Now this was more like it.

And, of course, the added frisson of a head-to-head with my former diecast foe - who would find the gold?

Well, kind of him, as it turned out:

IMG_20230818_0753222.thumb.jpg.a505f1b367d8e246b555cb3ce678f300.jpg

The Dinky Supertoys Vega Major coach was another that - like the Mercedes LP 1920 truck profiled the other week - suffered from Project Drive style cheeseparing under Meccano's new owners, Lines Bros. This later example had lost its working headlights, but it's still a lovely big model.

But that's not to say there wasn't still treasure to be found...

IMG_20230818_0749252.thumb.jpg.d1f01ec1ecf6742be736405229ed2164.jpg

A pair of early Corgi DB4s...

IMG_20230818_0749472.thumb.jpg.b9e289b9a611ee7636d60130b3b037bd.jpg

The brighter yellow example had definitely been drilled and repainted - yet was in worse condition than the original paler yellow one.

IMG_20230818_0748522.thumb.jpg.e5b3c2e4b691e902d62e980d8f0a18f9.jpg

Two later examples, in green and white racing trim.

IMG_20230818_0750172.thumb.jpg.7b24132eb86aa5ce200af4141946b901.jpg

And more repainting fun, with this Corgi Renault Floride and Volvo P1800S also taking on the racing mantle.

IMG_20230818_0750362.thumb.jpg.b1b2b46daa9a51f39681779dc0d01f96.jpg

Dinky Ford Sedan (sloppily overpainted) and Corgi 'Golden Guinea' Studebaker Golden Hawk bringing a bit of transatlantic glitz to an otherwise grey Belfast morning.

IMG_20230818_0752202.thumb.jpg.a0bebc750355a6b41961c22958113ec7.jpg

I've been looking for a decent Corgi MkX Jaguar for a while.

I'm still looking.

XK120 coop also suffering slightly from Dinky's 1950s jollity drive, when they began applying the most ludicrous two-tone shades to their models in an effort to create more appeal for kids.

IMG_20230818_0749122.thumb.jpg.0476c5cee291776fb5e4862fbb1df1df.jpg

Corgi Jeep Forward Control actually quite clean; Land Rover missing its bumper ends, as ever.

IMG_20230818_0751012.thumb.jpg.315ccc86b37568da42d23e15c2c19bce.jpg

Dinky Bedford dropside and US gas hauler were fundamentally intact.

IMG_20230818_0751182.thumb.jpg.3394ab71978d321cff30eaceb22019de.jpg

Corgi ERF refuse wagon and Commer flatbed a bit worse for wear, though.

IMG_20230818_0751342.thumb.jpg.366c574ef49645080823b06196ccef3f.jpg

And dropping... ERF tipper missing a fair bit of superstructure, while the Dinky bus had been on the receiving end of some Humbrol love.

IMG_20230818_0804172.thumb.jpg.be3df82dac194d081df610ec85b519d8.jpg

Dinky Jeep and Karrier(?) flatbed suffering from assorted axle-involved maladies.

IMG_20230818_0752352.thumb.jpg.f9b255a83f997604752a98ca97f023ac.jpg

Loadless Supertoys Foden 8-wheeler had suffered a considerable knock at some point in its history...

IMG_20230818_0752532.thumb.jpg.52000eda5e52da83bd7417484f8ca24d.jpg

The whole cab's been shunted back on the chassis

IMG_20230818_0752592.thumb.jpg.a9fb976343fe377518df34304830f230.jpg

But still - it survives.

They made 'em tough.

Because I'm fundamentally lazy, I didn't bother hoking out the duplicates or military stuff... cos I'm not really that interested in military stuff.

IMG_20230818_0747592.thumb.jpg.1e09814ee8760e2f4402d8c8c9991cc7.jpg

Which is a pity, as then this appeared...

Some minor scuffing to the sunroof and surround, and missing the mirrored bit off one of the door mirrors - but ultimately should display ok, I reckon!

Yep, that's the very one.

Didn't hang around too long - the proprietor of one of the record stalls snaffled that while I was rootling through the box of Corgi.

The least said of my musical endeavours the better - though I can't speak for The Nemesis...

£10 on that one too - mostly intact without too much paint damage...

Thanks very much for doing that. I already have one but its been poorly resprayed black and has a headlamp lens missing. I've been on the lookout for a cheap original one for some time.

£5 - but it has no front axle, or the tinplate base either. Annoying.

Not sure about headlights?  The circuit lit the side indicators

I would have given £20 for it.   Do have one already but it has been code-3'd by someone

While I may say I have no interest in military stuff, these were impressive bits of kit nonetheless.

IMG_20230818_0808542.thumb.jpg.073e8f252a34853495506d1c0323966c.jpg

Seemingly collector-owned, rather than kiddy-owned, as they were in good shape with tracks and guns largely intact.

IMG_20230818_0809132.thumb.jpg.74bb0ee90e88c75bdf142392ac5376be.jpg

The pale-sand coloured one here is a Polistil model...

IMG_20230818_0809162.thumb.jpg.d87aab503f53da2ec41c10c374669c44.jpg

While the two in the far left, behind the field guns, are by Solido.

IMG_20230818_0810052.thumb.jpg.5833232fca81684e44a1933d5fe19124.jpg

These are Dinky, and by cracky, they're heavy.

