Most of the time is taken by the glue drying!

I think you're supposed to use the proper cement for that plastic - I use superglue but the cement actually fuses the plastic together and sets almost instantly

Majorette VW Golf MK3, in slightly chipped but otherwise not bad condition.

I speculatively grabbed this in case @Spottedlaurel might fancy it - but if not, expressions of interest will be entertained, for the £1 it cost me!

Yes please! Similar condition to most of my Majorettes, and it'll sit nicely with the other '90s ones that I have. Thanks.

For the styrene I use poly cement, which is more or less the same as that plastic weld stuff. Mine just doesn’t cure immediately though, it stays soft for a while which is handy for repositioning things but those tight curves were a pain. Once cured it’s plenty strong enough though.

Ive done it before using a glue meant for bonding pvc pipes and gutters which is insanely strong, but it might melt this thin stuff!
Im not sure what I’ll use for bonding the plastic bit to the metal cab though.

Ringers, the numbers were still showing as VW Caravelles on the day of the funeral.

Just checked and they still are ! It seems JLR jumped in with an opportunistic product placement for the funeral knowing millions would see them, the Palace just stuck the plates on for the day and the Rangies went back afterwards, any Range Rovers you see being used by Royals since are not that colour.

Is that right though?

I read that three L460 were ordered specifically in Royal tradition colour 'black-over-claret' which is not on the JLR list.  The Royal Crest was mounted on all three roofs and they were assigned MYT1, MYT2, MYT3 (the Mighty-One plate set ordered for the Queen by Phillip as one of his jokes).  Could someone pop over to the Royal Mews and do an audit?  They would be in the line of State Royal Review Vehicles, not the line of Semi-State Cars used by lesser Royals

Of the two coachbuilt Mulliner Bentleys ordered for the Golden Jubillee, one is with Charles and the other is now with Anne.

Super glue? Even on styrene to styrene that's what I mostly use.

Will it be strong enough?

I suppose I could add some strips over the joint inside to help strengthen it.
Was toying with the idea of impact adhesive but it might melt the plastic! Maybe I’m just overthinking it tbh!?

I would have a use for a scrap Mini Marcos too; either wheel type, it won't matter.

I may have spare Golden Jacks one without wheels, but not 100% sure I'll have to check.

@danthecapriman Those partwork lorries are gorgeous! Especially the Peterbilt. The Spaniards are lucky buggers.

There’s a few series of them, the Volvo F88 rigid box truck is from some French series I think. Doesn’t seem to be magazine related.

The Spanish partwork come with mags though, and the collection is huge. The majority are of Spanish made trucks, Pegaso, Spanish Dodge etc, but there’s a good few French trucks (Renault & Berliet) and a handful of British ones too which are often the Brits built in Spain to avoid import duties.
Ebro = Ford Thames
Sava = BMC/Leyland
They take a bit of hunting down but they’re fantastic models. I’ve got a couple of others on the way so once here I’ll post em up!

Sounding like a broken record player here but… why can’t we have something like this for stuff you’d get on British roads…

Corgi did loads of stuff in their Heavy Haulage and Hauliers of Renown ranges. For those with deeper pockets Tekno did loads of stuff which are getting very pricey on the second hand market.

These days Hornby would rather sell trains to a diminishing market of old duffers, twenty-seventy-million versions of the same 007 car or just a load of diecast Fords. The Corgi range of models has shrunk and shrunk over the last 10 years as they concentrate on just selling stuff that they think will sell again and again.

Just look at the IXO range to see what Corgi a turned their back on by just making Fords. Also IXO models are now cheaper than Vanguards.

IXO MODELS

All true! Sadly.

Imagine what an AEC Ergomatic or Leyland version would look like in 1:43 built by IXO or similar, to the same standard as the truck I posted in the previous page. It’d look absolutely stunning. It’d also appeal to diecast vehicle collectors, O gauge railway modellers and anyone else who remembers them or drove them.
They were British street furniture for decades, with an endless variety of colours and livery’s available. Box truck, tipper, flatbed, artic… etc etc.

