Unfortunate Facelifts.

I think we may have done this before, but the dislike threads reminded me of examples like this:

Although I think the new model facelift might have been an improvement:

Post yours.

Allright they changed the name as well but it was really a facelift.

True, but the last couple of years built were improved with darkened headlamps, a repositioned grille badge and less chrome.

I actually think that's not a bad looking chariot. Damn these drugs are good.

I know you've already done the scorpio, but...

And as if that wasn't bad enough, they completely ruined the wiring as well so now nothing works and you can't put a stereo in them without the dashboard exploding and the airbags going off.

The mk1 Megane facelift looks quite tidy in the metal.

The utterly dismal 1990s facelift of the Toyota Corolla, which turned an inoffensive-looking boring car into a hideous-looking boring car:

The facelift was penned by a Briton, too!

I think they got it right with the black headlamp 'facelift' Scorpio. I actually like the look of those.

They're not bad, but only in estate form, as the rounded rear end of the saloon is completely wrong in my eyes.

Christ, I'd forgotten about that (despite owning both).

It's all the C5's fault, isn't it? They brought out the crap-looking c5 and then ruined all the rest of their cars to match it. Bah.

I think this may be the answer.

Anyway...

From:

Dullsville but neat and inoffencive.

Hmm, that grill isnt an afterthought is it? Rover would have been proud of that!

Eventually:

Looks a bit better than before I suppose, but now its all swolen like a fat lip.

And of course now they all look:

They were everywhere 5 years ago.

More italian plastic abuse:

So perfect and pretty it deserves 3 photos.

Add some daft US legislation and some ill advised plastic:

+1

Agree - Original Megane design was helped by Stevie Wonder, but the facelifted model still looks fresh and are actually a nice car to drive.

Sadly, they then got Ray Charles to design the fat-arsed model. What idiot designs a car with less bootspace, less legroom, steering that might as well be by remote control, worse performance and mpg than the out-going model; and truly shit reliability - that'll be Renault in 2002.

Provided that they haven't all already gone to electrical hell, the 2002-2004 cars are already starting to look dated imho.

I like the look of the FAT ASS megane.

They are epically shit though, any "family car" that fails on the surveyors' tripod test needs to have a word with itself (see also: Audi A3).

Also, I had a very hallucenegic experience in one as a combination of sleep deprivation & heat-stroke. FLOATY.

I had one as a longer term rental when I was working in Israel back in 2004/05 and actually thought it was a pretty decent car overal; - it got the best average miles per gallon of all the cars I drove at the time too at 37mpg and I certainly was not hanging around most of the time

Of course due to the curse of French electrics I wouldn't buy one with my own money  but I never had any issues with it at all.

Agreed.

I rented one for a week when in DC a couple of years back. 2-litre four with CVT; spun it around the District, Maryland and Virginia for several hundred miles - it was inoffensively competent, though heavily disguised...
