OH crap......

Went the storage a couple of weeks ago, and there was some bloke taping notices to the gate, office portacabin, storage containers and other bits of the site. To cut a long story short, seems the landowner has no planning permission for any of the business activities on the site. Come to think of it, no permission what so ever as some of the (20 or so) contravention notices mentioned 2 occupied mobile homes and an original (water works) building that had been converted into a domestic dwelling. So, it looks like all of the 6 businesses on site are on borrowed time, as I personally doubt they will get planning permission if there's contravention notices served.

Anybody know where I can put 4 lutons, 5 vans, a pick up, a crewcab beavertail, 2 ambies and six cars? Cheap!

The notice comes into force on monday, an appeal has been lodged but fook knows how long we've got.....

I'll just leave this Volvo where it is for now then :(

Sounds awful, hope you get it sorted.

Yeak sorry scary as you can see l am a bit preoccupied at the mo. More than a bit miffed too with the landlord! Not that l am on my own in thisg

that is a bummer :(

you could always go and find one of those illegal traveller sites where they bought a greenfield and ask them how come they stay for years on end and just lodge an appeal everytime it gets close to eviction.

There is one round the corner from me and the bloody council even ran freshwater and lecky services to the bloody field. Meanwhile it has been tarmaced and the occupants are showing no sign of shifting.

Human Rights innit?

I don't think you can extend this to include your Right to keep a shed full of old Transits though.

Hope you get it sorted, Fred.

crapola-matic. Finding places to store all your grot in the UK is a nightmare - I bet if it was France or somewhere someone would have a massive barn to chuck it all in... sorry, I'm not helping

FRAG THEM.

After locking you in the back of one.

In this overcrowded mess of a country you're doing well if you've space to keep a pushbike. Only thing I can think of is one of the former petrol station sites we see so many of, often still displaying sub quid prices to annoy us, usually end up used for hand car wash operations, I assume such sites take ages to sell as they'll need some serious work to remove the underground tanks and decontaminate etc. so must be rented out fairly cheaply to keep Mr. Vladimer and his 6 Serbian sponge monkeys in vodka.

Well nice to see nice comments made from only people worth listening to.

Not a bad idea about old petrol stations, but in the London area even those are worth paying money to have cleaned up, as they tend to be in prime areas worth building on. I do remember a great one we were working at, trouble is it's in Luton!

When I lived in Luton I had one car vandalised and another broken into. Unless the vans are in full view of your house and you're watching at the window at all times, I wouldn't leave anything there.

If you want to tell me where it is, I can have a look to see if it's in a dodgy area, or a very dodgy area for you.

This might sound bloody daft, but have you considered one of the Studios? Pinewood had a huge empty car-park for years..... Shepperton?

Posted

Hmmm Pinewood has it's detractions, but Shepperton might not be a bad idea. Can't remember exactly where that petrol station was, but it HAD been on an A road but was then left marooned when the A road was re routed. I said at the time I would love to live there. ~The pumps were still live.

Surely if its gone to appeal you have a couple of months at least, especially as there's a domestic dwelling on the site. Tell em you live there and your pregnant.

Sorry for the useless comment, Fred, but I really hope you get this sorted out. Best of luck, lass.

Fred, this group are always on the lookout for somewhere to store buses. They may have some odd corners of their storage sites that aren't big enough to take a bus, but may fit in the odd Transit or three, so it could be worth contacting them:

Storage Co-ordinator; Nick Larkin

oh crap is the right title fred, im gutted for you, but too far away to be of help

Don't know if you'd explored this avenue, but if there's a haulage/warehousing company nearby, they might well be able to rent you some yard space in the short/medium term. They're not usually amenable to cluttering up the yard with other people's shite, but a) you're a business and B) 99.9% of haulage folk have a soft spot for old Transits!

Might be worth a few phonecalls?

Hard luck Fred.

Are there, by any chance, any closing/closed funeral directors premises nearby? They normally have indoor storage for limos and hearses - often hidden somewhere near the 'shop' area.

Just a thought....

some good ideas, keep em coming. Had a call from the site saying we had a letter come. Now, in 3 years I have never given the address out for post, so it's either from the council or a notice to quit  . In the circumstances I am avoiding going to read it.....

From the wording on that ad Albert I think I have already called them, the £20 mentioned was for shipping container space, so I reckon we would need maybe 9-10 of their spaces, so it's not unfortunately that cheap. I enquired about one of their sites in Wembley.

I live in Luton and I'm on the lookout for some space. PM me the details and I'll go have a poke around.

The petrol station was fantastic. On a main road that used to be an A road, but the A road was diverted leaving the gas station without any passing trade. It has a shop, workshop (that I think was let out), land round it and still had the pumps that were still in gallons, just as they were in the 80s, and they still worked! There was a compound out the back too, that still had a huge car trailer and harvey frost dolly laying in it. I might search Google Earth to see if I can spot it. We were told the owner was leaving the place deliberately empty to piss off the neighbours, but would sell one day for development (you could easily fit a large block of flats with parking on the plot). We came in one day to find somebody had spelled out DIE in the doorway of the shop in gravel from the back lot. must have taken them ages to carry it over to the concrete. Hilarious really as we were shooting a zombie film....

OK bit of an update. Bad news and good news. There's an appeal hearing planned for April, that's the bad news. The good news is we are moving yards, having seen a big yard in deepest Surrey. Deposit has been paid.

From gate, skip body is coming out  That's a 2 bedroom mobile home at the back!!

It has a 10ft fence round it and serious other security. As you can see, there's a LOT of room so there's scope for sub letting.....

That looks brill Fred, glad you managed to find a new yard. Rent space to Surrey based shitters?

Posted

yes indeed :D as soon as all is safely gathered in l will have an idea of what room will be to spare

Posted

That looks like Arthur Daleys car lot!, You need to fill it up with a load of old Chevettes and Capris with "£499" splashed across the windscreens.

Posted
 nooo! Will be shortly be filled with transits! I have already accepted the offer of a mk1 coming off a job......
