Calling all in the North.

I'm in Hexham (Nr Newcastle,) for the weekend.

Any good markets up here with diecast available?

Preferably bus models, but happy to peruse cars.

It's my 11th Wedding Anniversary on Friday. My wife and I both have the day off, child free and a nice breakfast booked at the Ivy in Glasgow.

The reason it has got to 11 years is because my wife is fine with me visiting The Entertainer beforehand, plus other shops afterwards, to try and find the Escort.

Expand

Me and the Mrs have clocked up nearly 20. She's so lucky... my love of diecast means I'm piss-easy to buy for! Corgi have even gone back to three  batches of new  releases a year, so there's birthday, anniversary and Christmas taken care of nicely. Nowadays, I'll casually point something new out and the standard response will be "You want it, get it.  Put it away for Christmas/birthday, etc".

I don't even think she's twigged yet that me cheerfully volunteering to do the big shop every Saturday while she works is because it gives me the complete, unfettered opportunity to trawl Asda, Tesco and Morrisons hunting for new Hot Wheels and Matchbox...

And I'm allowed to have a cabinet full of these on display in the house.

Although I'm acutely aware of the fact that she knows when I croak, her and the kids will be in for a few quid. She's even asked me if I'd mind making sure they're all re-boxed beforehand.... 🤣

That is one tasty 1/43 collection. Nicely consistent too, unlike my motley rammle of 70s and 80s Bburagos, 50s and 60s 1/43s, 70s Corgis and 1/76 buses!

On the way to Hexham yesterday, I took a slight* detour to Southport to collect two auction lots, I won last week. This came as a surprise to Mrs Cookie. I didn't tell her how much I had spent.

First lot was 3 CMNL MB Citaro, that turned out to be 5! Always a good day when you get extra.

20221104_072305.thumb.jpg.6f21c77c22a982c47ee466978883c955.jpg

The second lot was 10 CMNL, 7 Darts (ALX200) and 3 Scania omni.

I bid on these lots, as each lot had a bus I wanted.

If I can hide the amount I've spent, I will keep them, otherwise the ones I don't want will be heading off to the bay of e.

Have to admit, I am quite picky with the cabinet, with it being on display, everything has to be organised. Up in the loft, the rest of the collection is as ramshackle as any other!

CMNL were peak model bus in my opinion. Finely detailed and not too expensive. It's a shame they faded away.

If you can find an Alexander Royale Bodied Olympian you'll not be disappointed!

They are still going, but new releases now range from 59.99 to 79 (ish).

Can't afford new ones, although Mrs Cookie is getting me one for Christmas.

I did pick up a Royale in local livery, earlier this year.

They are lovely models, but I only buy if cheap.

Good man, me too!  I really don't know how or where people get the money to support retail (and resale) prices.  Give me cheap, playworn, scrapyard etc every time!

Picked up these still carded Corgi Two Speed Action cars off eBay. I don't think I've had my hands on any before, seems to be a rival to the Matchbox Turbo 2 range

I couldn't help myself.

Again.

Because it's Friday, and there was a deficit of Fire Wardens, and I was lured into central Belfast with the promise of a temporary car park pass.

So you know what's coming next.

650857242_IMG_20221104_0809372.thumb.jpg.54cda441dc7401ee0d5c133c54665a5e.jpg

That's right. The dregs of last week's buses at the market...

1965958010_IMG_20221104_0809262.thumb.jpg.87b5b8ee9a73b2de8532ffdefa8c8250.jpg

Plus a few new bits and pieces, though maybe not much to hyperventilate about.

The price sign's becoming mildly tetchy.

595531303_IMG_20221104_0810222.thumb.jpg.9c200e3bbf444fcedcb20941c8fc66cc.jpg

"What's yer best price?" possibly not restricted to classified ads these days.

Unusual scale of 1/22.5 for this unopened garage accessory pack.

339867938_IMG_20221104_0810172.thumb.jpg.fe1c3c35a01546a5e07db9f0b1f964a3.jpg

Weatherproof, too.

Good to know.

Some more unboxed buses up top on the stall:

175829834_IMG_20221104_0808242.thumb.jpg.9d190fceb42c5f24b02e5fe1826a0388.jpg

Think these might be from the Corgi 'Routemasters in Exile' range.

Also, some James Last 8-tracks.

1758451602_IMG_20221104_0808282.thumb.jpg.14c3602136a90951ed2780734cf7cc27.jpg

Mmm, baby. Who wouldn't be in the mood for trumpets?

No 50p/ £1 tat box, sadly... But there were a few random loose items rattling round an old desk in-tray.

