it has taken some effort just to get the flippin' thing to ths state,  and yes, it been all one colour is a kop out, but it is more suited to my (lack of) skil;l with a wet brush.

where did we start, i DID have a go at 2 tone paint, aaaand it looked gash!

so, it got stripped back to bare metal, and we tried again. this time i had decided to go with mainly blue bodywork, but with a white hard top/roof thing, as in real life the herald could be altered easily and converted from convertable/coupe/saloon if you wanted to do so.

BUT, the addition of beer, and paint didn't end well, with the car ending up on the floor while still tacky. so, the moral of that sorry tale is kids, don't drink and paint, cos things end up covered in fluff.

i stipped the damn thing back to bare metal again, and we tried for a third time, and this time deciding to stick with a plain colour scheme, based on this

and here it is at home

Have to say, I'm loving seeing what people do with "my" cars.  Keep showing us, won't you?

Jo: lovely Herald there.

Some of you might remember this.

However, the flowers were deemed too ugly and hence restoration was ordered by Junkdaughter #2.

And she wanted me to make it into a proper blood box again.

Body snatcher is now also painted in the spirit of back then.

The interior is now Asylum Green.

That Daimler looks stunning - colour choices and subtle detailing are fantastic.

Not that it didn't look, erm, very striking in the 'before' pictures...

If anything deserves the title "blood box" it is one of those DC Daimlers.......Reckon you've nailed the 50s horror of that one, JM.   An old fella at work told me he got knocked down at Hyde Park Corner as a kid.   Apparently they backed one of these up to him, left the motor running, chucked him in the back with a dressing (which he had to press against his wound), slammed the back doors and whisked him away Winkworth-ing like hell all the way to some blackened hospital building.   He was obviously still traumatised by the bloody thing.....

Tiny Transit is coming along this week, with its regime of daily oven-cleaner baths:

Day 2:

Day 4:

20190214_003153.jpg

I'm hoping that tonight should see it Humbrol-free.

I managed to lose the light from the roof while attempting to remove it (pinged it across the room; no idea where it landed in the deep-pile rug) and, as expected, the hazard markings on the bumpers have also come off with the cleaning product - so it's not going to be going back to factory finish anyway.

Open to suggestions for colour scheme - knowing now that I can strip it back as/when I bugger it up is very helpful...

Another addition to my reverse rake rear window collection, another bloody Ford.

This takes my total to three, an Anglia, this, and I count all my Amis as one.

I wish someone would do the Reliant Regal saloon in 1/43, I remember my utterly bonkers uncle Alan having a green one with a towbar on, which he used to tow a trailer tent with! He replaced that motor with an R reg'd Austin Maxi 1750 which he grenaded the engine on! My family were utter shiters, need anoher 1/43 Horizon to make a Silver Fox like my uncle Rob had, I remember the Lotus Sunbeam alloys on it

I bet that Transkit is mega rare, I remember a few of them using Vanguards donors.

I finally got round last weekend to painting the Gama Cavalier Loon that I'd previously stripped down for a repaint.

post-3802-0-07260600-1550190695_thumb.jpg

After some thought I decided on a Vauxhall Blue Met spray can that I picked up cheap ages ago for the colour.

Also gone base spec as never seen Gama make a saloon in base flavour. Painted the bumpers with a Humbrol Satin Grey. Which I thought that with the added rear spoiler is a nice reminder to when I was a kid in the 80's & 90's, when people use to put aftermarket spoilers, cheapo wheel trims and side stripes / graphics etc on cars.

Used the wheels I had spare off a Gama Astra which I also sprayed Silver from there original Grey, just to make it look like someone had tried to upspec it slightly too.

Pictures make it look more Black and despite using masking tape my side trim isn't perfect either but overall I'm pretty pleased with it considering I did it!

Back to the crates at St George's this morning, and a few items of interest - not only in the rummage boxes, but on the stall itself:

20190215_084457.jpg

Oho, is this of shiter interest?

