Ill be there on sunday, although only as a passenger

Nope. The great 2CV v Amazon battle is 100% off (as I don't think Wat's taking it anyway). Complete financial meltdown means my 2CV won't be getting its second run up the hill this year. I've had to reluctantly pull out.

I was going to go, but now that the weekend is upon us I honestly can't be arsed. I just don't have the energy at the moment to drive that kind of distance just for one day.

I'd go but I think I'd only be able to cope with a morning before the cliquey scene type nonsense would provoke me into indiscriminate acts of violence. There's only so much lowering and goofy wheels a man can reasonably be expected to cope with in a day.

the usual at-the-bottom of England?

Wouldn't say its exactly at the bottom. I only live thirty miles from there and I wouldn't say I am a southerner!!

Money + distance + can't be arsed + the cat is about to give birth  = I'm not going either.

+1; who the hell wants to waste fuel on a 200+ mile round trip to what is TBH, a very average show? A 'gathering'? Prententious much?

Anyway, I'm saving my dough for Goodwood Revival, now THATs worth the trip.

I'd go if it was nearer. There are some bloody good people on RR and you can always just ignore anyone you might not like.

I link up with the good eggs in different ways 'off camera'; the chaff don't register much more than an annoyance on the radar, at least not compared to the 'Blitzonian' scale.

Might pop down this afternoon as it is a nice day for a drive!

Im here right now. Really good mix of cars so glad I came (although I wish I'd brought the Bluebird)

Sums it up well. I've thoroughly enjoyed every gathering I've been to. A gathering is a group of people getting together. What's pretentious about that? RR people tend to be exceedingly friendly and open, unlike some other very-cliquey groups or clubs. I'm genuinely disappointed that I'm not able to attend.

You might want to actually read my reply? Jeez. Don't throw a wobbler, Dolly...

Mind you , 'gathering also means this:

gath·er·ing (gr-ng)

1.

a. The action of one that gathers.

b. That which is gathered or amassed; a collection or accumulation.

2. An assembly of persons; a meeting.

3. The collecting of food that grows wild, such as berries, roots, and grains.

4. A gather in cloth.

5. A suppurated swelling; a boil or abscess.

Sorry, I just get fed up with people complaining about RR. Seems to happen A LOT. I care not if people don't like it - quite a lot of people still do. I don't spend much time there now, but I don't go on about how 'wrong' it is.

I do agree that the Revival is well worth a visit, but it's like comparing a scooter with a space shuttle really - neither one pretends to be the other.

Same here, tbh. I really enjoyed going to the gathering, but mainly for the camping and saturday social antics than the actual "show" itself. I would have enjoyed myself had I gone this year too, I'm sure of it, but I can't afford it, and Mrs S won't leave the cat.

Your sentiment seems pretty clear cut but regardless stop moaning about RR and the RR staff it's friggin' boring. Why don't you go google some cool Retro-style cars, or hotlink a stanceworks feature HA!

^^^^^ Or alternatively FRO altogether? Theres another option for you to consider.

ha, that bloke sent me the to the wrong place too even though I had a stand pass. I even went past 2 other 'organisers' with my pass clearly on view and they pointed me in the direction of the hill parking area.

I got out and thought this can't be right so asked a more official looking fella (high vis!) and he said, nope - you should be down there.

So I had to fight my way up this gravelly hill climb and then bloody queue up again.

Still, once in it was great!

Hmm... If the jobsworth on the gate was acting as security then I hope he's SIA registered and not just a friend of the shows organiser who fancies himself as a bouncer. :?:

Well I was there for the weekend and had an amazing time. As per the last time I went (2008) it was full of friendly social people just there to have fun. Lots of little parties squeezed under gazebos and everyone just joining in and welcome. I just left the keys in my car and if anyone wanted to take it out for a spin they were quite welcome and I had no worries about it coming back. Met loads of folk I didn't know on the forum but now know in real life.

Sunday at the hill climb was just amazing. It really ended the weekend on a massive high and the show was huge too. Mixture of shite, retros, race, newish stuff and hotrods in the field. For £10 on the gate it was a bargain of a day out in my opinion. Best bit was getting to go up the hill as a passenger in people's cars who I'd met over the weekend.

hotwire empolyed a nazi to man the gate?

wonder if it was a close relative of the dictator, or organiser

I went a couple of years ago to the one down at the haynes museum. I went down on my own from scotland and I have to say most was mega friendly and chatted away even though Ihad no idea who anyone was. It's just one of those thing that everyone there like cars so there's a common denominator. Sure there was a couple of people there I didn't take to but on the whole it was really friendly given I turned up to a field full of people I didn't know on my own.

There's some stuff on RR that does my head in but some of the readers rides stuff is just awesome.

Little Hitlers can be a nightmare. I've helped organise events only to find people have gone absolutely mad with the power of a flashing light on their car, or the fluorescent jacket. Yet there was a clear issue from HotWire there, that he apologised for on the forum. As an event organiser, I know how easily that sort of thing can happen. Events are a nightmare to run! I'm glad people still do it.
