Shite in Miniature II

^^^Wow... that is beautiful. Agreed, the original does have a certain aura absent from the Atlas version... but still. The repro is still sensual...

Gnng...

I'm supposed to be clearing diecast, not buying more.

But just look at that rear door... open all by itself...

Interesting to see how much cruder the plastic mouldings are on the Atlas. The original really does have a certain something about it. Shame they picked they didn't replicate that colour, which really suits it, too.

Still, I've made an offer on one on eBay as it looks like yours has already been snaffled. Must stop looking at this thread.

I fell in love with Dinky Ford Galaxies as a direct result of seeing a brace like those in Junkman's pics above, in Gardiner & O'Neill's "Collector's All-Colour Guide to Toy Cars" when I was maybe 8 or 9.

I agree that they do look better in light colours - but as the metallic beige one was annoyingly stuck in the page fold, the maroon one was the object that I lusted after.

I never thought I'd ever own one.

Yes, me too, exactly!

I must get another copy of that book. I was always fascinated by the French and Spanish Dinkys that I had never seen. That is my entire knowledge of old toy cars (plus the 'Mint & Boxed' catalogue from 1989 with hundreds of Spot-On variations...)

I'd have an interest in these Golfs if you would be willing to post them to the ROI?

Also I don't do PayPal so would 5a postal order or cash sent to you be acceptable?

Thanks.

Every time I see a galaxie I think of the invaders TV series.

I have this book and felt exactly the same when I first got it for Christmas whrn I was about 11. French and Spanish Dinkies still have a wonderful element of unattainability about them.

Yes, Ford Rimini Blue, which may divide opinion. But, I can't justify a new can of paint for every model!

Back to the box of wrecks, this certainly has patina! Norn Iron made spot-on...

I've said this before, but that Spot-On Minor casting is lovely, so much better than more recent attempts to capture the car.    That Karrier float needs some Pepsi-Cola decals!

Well, Coca Cola ones on their way instead from Steve Flowers! New axles purchased separately. Just debating about getting new wheels too!

One more spot on in the box...

That would make a corking restoration!

The Spot-On minor is a cracking capture of the original that few have come close to since.

I saw that Wayne school bus yesterday at an antique fair.   Nowhere near as nice as yours - seller wanted £65.  I was tempted until I saw the price!    Look at the bloody size of it next to the Luxury Coach, too!

I popped home at lunchtime and my box from Datsuncog was there... Not enough time to rip it open though! Much excitement for home time now.

^^^ As a bit of backstory, this sad little Karrier turned up in a plastic bag of old cars at a school jumble sale c.1992 that I was delighted to snap up for £notverymuch.

Most of them were fairly wrecked - hell, a lot of the ratty restoration jobs I'm looking rid of came from that bag. After having them on the racks of shelves in my bedroom along with hundreds of other models, they all got swept into boxes and punted up to the attic when I suddenly became very self-conscious that friends from school were looking at me a bit funny, since my walls were lined with old toys rather than Faith No More and Sepultura posters...

So it's with real pleasure I'm watching this come back to life from a chipped and scratched wreck to something actually very lovely again!

I could not be more pleased with my little haul from DC! Burned some flexi to open my parcel, I mean walk the dog and enjoy the sunshine.

The V50 will go into the diorama of Cars I Have Owned (different colour and spec but I'm not too bothered about that), I wanted the Saab because my dad had one (before I was born) and speaks very highly of it, and I just liked the look of the others. One day they will add colour to a model railway layout... One day.75abbc6f548e28dca3bedb0fd07a1f9a.jpg

Heh, awesome! Glad they made it over to you safely!

I'm just remembering that the Capri, E36 and 206 were all bought while I was working for Inkfish in central Brighton back in 2005, so it's kinda fitting that they've ended up just down the road again...

Thanks, that just looks like scrap then, as the other half has long since disappeared.

Another that needs glass, paint, decals and tyres. So another tenner or 'move it on'...

Just bought this, despite its Japanese origins all the way from far-flung Northampton.

Lovely model, but the box is really the icing on the cake. Look at that quality* translation.

Haha, that box blurb is better than a 1960s Honda Cub handbook, brilliant.
