It hasn't changed much over the decades.

Notice how they put a dogleg in the left hand post to avoid taking up any more pavement than absolutely necessary.

Today there's probably one of those fucking advertising screens taking up half the pavement.

If that train is moving then the Mini driver is being very brave following that close.  No brake lights on a train!

Even at low speed, they pull up a lot less sharply than a car.

That is quite a spot!! - probably on my way back from Daventry possibly in April 2017 judging by the trees and my diary.  The other comment in my diary at that time was that I was peeing blood.  In July I was diagnosed as having bladder cancer.  I gave the car away in June 2018,  mainly because my health and outlook did not look too good and I was unable to look after the Stellar or even concentrate on it much.  The Stellar passed through 3 forum members and was reviewed by Hubnut together with @mat_the_cat's V8 Stellar during that period. It needed a fair bit of body welding and attention to rust when it left me. Nothing too bad as it passed an MOT immediately prior to me letting it go.  It was a nice old thing which I bought sight unseen from a chap in Carlisle in 2010 with just 32K miles recorded. It had around 80K when it left me.  No regrets though.  I've still got my 1961 Reliant Regal MK6 which I've had since 1992.  I have not driven it at all this year but  I keep it road worthy, historic taxed and insured.
