Well then. Some purchases were purchased.

The Norev Laguna. Obviously.

IMG_20231215_1310062.thumb.jpg.a4af74a4112c196bb19412bf569426c0.jpg

I mean, it's a bit modern and all - but I couldn't leave it, at that price.

Also, while not usually my thing, this Dinky Routemaster looked pretty clean.

IMG_20231215_1310242.thumb.jpg.85100a6db3016ce09119856e19d7f08b.jpg

And lastly:

IMG_20231215_1312142.thumb.jpg.568349676ba19690aaf1c2284c8740ce.jpg

A filthy but intact Lesney Super Kings container. With some careful cleaning, this should scrub up alright and provide a better load for my recent Scammell.

I was going to say that Laguna was the buy of the day, but the Routemaster is in great condition.

I'd leave the container is as found dock side condition.

It's done. A final dabbing of DecalFix and a bit of trimming on some of the worst overhangs the Luso BMW 320 is done.

It'll be going on Ebay over Christmas. What will it make, who knows, but it will be no where near what some think they are worth.

Rare Luso BMW 320 Group 5 prepainted "Warsteiner" model kit in 1:43 scale | eBay

I had it listed as a buy it now for months at £20 a couple of years ago.

Next up on the transfer list is this Record that's just a Solido with some decals in a livery that they did not do.

I'm not sure who made this big plastic tractor set, but it's quite appealing:

IMG_20231215_0733422.thumb.jpg.e1f94d19037816b031226ca56722c87d.jpg

The only clue to the manufacturer is the letters 'GBZ' emblazoned on the end of the box.

Not really my thing, but a lovely set anyway - especially with the stylised '50s farm illustration on the inside of the box.

GBZ was VEB Glasbijouterie Zittau, one of the DDR (East Germany) state-controlled industries.  The set was produced from 1960.

The city of Zittau is in the easternmost district, bordering both Poland and Czech Republic.

The tractor is modelled on a Famulus, before roll-over bars, so 1958-64

Can I dibsy the Laguna please Tim, if it happens to come up for sale? I like those Renner dealer models.

Duly noted!

That Laguna is excellent, good find!

Most of those Solidos are from the Century of Cars. I also spied a Bugatti Royale in the background. Although not my thing, I have mine displayed as it is actually very nicely done and has opening doors and removable bonnet with engine. The 1950 Chevrolet is not from the series though, the one issued is allover cream.

I tried to shift some mint and boxed 1970s Solidos about 10 years ago but had to give them away in the end. I still have a few. They're very odd as they just don't really feel like toys yet they are strangely austere. A Pilen or Mercury is more detailed and arguably fragile, but they are fun to (carefully) play with and have features like cast-in badges and paper numberplates. A wobbly plastic Norev is equally fun to look sat and even the later 1970s and early 1980s  Jet-Cars and similarly bestowed Solidos are somehow shonkily characterful.

It's a shame as they have some great subjects, but the fact that I received almost the entire range of Century of Cars for nothing does indeed firmly place them in Days Gone territory in terms of value. Thankfully they are a lot more pleasant to display though.

Are they worth more "done" or with the decals still on the sheet? Not that I really worry about values - unless I'm buying!

In the world of kits they are always worth far more untouched in the box. With diecasts I'm not so sure. With some of the early Vitesse models that come with a sheet of decals I find that the one with the decals done sell better. Obviously some people prefer the decals done, especially if they have not tried putting them on before or have tried and failed. But the decals do need to be done well and not stuck on like I used to do with my Airfix models when I was about 6 with them all a jaunty angles and all the small ones left in the saucer of water.

I like that Mattel now and again make something that ties in with a previous release - for example this Beetle in a multi-pack only colour scheme...

This Corsa has been in our household for a few years now, and clutch slave cylinder and BCM failures aside, it's been a fantastic little motor, and is now doing sterling service with Mrs-W201. When I first got it, I looked for a model version, as I do for a lot of my past & present cars now. As you might imagine, there aren't a lot of makers falling over themselves to make 3 door Corsas...

Pretty soon after getting the car, I got hold of this Norev Corsa D (the E, which ours is, hasn't been modelled sadly, so the D is the nearest I can get.) In Vauxhall dealer packaging,

IMG_20191005_143512.thumb.jpg.bf62168accc04ef878d9491ffd4766cc.jpg

It's a nice, well detailed little thing,

IMG_20191005_143629.thumb.jpg.b5b2ed4c349ed690a9542b040fc0576b.jpg

But the one I've always wanted is the red Norev OPC (VXR to us) version, as looks wise it's the closest model to the real car, being a red VX-line. Sadly it's always been a bit on the spendy side with prices being anywhere between £70-£100. However I did discover the budget brand Welly also did an OPC, but the majority are in a slightly odd 1/34 scale and it's a bit toy like with opening doors with massive shut lines and I think, a pull back motor. They also do a smaller 1/43 version which looks more "model" like, but they're quite hard to find in this country. However one came up on eBay with a UK seller and at less than a tenner posted, I thought I'd see what it's like.

IMG_20231215_141522.thumb.jpg.f9b98e9a585a6139d878c7fa26c792a0.jpg

Nice simple packaging obviously helps the low purchase price. No Vanguards style acrylic display case and 784 awkward easily lost retaining screws here!

