Hubba Hubba!

Ive not had that many cars so I havent had a problem getting models of them, except for the Megane. I have a saloon in 1/43 and 2 Cabriolets, one is a facelift in 1/43 by UH and the other is a 1/18 prefacelift by Anson. However hatchbacks are expensive and the facelifts are extremely hard to find. Norev did one but the only example I can find that matches mine is by a company called Hoppa and its virtually unobtainable.

Posted

Again I am buying models for cars I have owned, I could not find a MK1 except rally car when I had the Octavia but I have now settled for a red one although the car was white.

1/43 Not sure about make box is marked Skoda with model history on the ends. What does Kaden s.r.o. NOVY HRADEK mean on the box marked Czech Republic?

All the way from Australia as the only one in black I could find.

Neo did 1:43 XM estates a couple of years back. Available in two or three different colours too.

So they did. I am probably being a massive cheapskate but they all seem to be about £50. Is that the going rate for a model of this scale?

Posted

Kaden was the Czech Republic based toy manufacturer who had long links with Skoda, I have their very crude 1/43 scale Felicia hatch, they did the mk1 Octy in hatch and estate form and rally guise

No, but it's the going rate of a Neo model of this scale.

No, but it's the going rate of a Neo model of this scale.

Fair enough, I may have to bite the bullet and order myself one then. It's not like it's going to get any cheaper I imagine.

Resin models are much more expensive to produce and have often production runs of around 100 too

Not sure if I've moaned about this already...

If the Carina II (Corona rest of World) T171 was such a massive success.... How come I cannot find a scale model/ any reference to one?

The Corolla OTOH....

I made a fairly decent 1/28 ish scale Montego entirely from plasticard once. I traced the side profile from a brochure, transferred it to the plasticard and worked from there.

I used it for a Uni project about four years later.

Probably about as durable as the real thing. My neighbour used to have one, an 88 F plater in a light metallic blue, it went rotten round the sunroof, so he patched it up with gaffer tape, it just ended up like a poultice once the headlining got wet.

Bburago have brought out a shite recovery truck with working slide bed in 1/43 scale, based on the recent Renner Master, not available in the UK yet, but does come with a car on the back, so far seen shots of a Bini, Fiat 500 and VW Polo on the back. Paging Mr Lobster to the beige minishite phone

After me saying that hatchback Meganes went for silly money on ebay, I won this one for a tenner. Same colour as mine too. Unfortunately its a prefacelift however, in light of my recent luck CLOSE ENOUGH.

Had I known I'm carrying owls to Athens, I'd opted for a more exotic gift, like a black mamba, or similar.

Anyway, last Sunday was spent with fellow Miniature Shite collector Eddyramrod at some provincial toy fair.

Contrary to him I only spent two quids on stuff not worth mentioning.

Since we are roughly the same generation (for the record, HE is older than me!), we became a bit sentimental while we predominantly browsed said fair on our hands and knees - like way back when when we were toddlers - to rummage the bargain bins kept underneath the tables.

We drooled over beaten up rubbish Majorettes and broken, half arsed Regular Wheels Matchboxes and reminiscended over our happy childhoodhood, way back then when everything was nicer and better and there was snow in Winter and permasun in Summer.

In the end we agreed that we should dig up two things and present them here

- the stuff we still have from said childhood

and much more hilariously

- the shite we accumulated since then without even collecting it.

You know how it goes.

I started collecting in earnest about 40 years ago.

In four decades, I gathered a lot of chod that isn't anywhere near the stuff I actually collect. It's the sediment of the collection. Stuff that was hoovered up no reason whatsoever. Some just because it is cool, some on a whim, some because it felt like a good idea at the time, some because you didn't want to leave a shop without a purchase out of courtesy, or because the shopkeeperess was a sweet readhead with green eyes and freckles. I bet you've all been there.

This, and the survivors of my childhood, will thus fill my next few posts, whether you like it or not.

Most of it is kept in this Aldi tower of drawers down in the Junkdungeon:

Note the unboxed Italeri '33 Rita Hayworth V16 Caddy kit on top, which is entirely unrelated to what is coming.

It's a victim of a burst water pipe 25 years ago in a former Junkdungeon and a totally different story.

I just start with the top three drawers to make it easy for me.

They contain Hotwheels. I'm not a Hotwheels collector, but there are almost 200 of them.

I bought most of them at a supermarket in Belgium during the 90s just because I thought they were cool

and they only cost 20 Belgian Francs a toss at the time.

37556104016_6746c8ed12_z.jpg

Among them is this hardy survivor from my childhood, which would actually be valuable if it were mint:

If shit were valuable, I'd be born without an arsehole, though.

