That Consul is lovely, but the Siku Granada offends me so much I want to buy one off eBay and turn into a banger racer after a destruction derby using a lump hammer.

We're just a few quotes short of completing the NorfolkNWeigh hardback issue of 'Expressions of distaste for the Siku Ford Granada'.

A hearty tome, following on from the bestseller, 'Ways to Rid the World of Days Gone (By)'. Numerous authors.

Found myself at a loose end and managed to convince myself to part with £7.20 for this with a fancy box that'll go straight into the recycling.

also picked up a more palatable priced CR-X to bring the average down.

Here’s a few of the pieces of shit fine collectibles, I’ve hoiked out of the loft over the last few days. These are (probably!) some I’m keeping btw!

No idea wtf RAAC means on the Crapi!?
That Granada is, it turns out one of two of those I own now. The other was in a job lot I got a few months ago.

IMG_2588.thumb.jpeg.8866127c9fb5acec0eed3162d81e26ee.jpeg

Again, one of two of the Superkings ovloV 240 estates I’ve got. Both red. One from a job lot, this one from a box in the loft.
The Plymouth is really nice, just a shame it’s lost its roof sign.

Theyve all had a much needed wash. All were covered in dust and grime from sitting so long.

It means it's full of holes and might fall on a child's head at any moment.

Quick, save yourself from danger and post it to me.

I've one of those green MK1 Granada/consuls but I didn't know about the coupe version.

It's supposed to be RMC, not RAAC

It’s a funny one, I’m not a collector of Yatmong really but I like that one. It’s got a metal base plate too which I thought odd for that brand.
Id prefer it without the Rock Roll graphics. It is a Cadillac after all and such decoration on a stately automobile would be just vulgar!

Ahh, Monte Carlo… that’s in Essex right!

Was that Crapi in a set or something? Seems a bit random to have the stickers on it? Most of them were just basic colours without branding. I think I’ve got a red one somewhere.

Edit;

I just looked at the Capri and it does clearly say R M C …. I think I need my eyes testing!

If you removed the tampo off the Cadillac though, it might make it look just plain afterwards?

It looks like it would come off quite easily with either white spirit or maybe T-Cut rubbed gently with a cotton bud, but I think it’s a bit too nice to do it to?
I think it’s one from a boot sale I picked up when I was a kid.

Also spotted the Corgi Mack Tank Transporter, not a common find

Remember this from Friday?

On 9/22/2023 at 8:59 AM, Datsuncog said:

Indeed - sadly without its tank, and with the bonnet release mechanism borked so it's permanently resting in the 'up' position:

IMG_20230922_0752432.thumb.jpg.66e142dcf295793885a30597704ab529.jpg

I'm tempted, for sure...

Turns out that temptation is one of those things I just can't resist.

IMG_20230926_1338012.thumb.jpg.73cf7c493c8c31b3e28119ab6a149023.jpg

After more than strictly necessary amounts of dithering and hand-wringing, this Corgi GS10 military Mack R-series low loader did, ultimately, come home with me on Friday.

IMG_20230926_1338082.thumb.jpg.4720c90667e76431204d79d2a4d99fca.jpg

It's not in the very best of nick, but it's not too bad and - as noted - it's not a terribly common item either.

I mean, Old Man Van Cleemput reckons Corgi punted out some 220,000 of them between 1976 and 1979, but I've never seen one before.

Maybe a lot of them went via their importers in the US of A?

IMG_20230926_1338202.thumb.jpg.83be3c14a2c9f26138cad2c113377217.jpg

There should be an air intake stack between the flip-up front end and cabin, but that seems to have gone AWOL - along with half the exhaust stack.

IMG_20230926_1338342.thumb.jpg.2517d0eedbc13b84b07999faff3a0f7b.jpg

The clip that holds the spring-loaded front end is also a bit bust - it's just possible to get it to catch, but it'll only stay in place for a few minutes before springing open again of its own accord; sooner than that if you happen to touch it.

I could, of course, simply remove or otherwise disable the little spring to prevent this occurrence...

IMG_20230926_1338452.thumb.jpg.2be133064d501399153878f549ab3912.jpg

The trailer is an impressive bit of kit, mind you - the rear bogey is held on as a tension fit piece, and once removed allows the rear ramps to fold down for a tank to gain access.

IMG_20230926_1339102.thumb.jpg.086a60f5e2b8f6ec4f650bd3545dd9e8.jpg

Looks like it'd be a bit of a pain to operate IRL - I don't know enough about vintage trailers to know if this was a common set-up?

And yes, that is a big spill of what looks to be superglue on the rear deck.

IMG_20230926_1339272.thumb.jpg.d380608a05112ca2ac99a7660d01d6d5.jpg

Other than a fair bit of mud adhering to various parts, it's actually in alright shape - it's seen some action, but not too much abuse.

IMG_20230926_1339332.thumb.jpg.4995915d99eb409a99d14e8d2c17421f.jpg

Underside detailing isn't quite as painstakingly rendered as that on the earlier Ford H-Series semi, but is fairly good anyways.

IMG_20230926_1339422.thumb.jpg.d07750fa4413b5e9a4c0fda12ceaa027.jpg

Unusually, the trailer's semi-permanently affixed to the cab with a screw fixing - probably easily removed, though I'm a bit surprised it doesn't decouple as a feature, as some articulated trucks in the range did.

