2011 shite plans?

Option 3 (the one I favour) - Full body restoration and engine rebuild. Baring in mind ive only ever swapped a few panels and an engine on a car (with help), it'll be a learning curve. I also have a vision of how it should be thats horning me up 8)

That's where I am with the A40. I thought, well it needs painting, so I should just strip this off... and this... and this... and you know where this is going, don't you!

And of course while things are off/out, it makes sense to renew them, and the A40 was pretty basic so let's throw in some upgrades...

...such as these nice 1985 Escort Ghia seats. I still want a Wolseley steering wheel! Like you, Alex, I have a vision of the completed car that's sustaining me. It all takes time, and when finished it'll be much more comfortable than they ever were, a bit more stylish (I know: in the eye of the beholder and all that) and a bit more powerful. I roughly outlined my plans to a Cypriot about a year ago, who was near the end of his A40 restoration, and he said he thought I was wrong to be upgrading. What I say is, his car is exactly how mine would have looked new, so why do we need two on the island? I feel completely free to make my own interpretation of an A40, simply because his exists at all. It will be encouraging to see progress though, at the moment it's all hidden.

I'm selling everything and getting an Audi A3 1.9 TDi "S-Line" on tick.

Hey, I got a lift off a lad with one of those the other day. No-where to keep a can of Rio. Nowhere.

It was costing him £400 a month on tick. Four hundred. A month.

Have they got rid of the cupholders then? Weird.

maybe it's their way of doing their bit against "drink driving" :D

Not buying any more shite unless it's a cheap breaker. I have three with MOT's, one with valid disc'n'surance. The big one needs to be moved out of the lock up and into the workshop to be valeted and serviced (antifreeze and oil/filter) but I'm not planning on taxing it until mid year. The 318iS Coupe wants taxing and insuring around Feb/March so it can be used, and the other one is in desperate need of some love and an MOT end of Feb.

Basically getting all three into nice (and legal) nick.

Just been thinking. XJR+406+a few hundred quid. Would that be enough to buy a tidyish Sapphire Cosworth?

If not, it's gonna have to be a fast estate car. E55 AMG or whatever else is still cheap because it's shit on fuel.

2011, hummm. The plans flexible but I should be getting my Allegro back fairly early on, although it will probably go straight into storage. The Audi is an ongoing rolling resto and I have a pair of wings and a rear door to go on as the originals are a bit grotty/damaged. This will take a few days/months to sort so I have a reasonably straight 1.6 Maestro auto with a long MOT and borked valves to stand in as daily transport- Im dragging it back home tomorrow and have a brand new head to remedy the engine probs. I'm not sure what to do with it after the Audi returns to the road with a fresh MOT and new panels but I haven't ruled out breaking it to aid my slow burning 1986 Maestro dizzler resto. Thats so rust free I'm reluctant to actually use it!

Id also like to attend a bukkake party (not in the middle, though)

I take my virtual hat off to all of you who will be either keeping vast and consantly-changing fleets of shite going (as in the Tat Accounts thread), or are planning major restorations against all odds, or will be delighting us with their spottings of rare and endangered species. My more modest aims are : 1. To clear enough space in the garage to make space for something interesting (which will be a major job as at present there's only just room for my two bikes and one of them is a folder  ) 2. To find something interesting to fill the space that has become available. :)

Current thinking is along the lines of a running restoration, but then my ideas change almost weekly

Looks like i will be getting a rotten V8 musclecar (a save from the banger racers), also i hope to sort out the bodywork on the panda (rusty rear arches), and also sort the brakes on the A35 (then its in for the mot). Only other thing is to diagnose the problem with the delica then fix that :)

De-rusting most of my fleet is becoming a must-do thing for next year, which is unfortunate as I can't weld and can't really afford to pay someone else to do it. Mind you, I didn't think I could strip an engine before the house move and I've managed to do that!

2011 plans?

SEAT - staying in the fleet for the foreseeable.

Sprinter - Probably staying at least 'til 2012. After that its not compliant for the London LEZbian zone so that might be a problem. Then again, it might not. And buying a newer Sprinter would be expensive.

R4 - In limbo. I love it. But I have thought about selling it although I probably won't despite the fact its not getting much use. Possible orgy of spending coming up - new front wings, few bits and bobs and some paint. I'd really like to take it to the R4 50th birthday event in France. Or it might just get SORNed and laid up in a quiet corner of the unit. Really need to get my mojo back and crack on really.

The first half of 2011 will be used to tidy the escort up enough to carry on using it as a daily for the forseeable. You know, not a full on resto, just a good, solid daily.

It needs some other odds and sods, but as the MOT ran out 2weeks ago, and the tax is up in 4days, I'll wait until it returns from the bodyshop to worry about that.

