I know you shouldnt immidiatly assume its been nicked for racing but the odds are very very high thats why it was done. I just hope it gets returned to its owner before it gets trashed and the scum bag responsible gets their bollocks stamped on!

 

I must admit I dont ever use mine anymore for anything where it may end up parked up, unattended by myself, for fear of it being pinched! Its sad I feel the need to be like that with it, and not be able to use it as any other car but thats how it is nowadays!

That's why I don't think it would be a particularly bad idea to ban the "sport" or banger racing. I love motorsport, I freaking do, but the best thing about motorsport is the skill that is displayed by the participants in an effort NOT to destroy the cars they're driving whilst going as fast as possible. Why someone would spend up to £1500 to fix up a supposedly rotten car only then to destroy it is beyond me, heck I work at a college for young adults with learning disabilities and I'm sure if I explained it to most of the students they'd say that it doesn't make sense.

It does happen, I had a lovely 2.5 Essex and manual box I was using in Mark one Granadas for racing nicked. A tip off from a local chap (know to me as squirrel) managed to trace it to a road going mark two transit LWB about a mile from my place also had a 2 litre Pinto go missing. Dispite involving plod I wasn't able to recover the Essex engine due to some nonesense. So balance wise I am 2 - 0 down

If they only raced cars that "wont survive anyway due to its diminished state" then you would have a good point. But when you hear of them spending over a grand on a MOT'd car which quite likely has been restored for them to go and wreck it then your point is rather diminshed.

 

I have nothing against banger racing personally, I think it looks quite fun and would enjoy watching a race but not if it involved classic vehicles.

 

Anyway hope the car is found as having your property stolen can't be pleasant!

I think its more of a reflection on modern society. There doesnt seem to be any benefit in being law abiding, polite or respectful anymore. In fact it's viewed as a weakness.

I took a 5000 mile, one elderly owner Metro and thrashed it to death in less than a month.

 

I had a similar situation with a mk2 Cav auto that I racked up the miles and abused until it was worse than average.

 

Neither of those cars are particularly rare in themselves but their pre-Warren condition made them less common than a Farina.

Is this thread not exactly the same as every thread there has been on this subject since the beginning of time and probably every other thread that will occur about this in the future.

 

The only difference is that it was not Pog who made an (probably slightly drunken) offensive comment as he no longer posts here.....

 

So I will post pretty much what I always post as its better than tidying the house or revision.

 

A few people who are banger racers might steal cars to race, some people who are not might steal cars to ring export or strip, some people might buy cars to race before they get scrapped, others buy them to restore but leave them to rot.

 

Until they put some regulations in place a small minority will exploit the fact that they can race stolen cars, in the same way some bastard probably sold my entire CD collection to Cash Converters a few years back.

If you are seriously using your google search as validation for your original error please note that you should also have used an upper case B on boots.

In the context that you used it, that being boots of a type worn by riggers, no capital is warrented.

I do hope that nobody is suggesting I made an immature comment... speaking as one who has suffered at the hands of the "Itinerant Heather Selling Caravan Utilising Tarmac Supplying Sofa Selling Travellers", and also would-be very banger racers, I can speak with knowledge. I have had a rare and bloody heavy axle stolen. It was saved off a scrapped Land Rover for me. It was a 4.7:1 ENV Rear axle, that had been fitted to an original 1969 1 ton. Worth nothing to most people, but unburstable and heavy. It would have been at least a three man lift, and would not have been a quick process across a rockery. I do hope they dropped it on their feet. At least once. It might have netted about £20 at Booth's. I have had my current Land Rover broken into recently. £25 worth of damage, and they took precisely nothing. It was more annoying because I had JUST the previous week fitted more secure and rainproof door window frames..... My Sierra has been tried.... I have a broken plastic door handle to show for their efforts. I have had a Fiesta Diesel stolen too. Found at a local travellers' site. I recovered it by walking in and taking it back in full view.....!!! When I lived in Lincoln, I was plagued by knocks on the door late at night. "I'll give you £30 for a runner matye, I need a banger for a race next month." Not for sale. I come home from work the next day.... bonnets up, and 2 cylinder heads missing!! One was a 205 injection head with manifolds on! It WAS a good engine until then. They chopped the loom instead of unclipping stuff. SO YES. I might come across as a little bitter, but I shouldn't have to fight people for the right to keep my stuff at my home. Next one that tries to take something is going to get a surprise.... crowbar/cranium interface. Yup, I'd do time for it....

From your post it sounds like the same as what I was saying. The are just some theiving gits out there. Some might be racers, most probably aren't. Some git robbed an imp gearbox off my drive after I left it outside for an hour a couple of years back. The gits. I am guessing it wad unlikely to be someone going past who just happened to need one.

 

I am aways a bit scared too once I have had the Irish asking about my cars mind you. However I have thankfully not had one lifted yet. Touch wood. I wish someone would nick Paulas bike from my back garden though. It's doing my head in. I might just stick it on ebay and pretend its been taken.
