Not sure what this is (SOZ) possibly a Morris of some sort? Bloody nice whatever it is...

DSCF1722.jpg

Morris 8, from the 1930s.

My sister lives in Chester................................................... Which has nothing to do with anything really, just thought I'd mention it. I'm a strange bloke...

Edit: just run that Morris through DVLA, it's from 1936 and is still taxed, apparently! :D And engine size of 784cc points to my original guess being correct, it'll be an 8.

Northwich, yesterday:

landie2aa.jpg

Nearby to this was an ancient and abandoned looking old haulage yard with a few seriously old HGV trailers and a couple of old chodmobiles inc. an early looking 'pre-bubble' Rover 214/6 with the rear end dumped on breezeblocks.

Let's have an update as my spotting count has been dire recently.

Unusually for one of these it's been left outside and doesn't seem to be made of carboard boxes, chicken wire and Isopon

catinglassesLOLalsorubbishcarspotting006.jpg

This bloke is quite clearly living many dreams. A regular feature on a Sunday on Bridge Street, Chester, obviously NOWHERE NEAR THE SELLOTAPE SHOP.

catinglassesLOLalsorubbishcarspotting009.jpg

Oddly enough there's a fair chance it was purchased new just across the road at the now (sadly) closed Ford dealership. Many an hour was spent in here as a youngster day dreaming of Peppermint coloured Escorts, Cortina Mk4 2.3 Ghia automatic estates and shiny new Mk1 Fiestas. Dad used to get the odd spare bit for his Mk4 Cortina estate from here, though he had the foresight to get one in beige.

catinglassesLOLalsorubbishcarspotting010.jpg

Spotted cast aside in a non-ferrous metal yard who have maybe started taking cars in now, seems a shame but it was probably knackered or something.

catinglassesLOLalsorubbishcarspotting011.jpg

Loose Shites. Time was there was loads of similary shit looking LDVs, usually piloted (arf, arf) by two bob dole chaeats who wanted to be self employed. This self employment usually seemed to be roof specialists who run out of mortar so use kids chalk instead (I knew someone who confessed to doing that more than once) and calling themselves fencing experts because they once nailed some old wood to a shiplap panel.

catinglassesLOLalsorubbishcarspotting007.jpg

Here I just pissed about with some model Albion or Leyland trucks and two housebricks.

catinglassesLOLalsorubbishcarspotting004.jpg

I've got a couple of the blue four-wheeler, it's just labelled "site hut truck" underneath. I can't see Albion or AEC detail in the front grillework, so must assume it's a Leyland. Can't find any of the 8-leggers (I should have three or four knocking around), but I think they were just labelled "pipe truck" so the same applies. Very effective photography there, btw!

The Ford dealer was Quicks; my brother-in-law's dad was a sprayer there. Small world.

Posted

Quicks moved out to Saltney way, and were there by 89/90. My mate Woody used to work there. I worked up the road opposite the cement works for a while.

Posted

Woody rings a bell, wasn't he some sort of nutcase foreman who instilled fear in the workshop lads? A lad I used to knock round with worked there (Saltney) as a sprayer and I'm sure he used to tell a few tales about Woody!

Quicks are now just off Sealand Rd where James Edwards Rover moved to after they shut the utterly brilliant Victoria Road site if you know it Albert?

Posted

I tried to work for Edwards in 1989. Apparently I "didn't fit in with their corporate direction" I told them to go fuck themselves. I ended up working for the local Independent LR dealer. I was a rather hairy, bearded, unwashed, 6 foot yeti. The only thing that has changed in 23 years is the amount of hair. Woody was similar in looks to me, but a little more rotund. He had a Green 88" Diesel, mine was a Blue 88" Petrol. I was known as "Wild Bill" on the CB, and he was "Hill Billy". My handle had travelled with me from Wiltshire. I was homeless when in Chester, and spent most of my evenings in the Saddle on Grosvenor Street, the Bear and Billet, and the Nurses' Home at Countess. Ahem. Sneaking out at dawn was fun indeed.

Posted

The Saddle used to be a good laugh, it's now called the Chester Bells and is another pretty boring poncey hole. I remember the Bear, probably the most notorious boozer outside of the Highfield or George & Dragon at one time.

Quicks was open in town within the last 18 years as I used to call there with my last job occasionally. What a pain in the arse going up that ramp at the side with a weighted down trolley!

It was indeed.

Apologies for neck twistingness of pictures, but I'd flipped them the right way, saved them and then when I downloaded to to Botophucket they came out like this again.

This was parked in town on Sunday. Unbelievably clean, even the inner arches were in the same shade of turd brown and unmarked.

crapcolouredmerc.jpg

This was spotted in Matalan* car park yesterday and again incredibly clean

acclaimofshine.jpg

*It's a sort of mingebag's paradise where you can huy horrible clothes, rubbish suitcases and vile tat for the house.

Posted

I went to a Matalan once looking for a steering wheel cover and came out with a toy FX4 taxi.

Why that's relevant to anything I don't know...

Posted

This was going to be my spot of the day. Stood out like a beacon in a blackout and even street wise kids walking past were muttering 'cool' and 'class' etc.

riverdeeandshitespottingjune2011021.jpg

And there was me thinking you were talking about the LT which is surely more shite-worthy than some old French thing ;) I might be bored and browsing AS because I can't do much of anything else today.

Yesterday whilst enjoying a bimble across the Cheshire plains with just my dog as companion I espied these wonderous chariots.