However, there is another one, which is almost mint:

There is also this gem, which is just freezing cool:

37556101936_554a0b5c71_b.jpg

And then there are these lorries, which I think I bought in Dublin in the early Noughties on the rare occasions when shops were actually open:

Needless to say that a sizeable amount of these Hotwheels ended up with Junkdaughter #2 this evening while I had them spread out on the kitchen table.

She was all over them and couldn't believe that her boring father has such cool stuff tucked away.

The next three drawers contain the following shite.

Corgi Cadbury's Egg:

Four Chinese Tron style motorcycles:

Three Revell Hotrods I picked up in America:

A Guiloy lorry I have no idea where and when I got:

Some Ertl diecast figurines I bought at Evers Toy Shop in the Eighties:

A Matchbox Ambulance from my adulthood:

A Matchbox London bus I bought in that London when I was a kid:

37574320342_b75aec20d6_b.jpg

A Matchbox Hoveringham Foden I got for Christmas when I was a toddler.

I can't believe how good it is considering what it went through.

37574318902_f9542f0b06_b.jpg

A batch of Bigfoots I bought in that Trumpland. They have a very good friction drive and you wouldn't believe

how well they negotiate bedsheet mountains once they are in motion.

37557671886_7bc890077f_b.jpg

RW Modelle Ziss NAG and 1909 Opel Doktorwagen. Christmas gifts from my Parents when I was little.

37557670796_4cba80326d_b.jpg

Some boxed Matchboxes from my childhood. Yes, I put them back in their boxes when I was finished playing with them, because nerd.

37574315082_800c6a7858_b.jpg

I unpacked them just for you ugly lot.

Yes all right, now I'm totally ashamed that I haven't posted my purchases yet.

In other news: THANK YOU JM!  Eclectic and entertaining all in one go!  I can see I'm going to have to spend a chunk of this afternoon upstairs with my camera....

I'm about to post some photos taken this afternoon.  This may take a while, please be patient.

Looking forward to it Eddy!     In the meantime here is my one drawer of undisplayed shite.....I have several blanket boxes full of HW 90s rubbish but they are in the loft hoping that one of the two grandsons grows up to appreciate metalflake Jaguars and Corvettes.

The majority of these are childhood remnants, it was great having the carry cases but it did mean that the boxes got lobbed in the bin, doh!

Pretty much the whole 1-75 range of 1968/9 is there with a few interlopers from Corgi Juniors / Rockets etc.

Well... I thought I'd better show you what I got at the toyfair, to start with.

Five cars from the James Bond partwork series, a fiver each; all models I've been chasing on ebay for ages.  Oh and a couple of my rummage-box purchases.

post-4559-0-70101800-1507660324_thumb.jpg

The Crown Vic does have a case, I've just unpacked it for display.  I do that a lot.

I bought a load of other stuff too...

post-4559-0-72444200-1507660450_thumb.jpg

These two 1960s Dinky Toys were part of the haul, missing their tyres but that's no big hardship.  More important was that the Triumph has the boot and bonnet attached!  It was issued in this colour combination as part of a set with a glider in a trailer, I had the set when it was new but you can imagine how it suffered.  The standard-issue solo car, which I also had, was green with a white roof.  The Capri has been painted by a previous owner so I may decide to repaint it again.

Something that emerged in conversation was that I have what I call my pending-projects box.

post-4559-0-80544000-1507660834_thumb.jpg

I may have to get hold of a bigger box!  Or perhaps I should just get on and do some of them.

Breaking this up into a series seems to be the way to go, so enjoy these, I'll be back in a bit with more.

Episode 2, where we get a look at the contents of the PP box, laid out.  We'll start with the larger-scale models.

As you can see, many of these have already been painted at least once.  Let's have a look at the smaller-scale contents now.

post-4559-0-57645200-1507662657_thumb.jpg

Again, plenty of Humbrol there, but that's what happens.

More to come.  I hate having to use this laptop for my photos, it's so slow when I'm posting.

So here are some views of my room, starting with the two cabinets I picked up from a local Facebook group over the winter, after they were spotted by MrsR.

post-4559-0-66896100-1507663048_thumb.jpg

As you can see, I've populated them a bit.  The seller threw in a fire engine that he had littering up the room...

post-4559-0-63795900-1507663258_thumb.jpg

Fire engines are a bit of a recurring theme in my collection, as are ambulances and police vehicles.  American cars feature very strongly.  Vans and trucks also feature, as they comprise most of my career.  Here's a couple of elderly Dinky trucks I found in a charity shop a couple of years ago...

post-4559-0-16236200-1507663524_thumb.jpg

I bought them just as you see them here: almost matching, with a good 95% of their paint intact and all their tyres.

Coming up: some younger Corgis.