20190215_084457 (2).jpg

£3 secures this R4 in 1/24-ish scale, which looks like it's missing decals etc. Not my thing these days - but I'll nip over at noon and see if it's still there, should anyone be keen to nab it? Think it's Bburago, mebbe Polistil??

Also available were these Michelin commercial vehicles, from a 2005 magazine partwork. I had a few of these, selling them last year to some of you 'orrible lot.

20190215_084320.jpg

20190215_084331.jpg

A rather steep £10 each on these, new and sealed - but, again, if anyone is super-keen I could unleash my MAD HAGGGLING SKILLZ YO and see if he'll take less for them.

Crate-diving produced another few treasures - because the big plastic tubs are so big and so full (and perched atop a wobbly camping table), it's not easy to rummage through them all that well.

So what should appear this time, but that Majorette Saab Turbo from a month or two ago.

20190215_090014.jpg

20190215_090023.jpg

It's begging for a repaint, to the point that the rivet is only barely holding the body to the base.

I also succumbed to the Mercury Commuter in Police livery, which I'd resisted last week. I do like this casting; I've a plain civilian version in green with the steering suspension (and dogs) which I'm very fond of, too.

Further to my musings on the saloon version Mercury police car upthread, it's maybe odd in a way that Matchbox produced a saloon and an estate version of the same car at the same time - in both police and fire liveries. I can't think of many other manufacturers that did that, other than possibly Majorette who put out a 3dr and a 5dr version of the Series 1 Renault R5.

Also picked up these:

20190215_085950.jpg

20190215_085925.jpg

The Mercedes CLK is a Welly model; the Toyota Camry doesn't have a manufacturer but looks like it may also be made by Welly. Both are just a little cruder than Matchbox or Hot Wheels - just not quite as crisp a casting - but overall proportions aren't bad. There's even tiny, tiny badging to the bootlids of both, revealing that the Merc is a 250 Kompressor. Pity there's a few marks to the Camry's paintwork, but from the amount of wear to the wheels, this one's done a fair few miniature miles in the hands of its previous owner(s).

And then there's these:

20190215_090041.jpg

20190215_090049.jpg

The Volvo V70 (T5?) may be by Hongwell; there's no markings whatsoever on this, not even a 'Made in China' stamp. It's more toy than scale model, but may scrub up well and is screwed together for EASY REPAINT.

[EDIT: of course it's not a V70, it's an 850. Silly old Datsuncog)

The Hot Wheels blackwall taxi I'd overlooked several times in the preceding weeks, thinking it was a Crack-Up, but when I looked closer it's actually not. Just a generic Caprice-like 3-box septic, but quite nice anyway - even if the tampos are a bit rubbed.

So there we go. Nice as they are, I don't think any of the above will cross over into my Permanent Collection... so if anyone wants any of today's haul, I'll knock them out my cost price of 50p each + postage.

And, unlike those canny buyers in Bargain Twunt/ Crap In The Attic, I s'pose I'll never be rich.

But it's mebbe better to spread a bit of diecast love throughout this hard ol' world.

I’d have the Renault 4 if it’s all there and has all the wheels etc?

Yep, all the wheels appeared to be there - will nip back over at 12 and see if it's still there!

Not as great results as some...

The tanker's away, sadly - all the others are priced at £5 each.

Dinky Observation Coach is a fairly rubbish repaint, and there's a broken link in the coronation coach harness.

The boxed Solido Age d'Or is a 1939 Delahaye 135M in two tone blue.

Currently hovering around the stall!

Get us that 6 wheel Tyrell if you're still there!!

Mmm... Lucky Toys, seems to be clockwork or summat... not quite my bag, you interested?

Yes !!

Fiver ok, plus post? Secured!

(EDIT: sorry, misread your original post - thought you'd said "Get that 6 wheel Tyrell!"

Clearly, you were indeed expressing your own heartfelt longings... which hopefully can now be sated.
