Well the time has come to sell this, I've got too many cars and this one isn't getting used, so it deserves to go to someone who will get some use out of it! I drove it to Stondon for the Autoshite meet a few months back and it didn't miss a beat, also been to Norfolk, Surrey, Gloucester, Herts etc in it.

MOT June 2011, tax (exempt) July '11. Owned since October 2009, and in daily use until recently. Just had new exhaust fitted, new tyres, clutch, stainless sleeved master cylinder and secondhand "ribbed" gearbox fitted about 7000 miles ago. Original 948cc engine, drives well but does use some oil, would probably benefit from new piston rings at some point. Bodywork is fairly good for the age, although there is some filler in the front panel, the paintwork is best described as poor and there are numerous dents and scrapes all over the car. The interior is original and has some splits in the front seats and headlining as expected on a car of this age. This has been a very reliable little car and I will be very sad to see it go.

Price £1100 ono, I am prepared to negotiate if I know it's going to a good home ;)

Some recent pictures, the missing headlight rim has since been replaced and the numberplate bracket will be welded up today!

If I promise to give it a loving home would the price decrease substantially? It is by far one of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen but my bank account has been brutally sodomised!

These are such funny cars, impossible to not do a little LOL when you see someone travelling around in one!!! They look like something off a kids TV programme, even a Minor looks like a fuggin weapon next to one of these.

Thanks everyone! Obviously I'd rather sell it to someone on here, so it stays in the family, as it were.

Torsten, I've sent you a PM!

What's the biggun next to it? A 'Bridge or a Westy?

A 'bridge. 1958 A55 to be exact. The Maestro and Landcrab have each sneaked into a picture as well :)

A55 Mark 1 eh? I was thrown by the ostantatious side chrome strips - they weren't standard were they? I though the A90 and A95 had those.....?

I've got an AA 'Drive' mag from 1972 with an article about someone buying an A55 for 25 quid as their first car - and it was basically shagged. Where I used to live in Zummerzet, some guy ran a grey one until arouind 1982/3. It waqs always quite tidy and a rare sight even then, but sadly it ended up in the scrapyard. Guess it's no different to a 1986 Montego getting weighed now.

I'm sure I remember that one! Wasn't it 2-tone blue, IIRC?

Yep an A55 MK1. I've checked out pictures on Google and it would appear the A55 MK1 had the chrome strips as standard.

This one very nearly got ovalled, it was that rotten!

Bloody hell, that was quick! Hats off to Torsten.

I've got that! (Somewhere...) All the 'first car' punters were very fashionable, ie. long hair, A-line skirts and loon pants you could go camping under

Mine, mine, all mine! I had a drive this morning and it's magnificent!

It was single tone sky blue with red leatherz - originally a grey one I think. It was a great article - all kinds of 17/18 year olds with rusty + shagged 100E's, Minxes, Minors etc. One yoof had a very tidy Z Magnette. Kids driving basically unroadworthy shit. No car credit then.

I nearly bought an A40- pre farina. It looked just like that A55 but has a different arse end. Mega solid too apparently! I was put off by my experience with my Oxford. Horrid car that was.

Congrats Torsten, you tat vortex!

That's a rare bastard! 1200 B Series naughtiness, the Austin equivalent of a Morris Cowley. Neck snapping.

A40 was the 1200 cc version of the short tail A50 iirc...?

I think this pre-farina A40 may still be available, if anyones interested? "just needs recommissioning"

If theres such thing as a short tail A50 then this is it, it looks like an A50 with a short tail.

Wow the A40 Cambridge is a rare beast indeed! This lovely original example often attends shows in this area :)

I've fired off a message and i'm awaiting a reply. It was in storage last time I heard, awaiting a buyer or a slightly different fate...
