Thoughts of summer are making me consider a soft top.... the MK1 golf is out cos of lap belts in the back but I am getting a semi for a rover 216 cabbie.....any thoughts on these?

Never had one, but sounds like a good idea to me! And therefore is the worst decision you could possibly make. Go for it!

Cheap as chips now, Later ones have electric hoods and the real late ones have the later shape bubble dashes, I think they are all K-Series rather then Honda but not 100% sure.

As with any soft top cheak for water ingress from the hood and i think they have plastic rear windows which are more like to break, What about a Golf MK3 Cabriolet, We paid £700 for ours, it's high spec and drives bloody well.

I had similar thoughts before xmas before I realised I was dipped in piss and couldn't afford owt. It's still a good plan though I reckon. Shiters rules say you have to flog it on at a loss before May though.

Started of with the Honda D, other options after that inc 14K16.

I quite fancied a cab a couple of years ago so bought a BMW e21 Baur Convertible. It was a lovely thing but I felt like such a total wanker driving around with the top down I always went about with the hood up (although luckily it also had pop out targa panels).

Edit. Saying all that these are temptingly cheap,

You wanna buy a Mk1 Golf Clipper Cabrio? Slightly faded paint, new wheel bearings.....

Lol

Is that my old clipper you are tootling about in...is the tank still full of crud? I used to get through fuel filters like fags. Mind you....lovely thing to drive and the alternator in these is brilliantly located with the best tightening system ever!

Could be tempted!

Alternators are quite easy to do on em fortunately.

Thankfully! Feckin alternator fell off my R8.

Rich, you and I seem to have very similar tastes in motors, we have both recently had Subaru estates, Volvo 850s, 306/309s, BXs, and now R8s (there may be more).

I too may be hitting one of these hard this year, but will be seeking out a pre '92 214Cab ForThe(£130pa RFL + cl4$$1c insurance) Win! I already have a spares car in the top field waiting...

classic insurance is a very good point old chap

I sawe one of these in Edinburght he other day and was asking the owner about the weather proofing in what was a horrible storm - he let me get inside and it was drier than a camel's fanny...after some convertibles I have driven that is a major plus point.

Mrs S is on at me to get a Saab convertible which are pretty cheap - for a runabout in the summer but I just feel they are a bit 25 year old med rep (apologies to any 25 year old med reps out there) the 200 has FAR MORE shite credentials and is also a lot cheaper to run.

BTW looks like that old Rover 820 might be coming north so fleet is going to be brilliantly angular with a BX, 740 Estate and an 800 - just a shame its not a Mk1 800! I haven't had a pre 2000 Rover before ansd sort of feel that it is the shitter's patriotic duty to own one shite electrics or not -

I keep getting the occasional urge for a convertable although I had a mate with Cort16 syndrome who got rid of his after a month because he "thought people were looking at him" and as he was in a bloody yellow Megane convertable he was probably right!

The 200 cabrios I've seen have all been really scruffy and frankly shit not shite

Escorts haven't been much better either.

I have been supprised by the price of Audi convertables lately.

Ignore the "Deals on Wheels" scrawl on the screen, this is on autotrader for £675!

Who was it on here with an Escort cabrio for sale?
