Well after the 5 Porsche Project the next car to be decalled is this.

DSCF2464.thumb.JPG.a98b076aeddf51d96cb32c6cb5b0c5cc.JPG

The Peugeot 205 T16 as driven to victory by Timo Salonen and Seppo Harjanne on the 1985 Rallye de Portugal.

Some pictures in the box.

DSCF2466.thumb.JPG.2f164554cc6964aac1b94296267427a5.JPG

Lots of decals for various Rallies, so they'll be spares left over.

DSCF2467.thumb.JPG.a7a65912cab928191396f5c3c5e1f909.JPG

These are the ones I will be using.

DSCF2468.thumb.JPG.10274d435cb4335ac1a2b456627f1d8d.JPG

There's also a bag of parts...

DSCF2469.thumb.JPG.cbfed9c336e4788ff3f8f8f9d1bfbc10.JPG

that includes wipers, spot lamps, roll cage and rolled up rear mud flaps.

DSCF2473.thumb.JPG.da301bb7e94d72f65095f401d1d05a88.JPG

Those mud flaps can be seen here.

2051985portugal(1).jpg.b517d50bbb4e4ff81dfcdf3f6fb83221.jpg

First job was to pull the car apart to fit the roll cage.

DSCF2470.thumb.JPG.5aff7c01207af73d0278358433a72d67.JPG

I will not be detailing the inside as ones that came from the factory with the decals done just had plain white figures and that iffy chrome engine.

DSCF2472.thumb.JPG.9b8729bcdaca3e0813c05a49cf560586.JPG

The rear spoiler was loose so the widows were popped out...

DSCF2474.thumb.JPG.8d650f3805c512dc7b3777a52d3542db.JPG

and a small blob of superglue gel was placed on the inside to hold it.

DSCF2475.thumb.JPG.3fcbf7b5639473c6c63611882bfbccaf.JPG

I also noticed the cast in rear view mirror on the glass casting. It looks better than something just cast into the front screen.

DSCF2477.thumb.JPG.b167a88aecf33f4860893db0d398d33b.JPG

That's the roll cage done, but I'll be leaving the glue to go off as I do not want to risk any clouding of teh windows being caused by the vapour.

Not very miniature. Might be a while before it's finished...

Nearly finished. Some impressive bits, some bits that really should be better for the price, and a LOT of wasted plastic packaging...

I've just drilled apart a Corgi Mini Marcos that arrived recently.  I'm repainting it as a present for someone.  Now... I thought I had four spare wheels for it; it arrived with none but that didn't matter.  Unfortunately it does, because I seem to have only three.  Anybody got a spare one please?  Doesn't need to have a tyre, and if it's been painted in the past I won't mind, I can soon strip/paint it myself as needed.

Entertainer (and Smyths apparently) have this set in - but the #1 911 was gone - if found in black with #0 it's the chase car too

Got a few moving parts but the mix I saw elsewhere recently

This is Bournemouth but I've seen them on FB popping up all over, even in Asda

Talking of which, it was the usual disaster area

Those little CRT screens look fantastic.

If only they worked, like that digital Lego brick screen that somebody made.

Yes please.

I've seen builds for working screens playing video, and proper voice synthesizers, and so forth. They should be standard given the cost of these kits 😂

This arrived today, love the rear plate and the GB badge, assuming these came with the option of different plates.

They may come from an accessory sheet. Corgi used to do them in the 1960s with tax discs, number plates and country plates.

The 205 T16 has turned out to be quite simple.

After letting the glue go off the car was soon back in one piece and the graphics decals were started on the left side and bonnet.

DSCF2479.thumb.JPG.c0db0425b5c92e6b2235ef69f3820ec4.JPG

A bit more left side work.

DSCF2480.thumb.JPG.e083f6bb6932fec90723029e62949363.JPG

Then the rear.

DSCF2481.thumb.JPG.906fa32e4bc67d24f5704d3288c2a243.JPG

Then the right. After these were done I left the car to dry for a bit.

DSCF2482.thumb.JPG.9021ccf017c65bc46da0dc2530700529.JPG

Front end.

Left side details.