IMG_20230926_1340022.thumb.jpg.967877373269d627cc8e5aaa4017b57a.jpg

I'll let you into a secret - I didn't even know this casting Mack R casting existed until I got my copy of The Great Book of Corgi a few years back.

I mean, I knew there was a smaller Corgi Juniors version paired with a tanker - I'd had a secondhand one of those since I was a kid - but I'd no clue a bigger Corgi Major variant was lurking, out of sight.

So - I really like this. And, even though in general I'm not such a fan of military stuff, I've been experiencing moments of wondering where I might obtain a Centurion MkIII tank to act as a load...

I'd still love to find a civvie haulage version of the Mack too, just as I'd like a Scammell Handyman and Ford H-Series...

Y'never know what might crop up on the stall next week, or the week after!

It’s pretty badly proportioned but then as a kid, Ford Granada estates are few and far between so beggars couldn’t be choosers.

Only thing I remember setting fire to was a Corgi 190E 16v and one of those chinese VW LT things.

I set fire to a Matchbox Maserati Bora

I think the idea was to get it to look a burned out shell for a diorama

Except, attention deficit happened as I had walked away from  it

Later, Mum noticed, alarmed, that the fence was alight and raging at the top of the garden

Dad put it out and was raging himself that it had taken the wiring to the shed with it

The next day I went back to find the Maserati Bora shell.  All there was was a lump of melted metal

That was the day I realised that I was a twat

I wonder if the Cleemput figure of 220k included the tankers and containers since 1971 ?

The first two variants of the Mack R arrived as part of the Corgi Majors range in October and November 1971.

First up was No 1152 Mack Truck with Gloster Saro Articulated Petrol Tanker. This was new tooling in all aspects – both tractor and trailer. The Mack tractor unit was produced in 1/48 scale

The following month No 1100 Mack Truck with Trans Continental Trailer was released, this time finished all over in orange. The trailer was first used in 1965 as part of No 1137, hauled by a Ford Tilt Cab H Series [https://www.collectors-club-of-great-britain.co.uk/articles/big-macks-corgi-mack-r-collectable-trucks/]

I’ve got the Mack tank transporter but mines missing the littlest bogey wheels set. I liked it so thought I’d keep it and try to find a replacement. So far I have not!

Ive got the others too,

The tanker came with either Esso stickers or (presumably for the US market?) Exxon stickers. Pretty sure mines Esso.

Theres also the rigid body Mack crane truck, in red with the bull bars on the front.

Ive got all of them, and at least two spare tractor units for messing around with into other things. You can get replacement bits too like the exhaust, wheels & tyres, the bonnet clip parts…

That’s the one, set fire to it by the local stream in the park, it got a bit out of hand so I scraped it in to the stream. I went back past there a while back, I’ve no doubt it’s probably still in there but fuck wading in to look for it. If it was a Lone Star Firenza maybe though!

I just thought it ironic that it was the fire service one. You had the choice of police or ambulance too when you chose a Voikowageng

Best truck film ever?  I think so.  But did you know:

Quote

This primary truck was a brand new 1977 Mack RS712LST, VIN 35492.  After filming, the truck was shipped back to the Hayward California factory and rebuilt due to extensive damage from crashes and bullets.

There were 3 other RS700L's used - a 1973 that was gutted and used as a pull-along prop for on-highway dialogue scenes and two identical 1970's. One of the 1970's was gutted and used to send off the bridge  [imcdb.com]

I'm looking forward to the @Datsuncog garden patio Convoy Bridge Crash event.  A pairing-up of the Gloster Saro fuel tanker with the Tank Transporter tractor (because bull bars).  A lick of paints, deftly modelled bridge, angled cinemaCOGraphy; it could be brill.  Aardman would be on the phone in minutes.

FILM FACT:  When Rubber Duck's truck falls from the bridge, the drive shaft to the rear axles is missing

"You ever seen a duck that couldn't swim?”

VIN 35492 lives on today

The surviving tanker is a 1960 Trailmobile and just 20 of those trailers were ever made

But I absolutely loved the film Convoy when I was a kid and, as I said upthread, had a special place for the Corgi Juniors Mack R-Series tractor unit and Saro Gloster tanker trailer.

Watching it now, it's all a bit of a mess - it can't decide whether to be a smash-em-up road comedy, or a melodrama about modern-day desert cowboys wronged by corrupt authorities - but I understand the released version wasn't the film Sam Peckinpah had shot, after he was fired and EMI brought in someone else to piece a coherent and marketable narrative together from all the hours (and hours, and hours) of raw footage.

Not quite as amusing as Smokey and the Bandit, not as tense as Duel, not involving as many wrecks as the original Gone In 60 Seconds, and never quite reaching the same cod-philosophical ponderings as Vanishing Point, Convoy still has a special place in my shite-themed DVD collection.

I'll enjoy this. Certainly brightened up a wet Tuesday morning, anyway.

Just found some IXO Rubber Ducking chat above ^

Did you know the film Duel went straight to TV and was not initially released at theatres?  That's because is was one of four films that Universal Television signed the young Steven Spielberg for.

Steven Spielberg never amounted to much after Duel 😛

Duel was my favourite film as a kid, I used to recreate it with a Superkings Ford LTS tanker and a MB68 Mercury, the ending I’d just have to improvise it at the top of the stairs. Fortunately I had a ruined Mercury to use for this very purpose.
