Laguna Advice

Been asked by a work colleague about his Laguna. It 1.9 DCI sport.

He parked it up because he had an issue with one of the tyres. Got that sorted but now it wont start. It turns over and there is fuel getting to the injectors but just wont start. it is a bit beyond my knowledge.

Any ideas what it might be?

Some sort of immobiliser issue? I don't know about the newer Renners, but the older cars had volatile memory, so disconnecting the battery for an hour used to cure many an ill. Might be worth a pop?

1.9 dCis shit themselves all the time.

If it is an immobiliser issue, the little red light on the dash will flash rapidly as the car is trying to start.

S'alright R9UKE - there's another one where a brand new VW 4x4 thing gets totalled by FOUR tanks. Sort of makes up for it. Shame it wasn't a BMW X6, with driver at the wheel, but you can't have everything.

Really does amaze me that here, where we love shite cars, the Renault Laguna II gets as warm a reception as Nick Griffin at a curry house. (or the English Defence League in Tower Hamlets - topical news reference. Well. Sort of. It was yesterday and their Plaxton Paramount coach broke down).

Frag it! You wouldn't see a MK2 Fiesta XR2 on a back of Cargo like that these days!!

Excellent. Shame they couldn't take out a tailgater in his glitzy LED lighted white A4 at the same time....

Very good !

I will get him to try battery and also look at the light in the dash. Then get him to weigh it in! I think what annoys him that it was working until he parked it up to sort the tyre out.

What year is the car? I had an early Petrol Laguna and I could get around the immoboliser on that but they're more sophisticated on later cars.

Is it local?

I think I'm the only shiter on here who actually liked owning a mk2 Laguna.

I'd even buy another if one came up at the right money.

Nah you're not. I've had 5 this year. Love them and their tendancy to fail in any way possible :)

Before being allowed to purchase any Renault, you should be made to firstly replace a fat arse Megane headlamp bulb in the dark on the hard shoulder, then a Clio 2 182 timing belt at the side of the road, then finally an Espace clutch master cylinder wherever you like. Only then have you understood the fine engineering that goes into these vehicles and you are considered worthy of owning one.

If you do actually buy one after this you will be sectioned.

I still piss myself at the little key they give you inside the card thingy. Its like they just know....

If it's the one in the photo, then it's a phase2 mk1 Laguna. These have always seemed okay, usually the ones I see in scrapyards have huge mileage. The Laguna II gets the reception it does because it was the car that scuppered Renault's reputation - along with the reliability of the Megane II. Renault introduced some fabulous technology with it, but were developed and put together as cheaply as possible. I genuinely think they've changed - but despite some good reviews, they'll never shift any more medium sized hatches unless they give it a new name. The Laguna name was effectively written off in 2001. Still, there's a hell of a lot of Laguna II with big mileages on them. . .love to see how big the bills are in their service histories

Even doing it on a beautiful day in the comfort of my driveway, it makes me want to kill myself. I love how in the owners manual, under the bulb changing section, it says "Consult your Renault dealer".

I'm always checking Laguna IIs for this badge. I'd buy another in a heartbeat, what a wolf :D

Yup, and there always open at 2.45 in the morning, and there's one every 100 yards who will rush out to assist when a heandlamp blows in the dark...............and rain. I

I love the thought and planning that went into this. The little hole that you could put a key ring on is at the end which goes into the slot. GENIUS

Thing that amuses me is that most of Continental Europe insists you carry spare bulbs yet manufacturers seem to thrive on making the bloody things nigh on impossible to change without a comprehensive tool kit, plasma cutter, four post ramp and six hours labour.

Some of the stuff we've got in work it just insane for it. I'm sure to replace a headlamp bulb on some modern cars the HBoL would start with "Remove back bumper, tailgate, seats, dashboard..."