1056177284_IMG_20221104_0808492.thumb.jpg.5bd6d939a1f6e8cbee7716715d7535e5.jpg

The Weetabix Corgi Ford Cargo seems to be the same one as last week, now sans box, unfortunately.

After a while, Market Blokey got his creative juices flowing and composed a display.

1709375081_IMG_20221104_0817202.thumb.jpg.057cd4a0035778ba6aca2ee01723c91e.jpg

That's better.

Corgi Previa Mk2 was a bit scuffed and battered, boxless Days Gone were also a bit tired-looking.

Solido R4F was probably the most shiteworthy offering of the day, but I declined.

33272661_IMG_20221104_0809052.thumb.jpg.9eaa9b204663d0657cf20efb34ff31e4.jpg

270841561_IMG_20221104_0817182.thumb.jpg.4f7c566060f0612d5ea142dbfe2bc0eb.jpg

Shakycam pics also reveal a no-name Bond Aston rip-off (with non-functioning ejector hatch in the roof), New Ray BMW roadster, MB Dinky Collection Austin A40 van, plus that Matchbox promo Transit back again.

Corgi Morris J van seemed to be a Code 3 that's seen better days.

East Antrim Diecast & Collectors Club would, I suppose, have been my "home" club (if I were actually, like, sociable), and I think they put on some of the toyfairs I attended in the mid/late '90s.

Seems the club hasn't really met since 2017, though.

So, not really an awful lot of interest on the main tat stall this week... unless you like bicarb?

The Nemesis (still here reliably, and always in before me) also left empty-handed this week - so clearly there wasn't anything special that I missed.

I took a wander round the rest of the market - and the prosaically named Alan's Emporium was back again.

Looking £5 a throw for some unboxed Days Gone wearing anachronistic liveries and discount-store grade 'Classic Cars', given pride of place in the middle of the stall:

I think I used to have that yellow Mercedes roadster - but even so, it's a nope from me.

50p tray was there, though.

274346953_IMG_20221104_0822202.thumb.jpg.dc06f1f6450c1271412ecbcd68bbe1f4.jpg

Not much to set the heart a-racing, though.

Lesney Rolamatics Piston Popper Mustang with shoogly wheels and a nail polish repaint was about the height of the excitement.

73359753_IMG_20221104_0823052.thumb.jpg.cce925a0b924bf89fd87c40a8ad7351c.jpg

Though what appears to be a half-arsed stab at an EH generation Civic was, at least, a bit out of the ordinary.

Although, I could also have spent £15 on a tray of literal scrap, so....

What are you talking about? There are two upside-down High Speeds in the bottom right corner!

Have to say that fake Corgi DB5 is interesting too but more the kind of thing worth paying 50p for as a bit of amusement

Quite true - and it's a fairly bashed-about Porsche 928, just visible to the left of the Honda.

I nearly got it a few weeks back along with the other High Speeds, but it just seemed a bit too scruffy so I left it.

But, if you're keen...?

Yeah, it was still there too - pretty ropey, and I don't know how much of a giggle it could generate at £2.50.

Pull-back friction motor and - is that a speaker?

I guess we'll never know.

I also hadn't twigged that these existed before - Lledo explicitly playing to the younger collector for their Days Gone range, presumably trying to elbow Corgi's Cameo range out of the way.

It seems to have two diecast body pieces, rather like the Corgi Chrysler Imperial - but unlike the Imperial, has only a plastic base and a rather thin metal chassis to keep it all together.

So it's a wee bit bendy in the middle.

I also broke the bonnet trying to get it open, as I'm naturally clumsy...

I didn't notice that the windscreen was broken until after I'd bought it, either.

The interior's quite detailed too:

Will I keep it? Will I sell it?

I dunno. I'm not really a man with a plan these days. My main ambition was just to make it to the end of the week...

Oh, and I'll be in touch with everyone waiting on their buses once I've got them all together in one place and found suitable postage boxes for them- at the minute they're scattered over various locations as, for reasons it's best not to go into, I do envy you folks with diecast-tolerant spouses..

Happy Friday, kids.

Yeah, this is the problem - at the minute our attic is filled with rolled-up underlay and dust while the plumber and electrician rocks up every now and then to fit more lengths of radiator piping or install wiring for lights in the rooms below.

I'm hoping that one day, I may have a small sanctuary for diecast up there - but that day is not yet close at hand...

Meant to respond to this at the time - that appears to be the very first release of this casting. I had to check on Wiki as it looks so nice in that guise I couldn't quite believe it was the same one later used in the mainline without the opening hood
