RIP.

*edit*

Mick Karn too - fook!

This really is a sign of me getting old.. :(

Another legend gone.

He made a LOT of great tracks, but Baker Street is of course an absolute gilt edged classic and a part of growing up if you're in your 40's.

My Dad died last month aged 64, as did Tom Walkinshaw. Not been good at all.

R.I.P Sirs.

That is very sad news :( , Baker Street is definately an all time classic.

I have only recently bought his greatest hits album.

Mick Karn from Japan / Dalis Car too

you're kidding! I loved Japan, and followed the rest of the band through their careers.

Poor old Mick's demise has been eclipsed by that of Gerry's, which is a real shame :(

63 is no age at all...I'm in my forties so it really makes you think.....

Baker Street is one of those records that should have been a Number One but wasn't. I can't recall what kept it from there....something from Grease probably?

Perhaps I should be worried, I'll be 63 in a couple of months too.

Can't sing though so I'm probably OK.

Baker St. was released on 18/02/1978 and got to no. 3, looks like it was kept off the top spot by Abba with 'Take a chance on me' or Kate Bush 'Wuthering Heights'. :?:

Got to number 2 in the US charts, held off the top spot by Andy Gibb 'Shadow Dancing'

Wow. I had no idea of how his life was playing out.....

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/ar ... 5982235253

He was seldom seen in public in later years and rumours circulated of his increasingly eccentric behaviour. He was said to be paranoid and depressed and he entered into a bizarre feud with his elder brother, Jim, who became so exasperated that he set up a website in which he launched virulent attacks on his brother, calling him "the Great Gutsby" and "my psychotic sibling".

In 2006 he was taken by police to a drying-out clinic after they had been called to escort him from an aircraft on a flight to Scotland. He was reportedly so drunk that a wheelchair was required to move him from the plane. In August 2008, he was committed to St Thomas' Hospital in London after police had again been summoned when he wrecked an hotel room in the capital after a whisky binge.

A few days later he absconded from the hospital leaving his belongings behind. A missing person's report was filed, but he turned up some months later, issuing a press release in which he claimed that he was living in Italy and announcing a "new" album entitled Life Goes On.

It was another attempt to throw everyone off his scent. He was actually living in Dorset and the album was hardly new at all, but contained remastered versions of songs from old albums and a brace of well-known Christmas carols. It was his final release and marked a sad end to the derailed career of a consummate songwriter who at one time had the pop world at his feet.

You git - I was going to do an RIP obit thread for EACH of those, just to get the number of topics unrelated to the subject matter on the first page up a bit. Maybe I still will.

BUMP FOR A REAL THREAD!

RIP The Dog (out of the Roger Red Hat books).

No, he came back down from heaven on a Yamaha motorcycle (of all things). His return didn't go entirely to plan though, he pulled a skid and killed a kid - so that's another one to add to the RIP list.

Are you working on the Sidney Devine model of longevity here?

Sorry, never heard of him although I do share his initials.

You lucky, lucky, lucky guy! Scottish performer (I wouldn't say singer, trade descriptions etc.), sold 15 million records or so, and is awful.