Ive cried about this before on here though! All those lovely cars from IXO or derivatives for partwork collections, and the majority are not easily had over here.

Tbh, I think I actually prefer IXO to Vanguard’s, even ignoring the diversity of the ranges (or not so much for Vanguard’s!)

So, there were a couple of small purchases made today:

IMG_20240202_1122322.thumb.jpg.2c18e47a07c3ec9131944d10b557e631.jpg

The Saab floppytop was picked up for @Split_Pin, and seems to have never been out of the box before.

IMG_20240202_1122412.thumb.jpg.9e48113a791390f79ccc2ff9ff29e4ca.jpg

It's really quite nicely done.

I'd expected a screw to be holding the model to the base, but no:

IMG_20240202_1122512.thumb.jpg.77b6ee27f46d272acd994d08881c3bde.jpg

I last saw these little metal clips, which hook round the axles, on a Herpa Trabant.

Not many clues about the maker, but I'll take it on trust that it's a New Ray!

IMG_20240202_1123262.thumb.jpg.6f47abbdcff969302ea075eb0e2fe907.jpg

Sadly, the website 'saabexpressions.com' seems to no longer be with us.

Will pop that in with your other items, dude!

I also thought this was a reasonably appealing little thing...

IMG_20240202_1125172.thumb.jpg.f2ed604faa40808aabedd27f6676158b.jpg

I speculatively grabbed this in case @Spottedlaurel might fancy it - but if not, expressions of interest will be entertained, for the £1 it cost me!

And then, I got this for myself...

IMG_20240202_1124322.thumb.jpg.a4dca26536ac070b16af8a86cd05dcd5.jpg

Seemingly, I'm far from immune to all the Ergomadness from the past few days...

IMG_20240202_1124562.thumb.jpg.1f808362d7885a40108e9b8461d5324a.jpg

I've seen the EFE Leyland Ergo before in rigid tanker format, but as an articulated box van - no, seems to be a new one on me.

Even though it dates as far back as 1997, apparently, when I ought to have been pretty au fait with the full EFE catalogue and release schedule, as there were no end of middle-aged sad-acts quizzing me on it every Saturday in the shop.

And now I'm the middle-aged sad-act.

Surprise!

Didn't see that coming.

IMG_20240202_1124452.thumb.jpg.b4e76ad617d5fe3f873f0f815c564f7b.jpg

But I do quite like this, despite the assorted chips it's suffered while stuffed in the suitcase.

Reminds me of the thrill* of visiting my first Tesco, in Windsor c.1991, when I believe they were still using that logo (or something very similar).

Some online efforts to identify this model seem to call it a Leyland Beaver, but my tired old eyes can just about make out the word 'Buffalo' on the grille just above the nearside headlight, so... I dunno.

It needs a good scrub, as it's quite dusty too.

In fact... MrsDC's out with her Yarn Harpies tonight, so it could be an ideal opportunity for some terrible films, some beer and a tub of warm soapy water...

* No, really. There were no branches of Tesco in NI until about 1998 or so, and it felt so glam compared to our local Stewarts and Crazy Prices stores (which were pretty much on a par with Netto)

That Ergomatic is simply lovely.

I’ve seen that on eBay. Really nice looking but wrong scale.

I wonder if someone (more intelligent than me!) could 3D print a 1:43 cab? I’ve no idea how all that works tbh but someone must be able to?

In 3D printing, size shouldn't matter.  If you want a 3D object, you could scale it up or down and print at exactly the size you need. If you have a printer and buy the file (.ma .mb .obj .mtl .stl .fbx etc) you should have total control over the scale of what you produce (limited to the printer ability).  Otherwise, if print shops don't offer the scale, just ask them to do a one-off

That is my understanding, but I must admit to not having done any printing myself

I’m not very computer literate tbh so that doesn’t really make much sense to me!😆

Dont you have to do a computer generated model of it then tell the printer to print in whatever size?
I don’t know of anyone who could do any of that though!
