Poor tired old things that probably needed retiring! There were a few late 90s ones that weren't much better. National Express run hybrids up here. Weird things, where the engine sounds like it's grumbling away in a huff at the back. Nippy though.

daveb47 Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Used to work for Colchester corporation transport in the 60s as a breakdown fitter.,They had a rare old collection in those days.Old Crossleys,Daimlers,Aec & Albion single cab.leyland single deckers many of which had no windscreen demising or anything.Also had a few Atlantean & bristol re.

It's a model of a COMMER AVENGER chassis . ( Me Dad said that, and he knows everyfink about buses !! ) Other than that I know nothing about it , but one day I'll restore it. The front axle was broke,but me old Dad has made another.. most of the rest i have in a box.. It's all rivited Alooominum chassis rails, wooden engine block ,copper and ali for other parts ..Exquisite ain't it ?? I learnt and took my test in an Olympian (my examiner was the guy who drove The Knight Bus from Harry Potter to the premiere in Leicester Sq). I was lucky enough to pass my test and get 4 months driving the Routemasters with a conductor before they were replaced by the single-crewed Wright Eclipse Gemini. At the time the Routemasters were taken out of service they were offered to us drivers for £2,000 a week which would have been deducted weekly from our wages. Sealtainn Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Damn my sausage fingers They were selling them for £2,000 with payments deducted weekly from our wages, I've seen them going for £10,000-£15,000.Used to have an average take-home of £450 a week, more on the weeks when you did split shifts so you did a couple of runs in morning rush hour and a couple in the evening with a 4 hour break in the middle. That was 10 years ago, not sure what sort of money they get these days

MarvinsMom Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 london transport have retained i think 8 for use on one tourist route through the city centre, for now, cos some pack of toss pot wheel chair fellas don't like having to wait 5 minutes for another new bus, which also run on the same route, so they are threatening to sue, so those last 8 busses may be living on borrowed time....

The bloody things were out dated even when launched. Only kept on the road by pots of tax payers money, and operated by a militant dictatorship

Absolutely fucked after only a few hours driving it. How they did full day shifts in these God only knows chaseracer, brickwall, cms206 and 1 other 4