IMG_20231215_141833.thumb.jpg.dea3aeee9d163c547142b697fef083ce.jpg

The shape of the Corsa is captured well. The wheels aren't too bad and are good replicas of the actual OPC/VXR items.

IMG_20231215_141652.thumb.jpg.6e42a54989a8aadb23ab59823597435a.jpg

Main gripe is that the paint is obviously not to Minichamps standards, a fair amount of small  bubbles and impurities, but it's shiny. Moulded in wipers obviously but they're quite well detailed and they've put some effort in with the painted screen and window surrounds.

IMG_20231215_141717.thumb.jpg.d9083f4574aa9a52e6fd859738b3b795.jpg

Again, with front end detail, can't really complain for the price. Separate rather than painted-in grille, air intakes and fog light housings and the headlights look pretty good.

IMG_20231215_142051.thumb.jpg.09639b8562c309fc5009700e6f4aafe4.jpg

Decent badging at rear, the moulded in rear wiper is pretty sharp and the detail on the rear diffuser is pretty good too, with the centre exit tailpipe detail. A bit of silver Sharpie should highlight that a bit better.

IMG_20231215_141746.thumb.jpg.ee0b6635d08a13959c181d0e0c7976f7.jpg

Side repeaters are moulded in, but they are the OPC specific ones with the surrounds. Main gripe in this area is the filled-in A pillar window ahead of the mirror but a bit of Sharpie in here might make it less obvious.

As it's an all black interior and with the usual Vauxhall shallow windows, I couldn't really see the interior, but as this one's a cheapie, I didn't mind whipping off the base. Although I wasn't expecting a great deal...

IMG_20231213_230423.thumb.jpg.cd4f4d3814568011a9cf936eecd6677e.jpg

As expected, shiny black plastic abounds, but the seats have the proper batwing/Darth Vader shape and a bit of piping detail.

IMG_20231213_230448.thumb.jpg.fbf053f6062469facc538215bfd0750b.jpg

Even has the seat belt buckles in the rear.

IMG_20231213_230701.thumb.jpg.6cbbca92476c306cd3a45faefb81018f.jpg

Cupholders!

IMG_20231213_230619.thumb.jpg.8eddeb3c9311392845e9843101ad315b.jpg

A bit of highlighting here would have worked wonders, but all the bits of a Corsa dash are there, and nice work on the flat-bottomed steering wheel.

All in all, I really like it. Very nearly  collectors model quality and detail for less than the price of a Hot Wheels Premium, and it's near enough to a model of my own car.

Fair play to Welly. The 1:64, 1:43 and 1:24 Lupos are pretty decent bits of kit for their age and (original) price, VW scene tax means they're not easy to come by in the larger scales though.

It is interesting who they're actually aiming their products at - kids with an eye for realism or adults?

Posted

I've got a few Saabs under various names but all likely from Hongwell (New Ray, Schuco Junior Driver etc). The older ones are a bit toy like but the newer Junior Driver ones are excellent and very close to a premium item.

So good shout on the Welly Corsa, I'd be very happy with that, especially for a tenner.

Buses anyone?

And what sort of price would the Escort be worth? Seller is asking a high price but I have no idea of their value.

I haven't yet unpacked our box of models that moved house with us (5 years ago) but I seem to remember their Soft Blue one being an exception match for MrsSE's real one. Until one of my colleagues reversed into it* necessitating a gaffer tape repair.

*Yes, I asked "how did you hit the smallest car in the car park" too

Posted

So, yesterday MrsSE came home unexpectedly early, causing a mild panic and rapid tidying up as I was alone in the spare room with the computer on and a load of tissues.

Yes, of course I was watching old music videos on YT and building a base for the Saxo to sit on. 36 years old and sat there with paint, fuzzy felt, cutting up sponges and making paper mache...

Had another box from Europe arrive today.
Lots of stuff in it, but for now here’s another Cortina Taunus, in black this time.
I think I’ve got more of these now than Ford actually ever made!

The Buick was a badly battered and bent one I used for spares to fix another better one but decided I’d do something with it, mainly just to see if I could actually do it. Inspired by the Vice Grip Garage Independence Chevelle!! I’ll call this one the Buick Regal Patriot!
It’s by no means perfect but good enough! The stars didn’t work so well though. I was going to use transfers, but the decided to try doing them in paint using some finger nail art star stickers as masking. It worked but they were a bastard to peel off and some did damage the white paint underneath so I’ll have to touch them in by brush.
The car itself was quite badly bent when I got it, the roof took some serious hammering and filler to get back into shape again.

Like the stars n stripes - maybe the paper reward chart stickers would be easier to remove?

My checkered roof mask is meant for nail art and is very sticky, been fortunate not peeling paint off after using that

It is the IXO casting.
The black car came in a plastic bubble with card base so must be from some magazine partwork of some sort.
But, it’s identical to the green and silver IXO boxed ones I’ve got. And it’s almost identical to the red IXO ones I’ve got too but for one detail… strangely the red version is right hand drive! Why they did that I don’t know.

Could you help me find a saloon Omega facelift that doesn't look like a failed experiment involving Lego and a blowtorch?
