The armour etc is always missing. I've picked up various Roadblasters vehicles over the years, partly as a way of trying to cone to terms with deciding to sell several mint ones with all the accessories, before I really knew much about them. Didn't even make much money. The Mercury and Transit Supervan were among them

They’re not my thing tbh, some are ok, like the Mercury but without the armour on! Someone on here had the Holden pickup with the armour off me on one of my sales. Can’t remember who it was though?

Im sure I had a couple of the Mercury’s though. It might turn up over the next few days as I get through all the final boxes of crap up in the loft.
Some of the stuff I’ve found so far was from when I was little, and I remember it from then, but I’m sure an awful lot of it ended up going to my cousin when she had her first son. I must have kept hold of some and let her have the rest.

this last model from my recent CogBox will be first in the Caustic next Spring. Enough paint loss on this Thames van to justify it.

I did one of those up a while back.  I think the brighter colours lift it

Including the two Majorette Golfs at last!

20230919_154706.jpg

Managed to find both those Celicas in France, from memory a bit less than 7.49 Euros.

And that's the Golf I managed to acquire just last week for £3 in Sainsbury's, Thetford.

Yeah that was an expensive shop, €3.49 for a normal Hot Wheels I think. Going into the local town today once I've bought a new inner tube for the bike we brought with us

Spent a fun* few hours persuading my boss's knacked old Raleigh that it wanted to work, then rode into Langenfeld town centre. As usual, the choice is somewhat better than your average UK town.

This is a Tedi, one of many discount chains

Last but definitely best - Müller. I always try and find a branch when I'm here as they have a large toy department

I think so, I've been in bigger branches where they have huge displays full of the tiny ones for model railways, prices aren't tiny though. My 1:24 scale T3 wasn't much more than that!

Mrs just sent me a link to a job lot on FB sales including one I didn't recognise - anyone got an Iron Fairy crane? Came in both regular wheels and Superfast but only 69-71

As those who follow the 'grin' thread closely may recall, I had a bit of good fortune earlier in the week when what looked like just another spam "you're our lucky winner!" email cluttering up my junk folder turned out to be nothing of the sort...

Screenshot_20230918-1507432.thumb.png.0821211edf9105aaf2437106c1edcd24.png

Because, unusually, I had entered this competition from Oxford Diecast - though I really wasn't expecting anything from it.

Astonishingly, it was indeed legit.

And I didn't waste very much time transforming the gift card code into something rather more enjoyable.

And it's touched down safely (hat tip for speedy service, guys).

So what does £50 get you these days?

I did have one of those - unusual plastic baseplate on it, although mine had detached itself from the main body casting as the plastic round the rivets had failed.

Think it was passed on a few years back to whoever bought my giant Matchbox job lot.

Love the packaging, though!

I think that's one I still 'need' MIB-ish, will have to check when I get home.

Had the regular wheels version in the toybox when I was young (should still be around, somewhere, painted olive drab as I redid a few commercials back in the day).

Those sets top left look fun! Some sort of garage/town set-up, like Tomica Hypercity or the old Majo-Kit stuff?

Of the modern Siku vehicles, for some reason I find the 1/32 agricultural tractors and machinery to be more appealing than the cars and commercials (whether small or large scale).

A  cliché, but those German shops look clean and tidy and full of a huge variety of stock, making the UK feel,  well , 'UK grim'.

It's not nice to admit, but a lot of stuff is just better here. Housing, roads, general upkeep of everything, standards of driving and public transport etc.

Prices aren't exactly bargainous,  with odd exceptions like beer being cheaper than soft drinks generally.

There are some things missing, no charity shops to speak of but also no weed smoke or shitty Fiestas with pop-bang remaps either.

The Jensen was the most spendy, as you might imagine.

List price of £24.95, but it is lovely.

Modelling an early Vignale-bodied Interceptor,

[EDIT: apparently not]

the striking features such as the glass hatch, alloy wheels and polished sill caps are very nicely rendered.

IMG_20230918_1256312.thumb.jpg.8280fa9ef3360ee9006a0001da56b699.jpg

If I had to criticise anything, the headlamp bezels are maybe a bit heavy and I think the grille's a little bit on the wonk...

IMG_20230918_1256402.thumb.jpg.8de6011f3e9d369d9a8fa9c1dae1ed79.jpg

...but overall, it's a fine model of this emblem of 1960s excess - often to be found sideways in a ditch after its over-refreshed pop star owner suddenly found the 7.2 litre Chrysler lump a bit too much of a handful on a sharp left-hander.

There used to be a factory on the Boucher Road in Belfast, long since demolished now, which often had a gorgeous dark blue Interceptor parked outside in what I presume was the Managing Director's parking space.

I don't think I'd want to own a real one, but I'm just glad they exist.

And, other than the fairly abysmal Dinky rendering and the nice but hard to find Husky/ Corgi Juniors version, not a car that was modelled all that much in period.

That's crazy.   I thought, would cars really get delivered like that if at all, in a post-apocalytic distopian world?

I thought, wouldn't a Mad Max Tanker be a better choice?

As a child yes had one of those.

Same here! The reason I remember it is because the crane detached and my Dad put a nut and bolt in to hold it in place!

Not here any more though, I think it went out in a bulk ebay sale a few years back

The real thing

Oh, the bumper's slightly squint too - but if you look at the leading edge of the front slam panel just below the badge, the grille's definitely running uphill!

The Morrison-bodied Bedford CF ice cream van is mega.

IMG_20230918_1258102.thumb.jpg.6db2c6a50d8d0c48fa65c29ef896f38d.jpg

It looks just like those ubiquitous vans that roamed the streets and church fêtes of my youth, though minus the Disney and Warner Bros IP-baiting cartoons crudely mimicked on the side.

IMG_20230918_1258182.thumb.jpg.9daeb1d0ac8bae95f8d8aa5ab6ea18dc.jpg

The body shape and detailing are bang-on. The number plate font looks very accurate too.

IMG_20230918_1258252.thumb.jpg.0e110723ac68fa8766e22ca2b6d1fac2.jpg

Even the interior's been well detailed, with the Mr Whippy machine, lolly freezers and cone stackers all picked out.

IMG_20230918_1258372.thumb.jpg.c3b9c21b84cf99fa564d051abae3e4e5.jpg

The track looks maybe a little wide, is my only complaint. But, if it bothers me that much, it's not a difficult thing to remedy...

IMG_20230918_1258502.thumb.jpg.de5dcbe24fa4a802586010b8efdad1af.jpg

Overall - it's a model I've admired for a while, but couldn't really justify splashing £17.95 on.