DSCF2484.thumb.JPG.120e12c94cc3187eff6b3fc3ceba45f3.JPG

Front end details. When doing these i had noticed that I had made an error. I had put the large Michelin decals on the rear as they were next to the rear number plate on the sheet. By the time I had noticed it was too late and those decals were not going to come off again.

Right side details.

DSCF2487.thumb.JPG.766c05081691bff59cdbf6f08d233373.JPG

Finished. I have not attached the accessories as this is how they came from the factory if teh decals had been applied.

DSCF2488.thumb.JPG.8fc8eab0b4b78bd8af0bf61c16691837.JPG

If I was keep the model I would probably do a bit of superdetailing like giving the grilles a bit of a thing black wash.

They did, I had loads.  Guess what I found in one of my boxes last year?  An original Corgi envelope filled with exactly these!

Vanguards old and new(er).

I dug this Vanguards out of a box the other day...

DSCF2450.thumb.JPG.1db39084329dec69fbc962e7d35d92c9.JPG

and thought, "that's odd, it has a number ending in a 0". These are usually the first colour way for a model, but the Consul Capri was first issued in the Lledo days in the sleeved card box, why has this got a 0 at the end.

It looks like Corgi just re-issued the turquoise and white car during their Collection period. The newer version is part of The Ford Collection. One of teh many Corgi attempts to inject life into the Vanguards range. At the time there were also Vauxhall, BMC, Rootes, MG Rover and Police Collections.

Here's the original Lledo issue, just with a slightly different number VA34000, as opposed to VA03400.

DSCF5526.thumb.JPG.461c3bed2f358a5972f28ddaafb7d0e1.JPG

There are a few alterations. The Corgi issue has the mirrors attached and jewel headlamps.

DSCF2446.thumb.JPG.5711bb569278f91a4b4ffd52a99d8f00.JPG

Plastic headlamps on the Lledo and the mirrors came in the box.

DSCF5524.thumb.JPG.d61a8d39839c989346f7bd4096e5e2f5.JPG

Also the white walls give the car a more 1950s look and the number plates are in a different font with white letters.

DSCF2448.thumb.JPG.97ffc293fb634e57e65076dbe3c37032.JPG

The Lledo have silver letters on the plates.

Still waiting on the styrene tube I ordered for the AEC fuel tank, so while I’m waiting…

Did some more on the F150 utility truck.
Dummy doors added, door latches, fuel filler cap, rear low tailgate, tail lights all on. Just the wheel arches to finish.

IMG_3607.thumb.jpeg.f5ab92e6ea2eae0f050b86c7362e1ffd.jpeg

IMG_3608.thumb.jpeg.09090517851c0974cfccbb843e9f612f.jpeg

IMG_3617.thumb.jpeg.5f8abca08e298d24cdd0deb6276247f6.jpeg

Most of these were white, basic trucks bought en mass by companies as cheaply as possible so I’ll probably spray it white after I’m done building it. Just pick out some details here and there in other colours.
The interior though I’ve done in tan (Humbrol desert yellow) just to give something on it a bit of colour.

IMG_3609.thumb.jpeg.4e30719b00e967b06042a05910c10cba.jpeg

Also started the next truck project.

The D series. I took the cab off the old Dinky chassis and stripped the paint off ready, but something was annoying me about the Dinky cab. Looking at it, then photos of real ones, it looks like Dinky made the cab front panel too far forward of the base of the windscreen. It left a big shelf between the screen and front panel.

IMG_3595.thumb.jpeg.01d7dfe0936573eb4e02d90982516cea.jpeg

Would it matter? Really!?
It annoyed me sufficiently so I started fixing it by making a mess of it!
Razor saw deployed.

IMG_3611.thumb.jpeg.9828d4a38ea611c6e1bff9af51502437.jpeg

Then after ages filing and sanding metal away from both pieces…

IMG_3616.thumb.jpeg.49f91a5ee2c198a53df66b5266993134.jpeg

IMG_3614.thumb.jpeg.db1e2085071567260138a84f40b4de66.jpeg

Thats better!
I could probably have gone further, but the strip under the screen was getting very thin so I decided that’d be good enough. It’s been glued back together now and I’ll leave it overnight to cure, then reinforce the back of the joint with chemical metal putty. Then a bit of filler on the outside to round the corners off nicely.
Then it’s getting a new modern chassis and cement mixer body!