Station (and others) may know of the location here, it's the marshes 'twixt Ince and Helsby. I hadn't been before but had heard tale of many a knackered/stolen/dumped car being left there but only found this which didn't look like any of that.

spottingetcapr2012001.jpg

Helsby area next, this seems to be perma-parked in a field on the road that leads up to where the GR8EST motorbike shop ever (H. Dugdales) used to be. Soz about the shitness of the picture/s, I get uncontrollable shakes when I spot anything Vauxhall related.

spottingetcapr2012005.jpg

spottingetcapr2012006.jpg

Then, just as I was parking up I caught the tale end of some VCC rally or other so only managed to snap these in blind panic.

A bit of a shit update situation here:

This was actually far nicer than the rubb-arsh picture makes it look. Maybe he was a Kawasaki fan or something, I had a KH250 in this colour many yonks back.

DadcanwegoontheridesSTFUImsnappingawfuloldtrucks023.jpg

This Honda(?) was so nice I was forced to NOT BE ARSED TO GET OUT OF MY CAR to take a decent picture.

DadcanwegoontheridesSTFUImsnappingawfuloldtrucks043.jpg

And here I just pretended to be posh, like I lived at the back of Chester Castle and drove a shit old car because I have so much class I don't need to own a posh car. I failed miserably of course, but some REALLY FIT bird might be browsing Autoshite and on the basis of this picture may offer me some sort of three minute relationship in Wetherspoon's toilets one night.

Time to revisit this thread with a long overdue update. This is Yorkshire, this week.

Heartbeat, why do you piss down when Cavette visits you?

I did suggest to the breadknife that my lad and I should go and see if we could help this poor geezer. The response was something akin to asking if I could knob her younger sister and there was mutterings of 'holiday/stop looking at shit cars/let's move on'. I therefore conclude I hope she goes on holiday with one of her mates in an elderly BX, they break down and nobody helps them. Anyhow five minutes later the car was gone so whatever it was they must have fixed it.

scarborough2012lol279.jpg

scarborough2012lol280.jpg

I doubt this place sells much. Had some nice stuff in (and a museum at the back we didn't go to) but price wise it was all a bit mad...

This was outside the same garage and I had a quick chat with the old boy who owned it. It was absolutely mint, he said a bloke in his village fully restored it and he (bloke I spoke to) hadn't even seen it until a chance encounter with the owner and they struck a deal on it. He said it wasn't cheap but was considerably less than it had cost the fella to restore it.

scarborough2012lol291.jpg

scarborough2012lol292.jpg

Finally someone on the same LUXURY static caravan site quite literally living the dream with his pound shop wheeltrims, battle scars and mis-matched paint. Just a mid-boggo spec 1.8 which was a bit of a change from Ghia models, butb they all seem pretty rare now sadly.

Not seen the Land Rover for a while. It belonged to a local farmer until it was about 2 years old. The Cummins bodywork was fitted to it around 1971.

I believe another one can be found on Hemsby and, Col. Gaddafi’s 6 wheeler Range Rover is now selling ice cream at Tenby .

Posted

Needs moar sideways framing and less Yorkshire.

Also, that sidevalve Ford ice-cream van gets about, there's one just like it doing the rounds in York near the Castle.

Posted

Oddly enough...the ice cream van was situated in York near the foot of Clifford's Tower. I could have had a better shot of it but at the time a really miserable looking (and quite viciously un-hot) bird was scratching her arse as her whiny kids were ordering a 99.

I have got a photo of it somewhere in that location - now that I look at the photo it's in the same place as last time......

Was the Landy Ice cream/Drug dealing Van outside Whitby Abbey? My long since defunct spottage thread, lost in 'The Incident', had a shot of it in the exact same spot..

Posted

Erm, I think so! It was at the very top of the hill by the Goths's's's's's's favourite hang out.

Posted

That's the old garage in Thornton-Le-Dale isn't it. They sometimes have some interesting stuff for sale, but I imagine they must get loads of touristy tyre kicking wasters being situated where they are.

I was initially perturbed that there was no picture of your little dog in any of the pics which is usually the norm. It's a bit like a shite version of Where's Wally? but on closer inspection I did find him! 8)

Shame to see those cars at the Heartbeat garage in such a bad way: they looked rough when we visited in 1999 and appear not to have moved since so I guess they're too far gone for restoration now. The whole place looks very run down and seems to have been neglected since the show finished.

Posted

Are those rusty ones from Heartbeat? I don't know because I could never watch an episode without vomiting blood.

Nice to see they've looked after them. These people are worse than banger racers/ratlook people/pikeys etc.

Posted

Yeah, the garage seemed more keen on flogging overpriced postcards and general rammel then bothering with doing cars up. The Anglia looked saveable but the Morris 1000 Traveller, recovery truck and A40 were completely bollocksed.

They did have some old British motorbikes in the garage which seemed to be in the process of being done up and there was a 'no photographs' sign near them which I ignored of course. They didn't half sell some shit in the short time I was there so obviously tourism is keeping them in a nice living. When we go back (next year all being well) we're going to get the train up from Pickering and see how far into the weeds the cars are then.

Obv. you can go round looking at shit things like panoramic views, expensive tea rooms, snowy hills and rivers. Or you can catch sight of the Autoshite Tours bus and peg it sharpish to the coach park, where some inconsiderate BASTARDS parked modern shit next to it.

You can pick up a similarly aged Santana PS10 for just a grand more than that, but it's nowhere near as fucked looking.
