Anyone fancy an FTO?

Was browsing the, surprisingly interesting, local forum (of which I am not a member) and saw this, so I thought I'd create a thread for it, as it looks pretty decent and the vendor seems to be plagued by rather poor selling skillz (e.g. he doesn't even mention the age of the bloody thing!). A 1.8 badermatic 'sportscar' has to be bona-fide shite!

Don't know much about these but that does look like a pretty good deal. Low-miles, auto, and IIRC not even officially sold in the UK, so what can possibly go wrong? :D

FTOs did come in as officially sanctioned grey imports via Ralliart UK around 1998-9 I think.

That'll be the 4-cyl one, same engine as the MX-5. If the one that used to live near my mother-in-law was anything to go by, they'll take a good thrashing and come back for more. Suspension needs regular fixing (but that could've just been Fife roads), but apparently Mitsu dealers are quite happy to help, with parts and servicing.

Thats actually quite strong money for them (although it looks quite nice). They go for peanuts at the moment. Was going to ask the other week whether or not anyone know of any serious problems with them as they seem to have got cheap very very quickly as they were commanding a few grand just 4 years ago.

I have been looking at them on e-bay for a few weeks and they can go for a few hundred quid for the ropier examples. I am well tempted to have a punt on one at some point soon.

If it's the same as the MX-5, then I think it's the same as my 323F. :D 1839cc, DOHC? If so, bloody marvellous!

Or have I got it completely wrong, and Mazda made two unrelated engines at the same time with the same capacity...?

Mitsubishi used Mazda engines?!

Unfortunately my parallel universe of nonsense, rarely intersects with the here and now. Sorry, my bad.

I'm sure he would gladly accept a grand for it, possibly even less.

My wife really fancied an FTO around the same time as she was looking at Nissan Figaros which must say something about them......... The V6 engined ones are supposed to be highly rated though their image is more comfortable Coupe than all out sports car.

The 2.0 V6 makes a nice noise, and I went through a particularly myopic phase where, whenever one drove directly towards me, for a split second I thought "DB7".

1.8 Bader sounds spectacularly miserable. I'll take it!

FTO has been ruined for me by OMGJDMJAPANISORSUM!!!!

I had a look at one of these just before I bought the Scirocco.

Auto 2.0 V6 with a manual over-ride thing. I disagree about 'comfortable cruiser not sports car'

It absolutely revved to buggery 8,000 odd and sounded rather nice.

Went round corners at high speed and much alacrity too

£1100 with some MOT but...

It started off in 3rd & changed to 4th

It would only select the first two gears if manually selected or kicked down

& the temp was in the red after 4 miles

So I drove it back very rapidly and walked away.

These are very popular with Paddy Barry, with a good few being for sale here around the border. I've seen a few around here, notably a very tidy bright red V6 on a manual (which I'm told was fairly rare). The bloke now has a mark 1 IS200, so clearly has a thing for Jap sixes. Equally, a fat lad of these parts had a totally FUBAR white 1.8 slusher with a spud launcher and a shopping list on the doors. ISTR him being pwned by 1.1 Saxos.

I'd rather have an FSO to be honest....

Wouldn't most of us?

They're lovely looking cars, but they did nothing for me when I drove one, they're based on the Galant I think? They're also in the bracket of affordability for 18 - 21 year olds now. Deffo future classic, I buy one and look after it.

I like it, something a tad different now that most of them have snuffed it. However it would have to be a 2.0 V6 badermatic for me

alot of noise and no action in these things apart from the mivec manual maybe to many sheddy imports have put me off.

Yeah, the only one for me would be a manual 2.0, even then i would rather have a Celica GT, the Misu's interior is a fair copy.....media?id=1671644195

The floor mats in that image are a dead give away  walk away now!
