  1. Context? Me wanting it is all the context needed🤣
  2. No. That's usually what you say to me any time I share a car I am considering purchasing...
  3. Croinsoint 🥸 Chodspeed For the benefit of anyone viewing this thread, @jaypeefound this car all by himself. I had no input🤣
  4. After a fair bit of fuckery from the garage that supplied the dynamo for the Oxford (e.g. telling me to come in and they would test it there and then, but then wanting to book in a slot..) We settled on it being a regulator issue. A new one was fitted. I checked output at idle at the garage : 13.35v ideal. Got home (about 5 miles) checked again at idle: Hmmm Switched it off and had my tea, went back out later to shuffle cars: At idle, full beam on 13.5v At idle, dip beam on 14.6v At idle no lights on 16v Ats no right... Going to have to read up on how to adjust the regulator. Can't be arsed taking it back to the garage as they were a pain.
  5. Stuck an injector in it (supplied by @dome ), back to normal. Another one ordered and getting lobbed in the glovebox
  6. Sit rep: Tried turning the advance/retard wheel on the Oxford Dizzy. Still turned over funny but in different ways depending on where the wheel was. Still not fired. Golf - LHS headlamp bulb connector only shows 8.5/9v, not enough to get the bulb to light. Battery looks weak, alt belt or alternator screeching. Get 12.7v at idle, 13.5 when revved Now to watch the GP..
  7. Any way you could please describe this process? The Oxford dynamo (now a new refurbished unit) is still not outputting anywhere near that. Cheers
  8. That would be the burd's 🤣
  9. Got the 182 back yesterday. Fair bit of work done to it, and was driving brilliantly. Went out later to it, and its developed two new faults - a Misfire and the passenger outer door handle doesn't work. This means that- Current fleet of legal cars is: 182 - misfiring 807 - no reverse, noisy wheel bearing Elgrand - front end knocks like a junkie at his dealers door, screenwash pump inop Golf - light misfire and no blower motor Oxford - new points fitted, won't fire. So it looks like a Sunday of investigation for me.. Old cars, just don't!
  10. Got this back today. Clio Stu had fitted the new flexible high pressure power steering line. And a new pressure switch for the rack. He also found that the oil pressure switch was enfuckernaterd Apparently never seen one as bad.. it also got a new rear shock as apparently it was dripping onto his head when he went underneath. he also sorted another couple of issues. Collected it, driving lovely. No faults. Brilliant. Got home, parked up. 2hrs passes Took it out to go for a walk. Lovely walk. Clio now misfiring and occasionally flashing EML. Cheap code reader to the rescue Fucking things! And the passenger door handle has failed too. Managed not to set it on fire so far...
  11. Is the answer to " what is better than 1 Alfa?" 0 Alfas? @sdkrc thinks so🤣
  12. Ats yer gowf managed a 31 mile round trip tonight, including driving in the dark. Not super impressive, but the longest trip it has done in about a year. Nae issues. Goes like a stabbed rat. Cannae get enough of 60mph in 2nd🤣 Got an exhaust heat shield rattle, brake pedal doesn't always return, bit of a stutter just off idle, and some wind noise from the hood. Fucking brilliant fun😀🤩 Surprisingly comfortable motorway cruiser too.
  13. This is back out on hire to @stereotype, doing good work pounding the motorways of Britain. prior to it being taken, I got a part worn tyre slapped on the passenger side front After it was fitted, it feels a fair bit better with the newly balanced wheel. I've yet to finish the work started on the paint/welding, as it just sort of became the daily as the Clio disgraced itself. Obviously, I'll likely sell this to pay for the repairs to the Clio 🤣
  14. After I offered the Elgrand to @stereotype, it occurred to me that the sole available functional(ish) vehicle was the Oxford. At that point it was not starting, and seemed to be properly grumpy. Hence, it came time for the golf to make an appearance. Despite the hammer in shot (needed to shock the battery clamp bolt into coming out), we just went to the lockup and jump started it and drove it straight home. It's driving well, and managed the station shift last week with no issues. The Burd is loving coming home with the roof down and being able to drive one of her dream cars. I spent some time at the weekend adjusting the alternator belt again, giving the battery a full charge and painting the battery clamp. I also gave it a cursory check over for fluids, and set all the tyre pressures correctly. Tomorrow it's going to be out on a long run ( first of more than 10 miles each way in over a year), so we will see how that goes. On Saturday we have a family event, so I think we'll need to get it cleaned out, rear seat refitted and give it a good wash before heading to that.
  15. First run out in the Oxford with new dynamo. No squealing Starts fine on half choke with new fuelling, settles down to happy idle off choke after a minute. Pulls well in all gears, doesn't feel as boggy as it used to. Horn works Wipers not working Blower doesn't work Fuel gauge not working. Suspect the switched fuse is a bit cranky/poor contacts
  16. Had a bit of a decent weekend car wise so far- getting things done to the cars I own for once.. Spent Friday night getting the Oxford back into the position of being the "turn key" spares car. Elgrand washed, fueled, emptied of shite and tyres done ready for @stereotype to borrow it again. Golf battery out and on charge, alternator belt tightened. Battery clamp cleaned, primed and pentit. It's now the defacto Daily driver, and is on station duty. Took the wheel for the 807 to @sdkrc, and got it fitted. I bought it off hime a while back but lent it back to him due to the Alfa having a hissy fit. Also managed to buy a bargain strimmer (£17.60!) So the grass got its first cut of the year. Nae bad progress.
  17. Things I have learned whilst working on the Oxford yesterday: You need 4 things for an engine to run- spark, air, fuel and COMPRESSION. the last of these can be achieved by ensuring that the spark plugs are tight. That 35 year old drive belt won't tension, even with the dynamo at the limit of its adjustment. The car, once fired, will only continue to run if you re-attach the positive wire to the fuel pump. The fusebox is fitted with an anti-theft device Thatchcam would be proud of. Waggling it may allow for some contact, and an ignition light. Learning the skill of the correct waggle is akin to becoming a master of a martial art, such is the control and finesse required. New spark plug leads come with a fibre core - using some sort of voodoo witchcraft to shove the electrons from coil to cap, and then onto plugs. I only fitted a new king lead, and could feel my flat cap forefathers looking down in disappointment. It's a fucking ace car and the happiest of all mechanical things whilst running.

BUMP FOR A REEL FRED Someone need to buy this
  19. @EyesWeldedShut sorry. Our mum had one back in the day, with the daft robotised manual. Drove it several times, always having to press the accelerator about 1 second before you wanted to move. Comfortable and good access through the massive doors. They have a honda Jazz hybrid now, a much better car in every conceivable metroc
  20. That's the cheats route! Have done Glasgow to Riga via Stockholm in 3 days. Going down to Dover to cross. Wouldn't want to miss the bridge to Malmö
  21. I honestly think it's between this one and @Lacquer Peel's one for best car bought by a mate in the last year. @Supernaut's one would have been in with a chance, but it was too grumpy too soon (I'm telling myself this so I don't buy it!)
  22. All hail the mighty Rexton! Many thanks to @Lacquer Peel for his excellent Clio moving services. First up, collect the super shiny and fully metal burd's Clio 172 from @GingerNuttz. First time seeing it in the flesh - it looks fucking superb! Take it to where the 182 was sitting after disgracing itself by blowing a power steering line. Remove 172, swap with 182 Drop 182 at tame Clio fettler It's in the queue and will get done. Then take up as much car park as possible whilst going for lunch. Been a good wee day TOWday🤣
