I think the twin cam is a great engine and really underrated, streets ahead of the 1.8 CVH (although I know many will disagree with me!) That sapphire looks in better shape though, plus its a facelift, so i'd say keep that!

Many moons ago I had a G reg XR4i with the DOHC motor, purchased cheaply because it had a rattly chain. It was quite easy to change, and the bits were less than £100. I had a cracking car for three months, until a transit ran into the back of it.

The Ghia , its a no brainer. Its closer to the original design than the facelift, will make better money if it ever needs to get sold on, its faster, probably smoother and wont really cost anymore to run.

Alternatively, put em both up for sale and keep the one that doesnt sell first....

Is the money important right now? If so, sell the Ghia. If not, flog the Sapphire as the Ghia will be a much nicer place to sit, as many have already said.

BUT... Sierra? Mercury Grey? I wouldn't have bought either of them, let alone be stuck with two! Mind, I suppose paint isn't expensive, if you really feel you have to have a Sierra. Some people are just born masochists...

Keep them both and search for more

I only have 13 of them now but somhow the Scorpio collection has grown to 9 ?

Keep the one you trust most, or feels the nicest to drive.

I love Sierras,`would gladly own another

Pulled the stereo out of the ghia (the prongs were in the toolbox) but it's too old for the code calculator! I have some win95 spec code calcs on a disk somewhere but it is much more likely that the stereo and amp will be removed and a modern CD fitted instead (I won't chop the wiring, honest).

Until I decide which to keep, I'm alternating between them randomly. This means that I keep forgetting where reverse is and the CVH feels like it has a pot off for the first five minutes. I'm preferring the ghia trim and the twincam engine, but still like the sapphire because it has a boot. Maybe I should sell them both and get a 2000E. Or, get a 2000E as well. Yes. that's probably better.

Fordsound 2000. It has a 7 digit serial and a 3 digit code. I've found the disk, finding a PC it will run on might be more difficult.

Amazingly my wife STILL hasn't noticed that I'm using 2 different cars to run her around in. Sometimes it's quite quick, firm but comfortable, other times it is a couple of inches longer, a bit too hard and seems to take forever. Maybe she thinks the car is taking v!agra

If you don't have any luck, send me serial number and I'll try and get the code.

I'd keep the Ghia, if only for the higher spec. Pity that it isn't a Sapphire, as you could make a weird hybrid using the best bits of both it and the LX :)

Both cars are now outside my house....

Keep Both! I voted Ghia because its the one I want the most!

you could have had it..................

The one with the 4-spoke steering wheel! Honestly.. I see benefits of both but much prefer to drive something with spokes like that.

After some initial confusion about seeing double, the boss has decided that we keep them both. LX for during the week, ghia for weekends ;D

something for the weekend sir?

i happened to be driving it at the time, just as Romulus Augustus got the blame for the collapse of the Roman empire (Western division), although Odoacer was the cause. :D

Back to no sierras at all this evening....

My daughter has the ghia, because her polo urgently needs a front wheelbearing, Autofive has the LX because his cortina urgently needs a head gasket.

One of them hasn't driven anything bigger than a 1.0 polo since passing her test 4 years ago, the other has "accidently" killed at least 50% of the cars he has borrowed from me (and 100% of his own too).

How many sierras will I have tomorrow?

PS, I had to drive home in a Freelander. I feel dirty.

Norm -

Somebody please tell me that I'm dreaming

It's not so easy to stop from screaming

But words escape me when I try to speak :P

the LX is being treated like delicate souffle.

(he) has "accidently" killed at least 50% of the cars he has borrowed from me

an accident is when no-one is to blame  .

I am very grateful to scary for offering the LX as overnight transport and it will be returned with fuel, and a large slice of cake.

Driving the LX home I found it very quiet, comfortable and the cvh responsive and undramatic, you dont need to exceed 3000 revs at any time, even on steep hills

Is I too late, in this convoluted story? I voted Ghia anyway, 'cos I'm not fussy about seeing an LX sitting outside me house...

Posted

Norm, get me the lyrics to "My Old Cortina" by Gruppo Sportivo and I'll be impressed. Until then meh. (I hadn't even heard of the all-american rejects. I still wish I hadn't)

Mike, glad to hear it. I suspect the other one will return with an empty tank and no cake.

Well, the ghia won. The LX is sitting in the yard wasting it's tax and test away - I had a "buyer" for it, I retested and taxed it, he didn't come back

So, anyone fancy a sierra sapphire? I think it's got 10 months test and 4 tax now, looking for £450.

Asking here first out of politeness, like. Next week it's ebay/gumtree fodder.

Try the Sierra Owner's Club site... A few knobheads on there, but people with money don't always have taste.
