Found this Matchbox Taylor jumbo crane too.

This is the best condition regular wheels lesney I have ever found.

Well done, that man!   1-75 Lesney crane stuff is hard to find without half the boom snapped off....

junkyarddog, you have some good antenna. Don't reveal your sources, or we'll all on be on them! ;-)

Round here it's mainly overpriced boxed stuff or awful tat at boot fairs.

I doff my cap.

Here's the next batch lined up for drilling.  I'd actually started here, with the two Corgi Jags that you see at the back of the pic below...

post-4559-0-18112200-1540924133_thumb.jpg

And today some of these have been through the stripping bath, including the white Jag.  I have no plans about which ones will end up which colour, at least not yet.  The 59 Impala is the earlier casting, with the one-piece body; it was pink from new but I don't think I want it pink this time.  We'll see....

Lots of rubbish to go through to find anything semi decent now,

The Oxford wasn't cheap, but it was reasonable, same for the caravan.

The Matchbox crane was a bit of a bargain though ;-)

Today's £1 Lesney. Broken windows are it's main fault. Restore or sell at an instant loss. We'll see!

Model Supplies just started doing the window unit this year. Although, typically I have just put in an order dammit.

Anyway, probably added 50% to it's value with metal polish, sandpaper and photography...

Now with painted blue light. I wonder if I could chop out that broken rear window without causing further damage?

Yes, window unit cut out and live resto complete! I did add a crack to the rear window as a result, but that's karma.

If anyone wants the Ford Galaxie for £2 posted, just let me know...not a keeper in my Lesney collection. I would say it is a 68 or 69 model.

Posted

No, it's a 1966 Galaxie.  68/69 wouldn't have the stacked headlights.  The Mercury, available as sedan or station wagon and filling many of the same roles in MB's lineup, was a 68-69 though!

Posted

It was, however, still in the Matchbox catalogue for 1968, for some reason the Mercury didn't go on fire duties until the Police had thoroughly tested it....

I went to one of my favourite die-cast haunts today.   Unfortunately the stock was either stuff I already had or have previously decided I cannot afford.   Unable to leave with nothing, however, I did pay £4 for this....

It's by Guisval of Spain and looks to be a plastic copy of French Dinky 588 - itself re-created recently by Atlas.   None of these will be £4, though, I guess.  I am going to carve replacement bumper and front trims from balsa and tin-foil them.

The windscreen on the kennel truck is cracked front to back, but otherwise intact.  The bodywork on both isn't that bad and the interior from the Jeep actually fits inside the body of the kennel truck.  Also had some leftover bits of a 1980s Ford truck in my bits box, a hydraulic ram plastic portion from another broken model, and a bit of wire that was a good size for a tow hitch.  A quick mock-up with some glue and this little set up definitely has promise.

I've since found a few suppliers of parts for things like windscreens, so I'll be ordering one for this soon.  Only found it after taking the pictures. I'll probably paint the wheels too.

Not thrilled with the enamel paint I used on this one so I'll probably redo it in the future. Some of the early repaints I did I used Humbrol enamels and they have a habit of yellowing or just looking... not how I'd like.  I've got quite a few of these, they seem to always be in job lots, usually along with 8 wheel cranes and Claas combine harvesters, which I'm also not massively keen on.

Pleased with the transformation on this one.  Aside from the windscreen being the wrong type (salvaged from another car that was totally dead, and will be replaced with the correct one soon), it turned out much better than I expected.

This one was a nice find recently that I won't be doing anything to.  It's missing the tow hook, which is a bit odd since normally these are missing the windscreen and/or the folded down roof.

I prefer the earlier versions of this car.  If it was an earlier one I'd redo it since it's also one of those earlier Humbrol painted ones I did and I'm not keen on the finish.  I also want to have a go at making the wood trim on the sides more convincingly wood looking than this plain brown attempt.

I have a couple of Husky models.  They're harder to find and not really very good quality.  What they are good for is experimenting with ideas like trying to make it look like it has badly touched in paint and rusty grille.  Some of this turned out how I wanted, some didn't, overall I like it well enough that it's a keeper.  Might add more roof green at some point, and have a go at making the glass look dirty, we shall see.

I've got some others in the works too, this is just the stuff I finished since I last posted in here ages ago.

It's a pity Husky and Matchbox were not consistently scaled - that Husky camperback would look good in the Matchbox Ford....

I have to confess to snipping the odd towhook on Lesneys as a kid because they wouldn't always fit neatly in the carry case!

I've experimented with sharpies on that Cougar wagon casting,

It sorta looks like wood panels if you squint a bit.

It would need to be done by someone with more artistic talent that what I possess though.

Matchbox did get it nice on the Vista cruiser though.

The green Jeep interior is about as common as shit from a toothed rocking hen.

Get another one and do a proper resto with interior swappage.

That's my other Jeep, it's in surprisingly good shape.  The green interior I used for the salvage job was missing the steering wheel and had some other minor damage so was far from perfect and not really suitable for an interior swap other than the one I did.

Actually, since you're here, can you clear up something for me on wheels?  I've got some old Lesneys with silver wheels and I have conflicting information as to whether they are a short run of re-released cars using the original moulds or just a normal option that was offered, like the short-lived chrome hub wheels with separate tyres.

Do you mean the five Lesney Matchbox which were re-cast during their 40th anniversary with silver wheels  both in a boxed set and individually in blisters with mocked up boxes.    Like these...