The k10 needs some bits of tidying and a good polish. MOT runs out in august so we'll see if it passes, if it does it might be sold as I really fancy something a little bigger.

If I were in the van rental business I'd do special day rates on sat-nav equipped small to medium sized vans from my depot (with ample free parking) just outside the LEZ limits.

Now THAT'S a fucking ace idea. Commers, Mk1 Trannies and CFs, the odd Leyland Buffalo, Clydesdale etc... AEC, ERF, all classics and exempt...... What a bloody earner!

Brief outline for 2011 is:

Micra- Continue to use as daily and perhaps a novelty show car (what with the mileage and being 21 years old), then see if anything else comes along in September...

Allegro- Get it through MOT, get some ticket on it and try to sell over the spring/summer period.

Cambridge- Just a general tidy up, track down a few missing bits and pieces and sort out the terrible wob repair on the nearside rear arch.

A strange thing happened to me yesterday which has helped to map out 2011:

I DIDN'T BUY A CAR!

I went to look at a Mk 2 Scirocco which I fully intended to buy and I quite frankly just could not be arsed, I am sort of amazed really, I normally buy anything and the conditions were right, so in order:

1. Red Maxi back to BL Transverse, throw lots of cash at it and hopefully swap with Michiel for the Florian, no pressure Michiel!

2. Buy the Superminx on RR, I think I'm about to as soon as the owner gets home

3. Swap the BX for Scooters Torslanda, next week I think, roll around in that so's I get to know what a Torslanda's like

4. Get the ex-Bickle now Torsten 1938 Standard Flying 9 back to BL Transverse - very exciting. With that Nigel gets the Lancia Beta, Ssangyong Musso & Renault 12

5. Finally get the waterpump sorted on the Renault Estafette

6. Austin 1100 MOT'd

7. Minx clutch sorted and MOT, noticed some rust in the engine bay that needs sorting.

8. Continue the clearout: Police Lada, Talbot Horizon, Fiat Punto Cabriolet, Mercedes W114, Mercedes W115

9. Rationalise the bikes, 1 modern, preferably a Triumph if not keep the GSX750F. Get the Guzzi 850, Morini 500, MZ TS250 & 150, Honda XBR500 MOT'd

10. Start to restore my Matchless G80

Buying plans? I have none, I know after yesterday I'm going to be a bit more selective. My family situation is changing rapidly, the Dungeon (my underground storage) is becoming much more of a business which means I can't keep shoving it full of tat. The Standard has made me realise that with a few exceptions British is the way forward and what I've done with the Maxi's has made me realise that I get an enormous kick out of getting condemned cars back on the road. I know I'll spend more on them than they're worth but it is a form of recycling and the people that have my old Maxi's have absolutely loved and cherished them!

2011 could of course just turn out to be shite!

You have a police Lada????? Damn, I emigrated too soon! I really really want one of those! Those things can catch Aston Martin V8s, on ice! (As proved in The Living Daylights; if it's in a Bond movie it must be true  )

Posted

I think it was one of the ones from a Bond film, actually I must get that on the road before I out it!

Goldeneye I think, I can't be bothered to find a photo. The scene with JB driving a tank through the centre of Moscow being chased by various police Ladas (and chasing a Volga)

WTF! I have just seen what you are on about, I would like that, really I would. No way to contact the seller... other than going round and knocking on the door as I know exactly where that one is.. slim chance now mind.

Could be Goldeneye, yes, there were enough police Ladas in both movies. If it's yellow, it's Daylights. White would be Goldeneye. Come on Torsten, post up a pic to settle this for us! :D

Got a busy year planned. First in queue is the 126, get her mot'd and use her. Secondly, get my ADO16 mot'd and swap the engine for the 1380 with all the extra's that was 100 horsey dyno'd in a mini and probably stack it lol! Thirdly, get the 3i up and running, just clearing the workshop out so I can get stuck in, busy busy busy! :D

Thanks Torsten, top cop shite! It'll be a Goldeneye car then, or possibly Bourne Supremacy. I love it... :D

Nice, wouldn't mind swapping that for the Flo either

I might have to get you and Bickle (any other candidates?) to fight over the Flo though, I've discussed a swap with a certain small sports car in his collection some time ago... and I'll have to try to get in touch with a prospective Dutch buyer again, see if he has any money yet. If not...

Posted

The Standard I foresee as a keeper!

How could I possibly get in the way of a Bickle exchange? Go for it! The Maxi's transport has been sorted today so watch this space!

Posted

Wow, that Lada is lush! I'd drive round in that all day!

Posted

Me too Tim! Starislavsky and Hutchovitch? Mrs Ramrod wasn't too keen on my last Lada, also a G-prefix Riva 10 years ago, so I don't want to think about what she'd say if I brought that home...