IMG_20230818_0810142.thumb.jpg.bbf4edbef54e7dc1b9bb81545ebc2672.jpg

Corgi, Dinky and Crescent stuff here.

And military figures, too.

IMG_20230818_0808492.thumb.jpg.ab3d41e98463c5a4438a619cd9890a74.jpg

Still not really my bag, but appealing stuff, I'll admit...

So, some purchases were made - against fiscal prudence, probably - and I wandered off to see what else was on offer at the other stalls...

This very clean and boxed Dinky Cinderella's Coach was an unexpected discovery at one of the general antique stalls.

IMG_20230818_0832072.thumb.jpg.54986b789845a0bbe70f7688be623629.jpg

But is it one for the collection? Maybe not.

Colin's Irish Tat stall was more or less unchanged...

IMG_20230818_0829292.thumb.jpg.02857be8d19984959491301e692e4176.jpg

Though I think this is the Celica he mentioned a few weeks ago:

IMG_20230818_0829122.thumb.jpg.b4fc7a2b79c21986de2d4bd5aa27691a.jpg

£37, though.

Gulp.

Hot Wheels unchanged...

IMG_20230818_0829542.thumb.jpg.7823af726d2dff3ee6cf9b56e17251b4.jpg

'Gross worm with a belly full of bugs' unchanged.

Matchbox Convoys unchanged.

IMG_20230818_0830032.thumb.jpg.c1134c6279a31c816b22b9706890202f.jpg

Hallowe'en tat - uncomfortably NEW.

The former Charity Stall, which now seems to be slowly rebranding as 'Larry's Independent Traders' (complete with Only Fools And Horses style logo) had nowt of any interest, unless you're mad keen on knives and bayonets and dog-eared paperbacks giving wildly partisan accounts of The Troubles.

The antiques stall with that Winscott box truck seems to be slowly assimilating it into its boxes of assorted rubbish.

IMG_20230818_0832372.thumb.jpg.87c04b6932b26a1cfbae96516132d9cd.jpg

US gas hauler

The most common of those Studebaker petrol tankers in red is the Mobilgas one 1953-61

DinkyToys30pPetrolTankerinDTcatalogue1953aa.jpg.3b1cb936451b54307d728ba5210f6321.jpg

Looking at the grill and bumper it doesn't look repainted?  I reckon it would have been the earlier Esso livery 1952-60

DinkyToysPetrolTankersinDTcatalogue1956bc.jpg.be7d27345b22cbec7576d3a49a5da72f.jpg

It's a model of a genuine body offered as part of Studebaker’s '2R' series, produced 1949-54

1949StudebakerTruckAd-03b.thumb.jpg.ac75a7438ad9e9c8dd036af28ada84c7.jpg

Dinky listed it in catalogues as Petrol Tanker though, Studebaker not mentioned.  New for 1950.  I wonder how the North Americans took to the word 'petrol' rather than 'gasoline', or perhaps just the Mobilgas variation was exported there

£10 on the bigger tanks (think the pale green one is a Chieftain ?), and £5 on the smaller lorries (some of which are repaints).

A final saunter back round the main Tat Stall revealed this large, but surprisingly unbranded, Ferrari 312P.

IMG_20230818_0939452.thumb.jpg.877f5237932b86517d1c78044f2a33ca.jpg

I think this was maybe a premium model offered by the Shell Collection, but missing its plastic display stand - so could it be Maisto?

Also, this handy lubrication chart for your Morris 8:

IMG_20230818_0942402.thumb.jpg.b0b990fa26182df6d1c182ec65ef5bca.jpg

IMG_20230818_1008482.thumb.jpg.da6446503f76526a5f47b70283ba3ddf.jpg

A metaphorical cherry atop the Knickerbocker Glory of the week's diecast - but, there wasn't really anything new here. Ah well.

He's still hiding his £12 Days Gone around the corner, for some reason.

I would too, if I were him.

So!

That's a peculiar choice of livery for a code 3. United Counties never had anything that looked even remotely like that and were a committed Bristol operator.

The pale-sand coloured one here is a Polistil model...

I think that would be the scarce one on the table.  It's a 1:50 Polistil Centurion Mk5, produced for a short time 1974-76.  In Israeli livery.

Yes, Chieftain.  A rushed-to-production tank using a Leyland two-stroke engine with a superb 90% breakdown rate

Not sure that the Solido far left is also a Chieftain.

But the Polistil at the bottom next to the AA badge is.

@Datsuncogcan I please rescue the BMW matchbox from Alan's 50p tray, it should be an easy little restore and offer back on here or re-sell elsewhere if I have to! Assuming glazing is intact.

Yes, the glazing is intact, and would benefit from a good clean - although there's a slight kink to the T-roof at the top of the driver's side door, which is just about visible in this pic from last week:

Could be twisted back into shape with the judicious application of some pliers?

Will head back over around 12 and see if it's still there, if you're still keen!

While Mr. Cog is cataloging today's finds, I'll jump in with a few updates of my own.

Lone Star Taunus got a revamp and is the first custom to receive the lovely new wheels off the Hot Wheels Alfa.

My intention was to pretty much restore this and change the wheels, I had a can of lilac at the ready but it's just such a wrong colour for this car. Most of them seemed to be white or light blue, with the odd red etc so I went with Olympic Blue. Other than getting rid of the fairly bad casting lines I haven't modified it at all, so if someone really wanted to restore it they could
