If I absolutely HAD to choose a new car, it'd be either a Chrysler 300c with a hoofing big V8 engine, or a Vauxhall VXR8- ditto. honestly all modern cars look like grey porridge to me, certainly not appealing enough to warrant getting into debt for; even more so when you consider that all that'd be in my budget for a brand new motor would be something dismal like a base spec panda, hyundai P.o.s or one of those nasty little "chevrolets" . I don't do normal. I have to have something that nobody else within 50 miles would be seen dead driving. It was 23 years after its launch when I finally considered that Sierras were rare enough to get one.

*top tip. give it another couple of years and those 300c's will be available for buttons. big thirsty mass market car = massive depreciation

Still i think it ironic that the car has now been trashed by a yob.

Not ironic, merely hilarious.

Ok it's a sad hobby, but he didn't deserve to get it trashed

I know. I must admit there was a small part of me that felt quite sorry for him. But a larger part of me could see the funny side of him spending lord knows how much time making the thing absolutely immaculate only to have some wanker drive it into the side of an ambulance. As far as I know, that's never happened with a car I've sold on, some of which would positively have benefitted from a coming together with some traffic.

I normally have an intense dislike of BMWs, but I like the look of this incarnation of the 5-series and cast a guilty glance whenever I see one. Understated in comparison to the current ugly fuggers.

Fork me, there's some love about for Protons at the minute. Anyone want to swap a boring diesel for mine?

Reckon the waistline on those rear doors could have been any higher?

Also, +1 for the BMW E39 love.

The latest shape 5 series look ace, wish I could afford to roll in one.

I also like quite a few of the current Hyundai range, the 120(?) looks ok to me and I bet they're dead reliable.

Have to admit a soft spot for Proton, they try so hard, get so close but never quite get it right. Marketing budget cars and spending all your time and energy on making them look surprisingly cool and handle well is an odd course of action! So long as the Malaysian government does not want to loose face, their products should keep rolling out!!

Also have to admit a soft spot for the Lightburn Zeta

Not just because its from my hometown of Adelaide, but also for being a monumental cock up. Big hot country with lots of long, straight roads in the middle of nowhere. What could people want? How about a tiny, plastic two-stroke with no opening to the rear compartment, plastic sliding windows and a price similar to the new british mini? Wonderful!!!!

I wish Proton would make another proper hot hatch, like the old Satria GTi. Which is another car I'd like one day

Looks like a startled Ford Anglia

I reckon Proton fucked up by moving away from Mitsubishi based products that were tried and tested.

At least they are moving back to Mitsubishi based cars again - but it will be a while before they are at shite lovers price levels.

The other problem with Proton is that they have not moved with the times - the other original budget brands that they (used to) compete with already offer far superior products (e.g. KIA and Hyundai) and they'll need to up the ante if they think they can pull it off in the future - something that looks unlikely to me right now.

When was the last time you actually noticed a new Proton on the street/in an advert?

Strongly agree with this, they look absolute class in a glass. The previous one didnt do much for me though.

I also think the E39 is lovely. In fact I really like the looks of virtually everything up to the E46. The later ones look shit though, no matter how well a 1 Series drives I could not bare walking out every morning and having to look at it

A neighbour recently bought a 1 series and I quite like the swage line on those. I parked my Montego behind it and it was a case of swage-tastic! The Monty is far superior in every other respect of course
