Here we have the infamous Breezeblock, a Scania N113CRL, an ex demo that ended up with Rider Leeds in the 'Superbus' fleet for use on the Scotthalls & Garforths. It had 2 steps up into the cab, as you sat on top of the fuel tank, which needed to be big, as Scanias like a drink. It originally had large square headlamps, but after a smash, parts could not be sourced, so boggo BMAC indicators and cheapo round headlamps were bodged to fit. It was fairly fast, but not that nice to drive, and yes the bodywork was built by those masters of style, East Lancashire Coachbuilders, to a Scandinavian design

Arriva in Glasgow have a few of them, I've been on the one is Leeds. Travel Dundee have one too

They're called the ELC Maxci

The MaxCis and indeed Arriva are gone from Glasgow; Dundee's MaxCi is gone too.

Arriva Scotland had low floor MaxCis as well as step entrance ELC Europeans, Alexander Striders and NCME Paladins, of which two (MaxCi L25 LSX and Paladin L588 JSG) were ex-demonstrators.

The Leyland Lynx was a bit of a fugly beast, and Preston Corpy didn't do this one any favours styling wise. Ended up with Tatty Travel (Tate's) in Barnsley I believe

No photos or MOT/loss of contract, plus start price around half scrap value means it's clearly fucked

That looks like something from a Jerry Anderson production.

Hey, that Metrorot is a pretty early one (ex LT M57). It could do with saving but I assume it's very lace curtains underneath by now.

The Electric Leyland National, seen here on the busway at Runcorn Shopping City - At the rear is the trailer with the batteries in & at the front is the  breakdown tow truck

Trailer by Dyson, don't ya know. Also an ex Bradford Trolleybus traction motor. Still exists, that does. But not the bus. Thankfully. It was a complete abortion that refused to work. Waste of a good short National ( and Ribbles only short one at the time).

Time to resurrect this thread, this 1929 Dennis is still in use by its current owner Buckland's Coaches of Woodbridge in Suffolk, saw it the other week on a wedding, and yesterday it was being used on tours of Felixstowe

Look what I found last week - only a bloody Quest 80! It had the rubbish Ford engine and chain drive nonsense sacked off long ago in favour of a Cummins B-series. Needs a windscreen before it can go back into service.

Same chap also has this Duple Caribbean complete with original rearlights made of pure unobtainium

The interior is a symphony in brown - all original and in amazing condition considering it's been used on schools

It's the open weekend at the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum this weekend. Is anybody else planning to go?

Holy hell! I thought those dupes were extinct! Nice find on the Quest. Jonkeere piccolo body,I think. The Cummins was a common replacement for the drivetrain, I think it more likely a b series as there'd be no room for an L10. Strangely enough, it was the Ford engine and gearbox that usually caused the trouble, not the chain drive, although it was a pretty rudimentary set up. (The wonderfully rare and interesting Bedford JJL minibus also used a chain drive but was a bit better engineered)

Missed out on a Reve Burges bodied Quest 80 about 10 years ago complete with side engine, chain drive and all but I had no where to put it. Regrets and all that..

I've heard on the grapevine that an Edinburgh Corpy atlantean has bought the farm this evening after hitting a low bridge

Posted

Its a preserved bus that hit the bridge, an E reg'd Leyland PDR1 Atlantean that had been restored to original condition

Whoops, I had L10s on the brain after reading the truck shite thread, it does have a B-series out of a Leyland Roadrunner. You're right about the body, the chassis was called the J-type as it was a joint venture between Quest and Jonckheere. The owner of this one used to work for an operator who loved Fords and also had three or four Quest VMs! I reckon this might be the only J left but there's a VM and a B-type preserved.

I've seen the only surviving Bedford JJL too but it's on a 35mm print and I haven't found that album to scan yet.

Any idea which one?

I'm hoping to go to the Lathalmond open day on Sunday if anyone is about.

Bugger, probably on its way to the open weekend I mentioned above.

JJLs were about 8 years too early for success. Dennis took the concept in 87, made it a bit simpler and ta-da! One Dennis Dart! Managed to drive a JJL and found it a wonderfully refined beast for what it was, even with a four cylinder engine. The body was styled by Wayne Cherry and based on a motor home concept he had been working on at the time. It deserved to have been a success if it was put into production proper. Alas only 8 were built as Bedford thought there wasn't a market for it. If only they knew what was to happen only a few years later.

Sad to hear about the Atlantean. Depends on the damage but I'm sure it can be rebuilt. Check out Bounemouth Trolleybus 297. That hit a low bridge in France when we were taking it to Checkoslovakia (don't ask!). It isn't as good as it was (a real concourse restoration job- on a Trolleybus) but it turned out pretty well.
