White car - Renault R8?

I hope that's a soft drink like coke they are drinking in front of the Temperance Building Society.

I wonder how those shite sixties porches have lasted on the front of those nice Victorian terraced houses?

J2 is one I didn't think off. I reckon you are correct :D

I suggested Taunus Transit but they have vents on the rear. And obviously weren't sold in the UK

Not being able to see the bottom of the van didn't help...

I think the red van might be a Morris J2; they had a single rear door. The white car is a Renault 10.

The German coppers in their scruffy white jackets manage to look like rather seedy barbers or waiters.

I think the model of BMW saloon (the green one) that was a police car was in my book of Eye-Spy cars about fifty years ago. I still haven't seen one on the road even today. Mind you I gave up hope of getting the points at least three years ago.

Another thing I noticed was the armco on the central reservation of the autobahn. How much longer did it take before they realised it's usefulness in the UK?

No wonder we won the war if they were using radar to catch speeding motorists whilst we were using it to spot their incoming planes.

Another great effort Vin, thanks for all the hard work.

I was getting pissed off that every BMW 501 in my 'archives' had normal front doors, until I found that

It's one of only 2 built!

Ah bliss, take the signs for the city centre, follow them a couple of hundred meters and you'll get to the house I grew up in. A lovely house but a friggin awful place to live with exhaust fumes coming in through the windows whenever you opened them, fire engines keeping you up until ungodly o'clock and the fact that you couldn't normally park within 200 meters of the house (sometimes it'd take longer to get to the car then the journey itself).

Keep 'em coming!

This one is very relevant to me, I spent some time surveying the tower block visible in the background only a couple of months ago. What’s visible as a smaller top-storey has now gone and is just four columns poking up in the air above the 10th floor. I didn’t realise there had previously been a structure up there, had been told it was planned for something that wasn’t built.

Buildings on this street otherwise little changed.

Fascinating to see cars crawling through narrow streets that are now very much for pedestrians only.

Regarding the BMW 501, is that what this one I saw at Medler’s was?

It looks a lot like a 501, SL. I wonder if they officially sold them here or whether that one was a personal import.

Carlisle hump shunt yard again. Although history has shown the hump shunt yards that were dotted around the country to be white elephants, they didn't half look impressive. I have the BTF film showing how Sheffield Tinsley worked - seemed to use ticker tape, pressure pads and two way radio. You could sort and divide the wagons to create a train in 8 minutes. Containers became the WINNAR though.

All the wagons single wagons are mobile - they've been sent over the hump.

Oh Wow - St. Stephens Street. :D That tower has been sold iirc with possible redevelopment in mind.

The old Pearl Assurance House (above the blue Transit) was taken down and rebuilt in 2006. It is now a New Look & Slaters store.

This magnificent Leyland Atlantean is called a Gay Hostess. Stop sniggering at the back. They were operated on Lancashire-London express services and elsewehere by RIbble Motors and its two subsidiaries, Standerwick and (as here) Scout. Very luxurious, wih in-flight meals and air suspension.

Info about the only surviving example here:
