bigstraight6 Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Fill up those fuel tanks now chaps! I'll wager there will be panic buying and problems come the start of the 4 day tanker drivers strike on Friday, or is it a cunning plot to get everyone to buy more fuel and have the strike called off last minute I can't believe how cynical I've become
mk2_craig Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Haha, gr8 fun watching worried boneheads queuing to buy something as if it's going to become extinct oh wait it is.
Milford Cubicle Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 I've just secured a few month's worth of veg oil. "NER NER" etc.
Split_Pin Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Oh well - at least GR8 4 SHITE SPOTTIN IN PETREL Qz ON DA BBC NEWS AII!!
Father Ted Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Brimmed the tank on the bike this morning (after riding on fumezzzz for 18 miles just to get to Asda so I can get my 2p off a litre) only to discover when I parked it in the sun the bloody tank started to overflow as the petrol heated up in the sunshine or something. must have lost 20p worth of unleaded
pogweasel Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Bollocks to it.I've a weeks worth of drawing to do, so no skin off mine.
metrognome Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 http://www.sniffpetrol.com/2008/05/02/petrol-panic/
Baz Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Apparently it's gonna affect about one in ten fuel stations....So if the media would just shut up about it, then the ignorant/selfish plonkers wouldn't start panic buying, and most of us probably wouldn't even notice!
Mr Lobster Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 There shouldn't be a problem if people are sensible. The only trouble is that a vast majority of the general public are not sensible. Its only going to affect Shell petrol stations so there will be no need for stoopid folks to panic buy petrol at Tesco but will that stop em? Doubt it.Company car is filled every two days due to the ridiculous mileage I'm currently covering, R4 is full but hardly gets used. I could go and fill the other two (Seat and Suzuki) but as I'm going to Greece next week spunking £110 of unleaded into them isn't top of my priorities.Mr Lobster Snr even came and told me to fill 'everything' At around that point I may have lost my temper a little.
Richard Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 There is a guy on the French Car Forum trying to shift 100 litres of veg oil for £50- that's less than half price at current prices. He bought it in bulk but has got rid of the car that ran on it.It's located near Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire. If anybody is interested I can pass on details.
retrogeezer Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I put £25 quid in the 323 last Friday - should last me about 3 weeks!
Pillock Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Oh how I love panic buying. Given that I don't have a car on the road, and live within walking distance if need be of work, a supermarket, and a pub.The last big strike led to people booking holidays at work so as not to use their precious petrol getting to and from. Five days later when petrol is widely available again, they're a weeks holiday down and have a full tank of juice. WTF?
Father Ted Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 The last big strike led to people booking holidays at work so as not to use their precious petrol getting to and from. Five days later when petrol is widely available again, they're a weeks holiday down and have a full tank of juice. WTF? Weird, I seem to remember being without petrol longer than a week - I remember all the petrol filling stations round here being shut and only emergency services and their workers being able to get petrol from the one garage with stocks. There were a few days I had no juice, so no work either This time I have a bike that does 200 miles on a tank of just 10 L - so no worries this time then, I will just rob the neighbours tank when he aint looking
Mash Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I've got 2 cars to fill before a show at the weekend.Do I just do it on Sunday morning on the way out as normal or do I get in now while it's quiet before the numpties start?
Guest Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I just fill the Galant up with the £45 or so it takes when it gets to near the bottom, it gets used up in about a fortnight. Some people think I'm mad for doing it, never understood why. I'm not a panic buyer, I just don't like going to the petrol station every couple of days and putting £5 in like my dad does.
Spottedlaurel Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Ditto, always done that with the daily. Fill up on the Camry this morning cost £64, but it hadn't been filled since on the way up to the Bubblecar Museum do.For some reason I only ever chuck £20-30 in the Laurel, but as I don't use it too often it still lasts a while. I deliberately don't check the MPG in that one...
pogweasel Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Both the Focus and the van are filled up in that way too. Focus usually has the needle bending round the 'empty' stop every time I go to use it though. Having a business barclaycard means that it's just easier to fill it, don't have to think of it coming out of my pocket first.
r.welfare Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Hmm. Just filled up the saloon - and the estate is pretty much full as well. So that's 700 miles per tank, which will last me two weeks at the moment (as I'm commuting 140 miles per day). Still, I get £56 per day in mileage, which pretty much equates to the cost of a week's fuel, so I can't complain. Don't even know where the nearest Shell station is, so provided the others are unaffected, I'm clear.
Guest greenvanman Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 There's £20 worth of Sainsbury's finest in the Skoda, time to syphon it out before it gets squashed. That'll keep the Daelim going for a month or so
Jazzy Jeff Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I don't get the whole "Put in a fiver every other day" mentality either. I'm running on fumes at the moment, need to fill it up but every bloody idiot for miles around is queuing up outside the petrol station. Not looking good.
Cavcraft Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Hmm, from what I've heard I can't see this being averted. It's certainly NOT a propoganda campaign or con by the fuel company. The drivers involved do not actually work for a particular petro chemical company, they are employed by someone else if that makes sense.I bet the panic buying muppets will be out in full force anytime now.
Richard Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 The panic buying muppets can bring it on as far as I'm concerned. They all fill up at Tesco and I refuse to use Tesco fuel.
Milford Cubicle Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I resent filling up, I've only done it a few times despite covering a lot of miles in the past couple of months, so I usually put £5-£20 in, even though it doesn't really save me anything.
Cavcraft Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 What I want to know though is are drivers for other companies going to cross any potential picket lines?
