Snog Marry Avoid, Autoshite style

I had the misfortune to catch half an episode of this old crap on UK ArseTV or summat, but whilst the show was pants, I've decided to put it into an AS context. A limit of about £5k for the first two catagories....well, to start with anyway.

So, Snog - Something you'd like to have a go in, but isn't suitable for "everyday" - like the barmaid with the big knockers and a bad reputation.

Marry - ANything you like, that would be your daily and keep for 25 years.

Avoid - Wouldn't touch it with someone elses, either for reliability reasons, ugliness, or potential for expenditure.

Pictures would be good.....

Heres mine:

TVR Chimera, up for £5k BIN, so many potential issues, such hideous fuel consumption rules it out as a daily.

Duesenberg, preferably the SJ...

The grey one was manual, so it would have to be the blue one, which I had for 3 years. I avoid grey, I avoid manual gearboxes; but a pale blue automatic would be a perfect companion for many many years.

Beautiful, quirky, but probably sooooo high maintenance. A brief dalliance is probably best.

A nice Sierra would be ideal for long term commitment. Probably all the car you could ever need, Autoshite style. A nice 4x4 estate would be what I'd aim for.

AVOID:

Lagonda3.jpg

In theory, the ultimate car. In practice, probably unable to convey you between two towns without needing a grand's worth of repairs afterwards. Or needing towed.

Didn't stick to the 5K limit, as I couldn't be arsed looking up values.

Marry: Another excuse to post this up. Not only would I wed this, I'd slip some rohypnol into the tank, invite it to the local petrol station for a few drinks then ride it like the bitch that it is. It wouldn't get away either, I'd tie it up in the garage then parade it like a trophy wife at a staitonary suppliers work's do. It'd be a bit like that weird nerdy fella you work with, everyone would expect him to bring his wheelchair bound mum to the party and he'd actually turn up someone who made the FITTEST girl in the world look like Thora Hird...

Snog: Hmm, this I think. I'd want to marry it but it'd quickly turn into the nightmare bride who'd rob you of all your money and then run off with the bloke from the scrapyard before having a facelift in China and end up actually becoming a Hongddu Knobscratch 125 sports...

Avoid:

This, because like that old tart you met one night then actually jumped out of her bedroom window to avoid any horizontal jogging action as she turned out to have been round the block with everyone on your council estate. This car is a SLAG. A dirty tramp. A whore. You want it but you know it'll be rubbish....

Do you know, I have always wanted one of these, well any kind of XJ-6 if I'm honest.

But I daren't. Fuel consumption & horrific bills just frighten me off.

Until I started frequenting this place it had never occurred to me that these were so unbelievably cheap.

I really ought to buy one and keep it for the shortest time known to man,

a weeks holiday in the Cotswolds or the Highlands or something equally English.

I am coming around to the view that the W124 estate will tick all my motoring boxes & could possibly see me out.

The vehicles that I currently run all require "driving" & I'm not convinced that I'll always need to do that,

I may need to waft. & I don't see how you can waft properly with a 7 speed auto box, much happier with just 4.

Avoid;

I particularly despise these and all other similar heavyweight soft roaders with a passion.

In a few years they will sell for pennies & I for one will not be purchasing a small lorry, no matter how cheap.

You really don't need to be scared of a good X300. Mine's the headcase steroid one and it's not given me any real grief. Yes, it'll need a few hundred quid throwing at it in the near future but that's really not that bad when it's shocks, bushes and wheel arch repairs. To service it myself costs about £50, doing it properly. £100 if it needs plugs and pollen filters etc.

Even fixing the bloody clock is just a case of searching the interwebs and researching it. Not hard.

Jag cocked electrical bits up massively with the XJ40, Ford put it right with the X300, if mine is anything to go by.

A normally aspirated 3.2 will do 18 mpg in town if you don't drive it like a tit. 28-30 is possible on a run. 4.0 does around the same mpg. Mine drinks in comparison because it's supercharged, and they're not good for economy at part load. Mine's virtually the same on fuel at a steady 70 as it is as a steady 120 because of the bloody great charger whizzing around. Does make a massive difference to the way the thing goes though.

My W124 needed more spending on it than the XJR does, but they are a much more useable car. The XJ interior makes me very careful about getting it dirty. My old W124 had leather but of a much more wipe-clean nature!

That Grand Scénic has the original factory fitted Xenon headlights. I'd marry it for that. As long as it's not a dCi

Honestly!? A few seconds! I took that picture last month, I see the car quite often, it's driven by one of Northern Ireland's MPs hahaha :)

The above is a pic to represent anything from the vag stable, with a select few 80's audis.

I should love the C6 but I'm finding it really difficult to. The interior is just so Peugeot 407....
