It reminds me of the Super Shell advert from the mid 1980s that used Queen’s I want to break free not long after it was a hit.

MET POLICE ROVER 2600 SDI IN CRASH 80s 1

I've never seen those alloys on an SD1. Wonder what they are and why?

Minilites, didn't they fit them on Police SD1s to help with brake cooling?

They’re Minlites and the Metropolitan Police started fitting them on their 2600 auto Area cars after some brake fade incidents. Traffic cars , which were usually V8s and manual rarely got them, although my first speeding ticket in 1981 was from a sneaky copper in a green 2600 Traffic car with Minilites on the North Circular.

Presumably any Minilites you see on SD1s, P6es etc are part of that Police batch.

The 2600es were replaced by 2.0i GLS Auto Sierras , the brake issue wasn’t a problem for them, but they all ended up with 4x4 Sapphire bonnets, presumably because of overheating problems.

I am glad you are so observant and that you asked. I just thought Jam Sandwich and then moved on.
