How can I avoid mould?

The Honda had been sitting for 4-5 days when I went to clean the interior yesterday, and there was a bit of mould on the floormat on the passenger side as well as the carpet below it. It's alright after brushed it out and drove a bit with windows open and footwell vents blowing, but how do I prevent this from happening again? I don't do that many miles and, of course, I tend to use the Scorpio most of the time...

Embrace the mould. Use it to make your own penicillin or bacteriological weapon. Or just scrap it.

I used Google a while back to find out that stuff called borax prevents and removes mould, and it did in my Golf which had a grim, festering interior after sitting for 8 months. You can buy it on eBay for a £4.

Hopefully you don't end up setting the carpet on fire or something.

I'd just give it a good clean with warm water and fairy liquid or something rather then deploying a chemical weapon in the car. It's not like there was a full grown mushroom field growing out the arm rest or anything.

I always use these things in the Sierra.

Or the Pound shop equivalent. :D

They trap a supprising amount of water over a couple of weeks and I havent had to scrub the seatbelts since.

I have bought them in wilkinsons before, but I tend to use the local £1 tat shop and buy a load when they have them.

I make my own for the camper over winter

Shallowish tin cans - pineapple/tuna/water chestnuts etc

lid removed, washed, dried etc.

half filled with salt

tin foil lid, secured with rubber band/gaffer tape

a couple of screwdriver size holes in the top

The job's a caret

shake with vigour every couple of weeks & replace after about 3 months

Throw down some cabbage and cauliflower seeds into the footwell and get a mobile market garden.

Change your socks twice a day, or if a genital infection, keep your bell-end clean.

That's a bit drastic, just use the A55 coast road. No problem. Especially in a B-series Farina...

Why don't you just whack a too-small socket over it, tap it on really hard with a lump hammer and twist it off?