There's been work, because the weather has been mild...

100_0761.thumb.JPG.6a2c1bcc9752ef8530cc2d26abd149fb.JPG

This is the Corgi Transit AA speclift I got the other day, with no wheels or even axles.  But, the paint is quite a bit better than the one I already have, so I thought I'd put some (slightly) more realistic wheels on it.  I have some sets from cheapie no-name 1/64 lorries, which fit quite well... except for fouling the chassis.  So I got out my not-a-Dremel and trimmed the chassis to bring the wheels to a better position.  It now has twins on the rear!  I'll show it again when it's finished.

Many of these came in the same batch and are now drilled...

100_0762.thumb.JPG.860b016b19143db0c820c52cbc0d115b.JPG

...and into the cosmic soda...

100_0765.thumb.JPG.fcadbfa381fb56f6a9ba522035a61193.JPG

...and finally the rinse bucket.  They can stay there overnight.

From memory the dash was black in mine with black rubber mat ( exmilatry 83 model) black door panel , off white roof panel B pillars.

Weird part was getting to the co-op, and after rather a lot of rummaging under the desk, she emerged with two parcels. Scanned my barcode and gave me the larger one which contained the cars above.

After a bit of head scratching I remembered a debacle from November where Yodel decided to deliver to a different Co-op in another town, and refused to resolve the matter. Somehow or other it's ended up in the right place, even though I've been refunded and I thought the seller had his car back. So now I have a free, if somewhat battered, Matchbox Chevy Nova

Premiums, yeah... I can safely assert here and now that there isn't one model in that selection that I'll ever be able to afford.  But then, I do try to avoid buying new, however lush they may be (and those are!).

These are going to be bought by "collectors" (or more likely scalpers) and will never be played with; will never see the inside of a 5-for-a-quid rummage box; will never be Humbrolled by enthusiastic seven-year-old hands.  Like toys used to be!

I would be delighted to find my predictions proved wrong but honestly, can any of you see it happening?

Exactly.

Oh and by the way, MrsR has instructed me to remind you all that under no* circumstances are you to send me any more boxes of resto-project models, or as she calls them, scrap.  So please, take note* of her wishes and do not* ever send me anything else, no matter how much I may admire it.

(And please DO take careful note of the punctuation in that message!)

About three or four years back, my local Tesco Extra began stocking the premium Hot Wheels Car Culture range (£7 then; generally £9 now).

Whenever I was in looking through the mainline tubs, doing my 'rat going through a bin' routine (to quote MrsDC), oftentimes I'd find these premiums just slung in with the regular HW releases.

I'm quite sure that more than a couple of these ended up going through the checkout because a kid had picked one out of the blue tub, and a distracted parent mistakenly thought it was just a little £1.50 car based on the shelf-edge label - and would they even realise the price difference at the time, amidst a trolleyful of groceries?

I also encountered a number of torn-open empty boxes from these premiums stuffed in behind the other toys on the shelves - and maybe this is why Tesco don't seem to stock them anymore; too much theft.

Which is all to say, one way or another there are probably a fair few of these Premiums lying chipped at the bottom of a toybox within a mile radius of where I'm sitting right now! So, although I haven't found any in a rummage box yet, I'm still hopeful...

I’ve never found any premiums, Hot Wheels or Matchbox, in second hand cheapo rummage boxes or job lots. But I have found a few recent releases from the mainline ranges. I think the newest was one of the Hot Wheels red Sierra’s. Pretty sure one of you lot had that one off me.
They probably will turn up eventually though, once the kids start getting a bit older and their old toy cars start getting sent to boot sales and charity shops.

I just received an order from that wonderful French gentleman that sells well priced diecasts, and gets me in trouble at home for doing so!
But, within this order I made a wild card purchase because it was keenly priced. A type of car I wouldn’t normally be much bothered with being much more interested in bigger stuff. But, it’s very cool non the less!

😂

Even in 1:43 scale it’s absolutely tiny!
I think it’s from one of the South American collections, which had me wondering who in their right mind would buy one of those to use on the roads over there in real life!? I can’t imagine they lasted long (or their owners lasting long either!) it’s carnage on the road in countries like that but in something this small you’ve got absolutely no chance.
