Love this Jeep :?::?: Army surplus I assume, with 'coachbuilt' body 8)

vlcsnap-2012-01-22-20h11m49s34.png

It does look like the front end of a flat-fender (WW2 or 40's CJ2) with a custom body but I think the inspiration may have come from the 50's Jeepster Commando

I was thinking, those cars were about 50 years old at the time....the equivalent of us looking at Mk1 Cortinas, A60s and Triumph Heralds now.

Fabscinating stuff - that Norfolk bloke has got a nice collection!

More look at life.

From September 1962 'The village sleeps again' is all about the building of by-passes around towns and villages.

I looked at this and thought "why is there a bath on the pedestrian crossing?" - I think I need new glasses.

Lovely stuff, keep em coming - I am waiting for the one where I realise I knew someone who had a pictured car, or even better, a car that I used to own.

I've been using VLC media player. When you pause the film and left click, it gives the option of taking a screen shot.

'Turn of the wheel' is dated April 1964.

It's about new transport and what is being done with that that is being replaced. There isn't much shite, but there is enough in the way of trains, trams and buses to be of interest...

Top shots as ever Vin... very interesting from a railway perspective.

[train bore] interesting too see a Castle class going so far north to get chopped up (unless the scrapyard was darn sath[/train bore]

I love the "that'll do" attitiude to the pullman carriages, trailers not short enough but some rail should make up the difference... It's funny how the 20s pullmans were withdrawn and binned only to reappear when their successors in the Blue Pullman barely made a decade before they become gilettes finest.

Those Wynns units are beastly.

The film just specifies the loco line up as Carlisle. The other scrapyard and gas-axing shots were probably eleswhere - Swindon maybe....

I always thought the Wynns Pacifics were fantastic things.

What makes them interesting to me is, that like the Diamond Ts that Wynns used, the Pacifics were also ex-WW2 hardware, but Wynns had to do a lot more work to 'civilianise' them.

Another update. I'll leave 'Look at Life' for the moment while I work out which of those I haven't done have good old car content.

This update is a bit more recent, 1984 to be precise. I'm a big fan of Bill Forsyth films and my copy of 'Comfort and Joy' is ripe for the screengrab treatment.

The film stars the always excellent Bill Paterson, as a DJ on local Glasgow radio, who gets caught up in an ice-cream war between two rival Italian families. As well as a good share of old motors, there are lots of shots with sweets and goodies in the background. I thought they'd be of interest so I've included them. And shots of Clare Grogan. Looking lovely. :D

Bit of motorway at dusk. The 3-series Baur convertible belongs to Bill Paterson's character.

The fact that Tayne has produced a 'Hirst family tree' has made me pleased that I asked an innocent question, about a Japanese car ...:lol: I love AS :D:D

I can only take credit for putting the image in this thread, Hirst created that family tree.

 I realised that Tayne, I should have said posted rather than produced. The work of Hirst is always good to see.

This is update is another from 1984. ‘The Chain’ is a film all about removal men and the joys of moving house.

It’s funny and has a great cast. Lots of shite in it too. Including quite a bit of Sherpa action.
