Heh, they generally seem to show up locally, eventually.

The scarcity of Mattel stuff appears to be more of a distribution issue than a genuine rarity thing. Ultimately the cases filter through, and there's usually enough for everyone in the end.

That said, I've still not seen a single RS2000 anywhere here...

Even I've stopped picking those up after opening something like 12 identical boxes of long cards in Entertainer a few weeks ago. There were loads.

If I find any more I'll send one over to you.

I thought they can't have done and it was kicking me in the OCD region!

So.  The Commer Walk-Thru was produced  1961 to 1976

15312603048_43f3f87820_c.jpg.46cb1b3af53f50488398079b1880a20e.jpg

From then it was revised with Dodge badging to 1980

s-l1600.thumb.jpg.adffb41ca8eec3c2eb1879fd800fff18.jpg

The British Telecom rebrand and logos did not exist until 1980.

But the EFSI casting clearly has COMMER badge on the rear.  But none on the front.

Which means....   to cure the OCD all it needs its Commer badge rubbing out and I will have to tell myself that BT bought at least one run-out model cheap.

But all the vans on the fleet would have been rebranded. The yellow colour was introduced in 1968, replacing the old dark green, so a Telecom Commer Step-Thru would be possible.

I appear to have joined a BookFace group dedicated to the BT Vanning.

Will see what photos can be found, if any

Possibly US-only releases? I don't think that sort of competition tractor pulling is so much of a thing in the UK (or wasn't in the late 80's anyway).

It had an arena entrance, grandstand, crush cars, a pulling sled...

You can even get a FULL PULL   (don't Google that)

Shocker.

BIG TESCO has the singles bins back!  Jaw hit floor.

Nothing notable left though. Unless you want a Scrub Daddy, which was in there

I'm generally pretty uninterested in this sort of stuff, and that's a great example of why. If that was a standard-looking Alpine White Challenger I'd be beating a path to my nearest retailler to buy probably several examples, but that's just.... meh. Why invent a crappy colour scheme for a car when you'd have a huge captive market for a standard-looking version? That's probably my (secret) favourite car of all time and I just can't get excited about that toy at all. Shame.

Never seen much diecast to catch my eye in B&M before - usually just cases of Hot Wheels from years and years ago.

But I might wander over tomorrow lunchtime and see what's what... I remember Poundland stocking a load of Flying Customs a good few years back, and they were worth having.

(Of course I don't have them now!)

Do we have a full list or catalogue scans of the 'baby' monster truck versions?

Will have to research it a bit, but in meantime can only dig out this lot, a more recent effort and AN IMPOSTOR.  The Sheriff Chevrolet Blazer and Ford Baja Bouncer have had since I was in small trousers.   Surprising survivors...

IMG_20230302_233732.thumb.jpg.fdcc85f4ce10d38e14f831624ee22286.jpg

For the Vans, just this lot loose but a good few more still sealed in their packaging, for my sins.

Do have a catalogue page on those somewhere, which is how I got in this mess

I doubt many young lads of under 15 years old would know about Vanishing Point (or be allowed to see it!)

That green is the ~41st colour-way for that casting over 17 years so it must be a good seller to keep on the line.  Of those, it has been released as these, which might be more up your street (and mine to be fair) :

Challenger_AGENTAIR_7.webp.24fd241d46323b9a55cb2c6c3d9691bb.webpChallenger_AGENTAIR_8.webp.40a635b60346502e25698825bd09a8d8.webpChallenger_AGENTAIR_5.webp.a0f03f3afa0d79a15d97c86b15251e31.webp

Otherwise there is always this 're-release' in the Matchbox range in recent years.  All it needs is a touch of extra detailing.  But it's never going to be perfect at this scale

For authentic, I prefer to look at brand Greenlight

Even better, the 1:43 range from Greenlight

s-l1600-26.thumb.webp.7413e49b546c8040b93a4b5b1af74074.webp

It's available in the UK for less than half the price of the Arundel Bertone Mustang too:

I think I might have talked myself into one or of those!

In either 1986 or '87, I got one of these for my birthday, as a present from a school mate invited to a party at my house.

But I already had one, so a said so out loud, as common decency isn't always present when you're 5 or 6. In fairness, I clocked pretty quickly that this was a bit rude, so made an unconvincingly overdramatic 'discovery' of some different wheels or something (which there wasn't), to try and dig myself out the hole.

Funny the insignificant stuff that sticks in your mind over 35 years later!

That's another peak Matchbox for me. I didn't appreciate this casting when I was a kid as it wasn't a relevant car to me but I love it now. It just feels so solidly built. I picked one up a few years ago, maybe from here actually!

Also,  I have to say, a weekly picture of the Belfast Sunrise on a Friday morning really lifts my mood. It's like a kind of comfort blanket that the weekend is nearly here and that everything's going to be alright!

Its more important than Tat Friday itself really!
