shunter and the boat are listed under PS1,PS2 etc so they may have been in other sets.

Posted

Yep the Merc rigid is in mine along with the yellow plastic shunter....I think it was largely a box update plus the parts you mention.

Some of those old Motorcity sets are quite scarce now, especially stuff that wasn’t very popular at the time like the railway set.

Some finds from last Sunday.

It is quite nice,as you can see it fits the matchbox minx perfectly.

A Ford Granada Mk2 made in Spain by Guiloy.

The original wheels were bent and broken,so I changed them for some majorette rims, they kinda remind me of the ghia alloy wheels.

Excellent work on the Guiloy Granada.

I am trying to get hold of more Spanish diecast but as they generally weren't available in the UK they can be hard to find.

I'm probably not helping, but I still have this Guisval Mk1 Espace looking for a home...

This is so good I think I'll just clean it and display it :)

Two Dinky Ami's and hopefully a Norev Ami incoming :)

I blame Junkman for supplying paypal funds.

That Dinky skinny feline diarrhea vending machine is indeed a good one.

Time to cut and hinge the sidewalls.

Would probably work out at a tenner at your door for two surf boards. Fairly sure you could craft these at home for pence.

Posted

There was a UK seller of the surf boards, but deleted from my watchlist now....perhaps they were re-selling in bulk from the Canadian seller.

I've had this one since I was young, pretty sure I've posted a picture here before:

Mine also has the plastic shunter, but the tractor unit is blue.

It was a Christmas present, and I think it still has the Tesco price tag on it for a fiver IIRC. Some of the contents have ended up in various other boxes, but it still has the cardboard base and plastic stands to prop the back up that never really worked.

Similar set was the one for the Harbour or the Railway Freight. Both used mismatch of bits from everywhere, the freight one used the ‘factory’ from the top Big MX Ford Tractor factory.

Nice work.

I had one of these a few years ago brought for 50p with a missing wheel centre on one wheel and sold it on for £4.50

I've got the Maisto MK2 Granada in the same scale marked as a 2.8 GL underneath in my to repaint box. I think they did a decent job of the casting unlike there MK3 Escort Convertible.

the burmah tanker is mb 63, the tipper is mb 50

they did the same with a leyland cab 30 & 14

Oh no, sad times.  My latest job lot arrived and they were all wrapped in pages from the D**ly M**l.  I'm hoping it washes off.

I now have three Land Rovers, probably because I wasn't even looking to get one.  This is the best of the bunch and the most complete so I'll leave it alone since it's not common to find a playworn one with all the bits still attached.  At least one of the others will get a zebra repaint so it looks like a safari bus.

post-5335-0-82986500-1541598872_thumb.jpg

I now have four of these.  This is the most grim and the most recent.  A previous owner has stuffed the boot full of probably-chocolate which is less than pleasant.  I don't mind this model, as it happens, I just didn't want four of them.

post-5335-0-20463300-1541599028_thumb.jpg

Speaking of multiples I don't want, I've now got yet another Field Car.  That brings my total to four FIVE, I found one in the wrong drawer.  This one does have some useful parts on it that will help out the others that are less complete.

post-5335-0-13615300-1541599114_thumb.jpg

I've also got this totally fucked Rolls Royce.  I have another of these in the same colour, one strange thing though, the other one I've got has a black (EDIT: I double-checked, it's actually blue-grey rather than black so maybe Matchbox just used whatever was lying around when painting bases) base while this one has a sort of Jaguar Heather Pink coloured base that appears to be factory, which seems a bit odd.

post-5335-0-62693400-1541599600_thumb.jpg

I don't mind this multiple.  The last one you saw in a previous post which was originally white with a red interior.  This is the other variation of yellow with a black interior.  They both need new windscreens.

post-5335-0-94642900-1541599174_thumb.jpg

I'm rather more excited by this Mercury Cougar.  I don't plan to do a thing to it but if/when I get another, I've got ideas for a sparkly 70s makeover and possibly even a wheel swap.

post-5335-0-05377900-1541599240_thumb.jpg

Dragon Wheels is another fun one.  These are often broken so to find this one in relatively good shape and with the stickers still mostly intact was pretty neat.  Clever, simple engineering too.  I shan't be doing anything to this one, it's great as it is.

post-5335-0-71594700-1541599357_thumb.jpg

I'm going to repaint this Ford Capri.  It was originally HOT PINK with a black bonnet, someone has since toned that down with some Oxford Blue and done a reasonable job since there's paint only where it should be.  It does now have slightly the look of those cars that had the temperature reactive paint that were, I think, from HotWheels back when Global Hypercolor was all the rage.  They always ended up stuck in a horrid in-between purpley-brown colour, or completely washed out almost-pink.

post-5335-0-89383200-1541599515_thumb.jpg

Last interesting ones (it was quite a good lot this one, and very cheap) are these complete and not-too-terrible Pontiac Firebird and SAAB Sonett III, both of which I've been after for a while.
