My tuppence worth

ER slagged off Allegros and praised BMW's - misguided and baffling

Fred tried to foil spammers - fair enough but a bit too earnest

...and then there's some ridiculous campaign of hate.

Honestly I'm not on here that much anymore, I have no problem with anyone on here but I this bullying attitude is just not on, I find the swearing distasteful now that it's becoming the norm, McDroitwich is there for that.

If we're not careful Autoshite will cease to be the site we love, it's already starting to lose its charm.

Pah, he's as much of a car geek as the rest of us. Leave him be, just give him a slap if he mentions his perceptions of handling from the passengers seat again. james laugh>

Yeah, it's fuckin' funny, but it's not much of an Autoshitey welcome for the kid. I know it's not like we need more geeks in here, but you never know. He may turn out to be like MM5 and produce all kinds of useful skills. He may find a delivery mileage Tagora TD in a shed somewhere, and sell it to us for a fiver. He may be superb at spotting bits in Autojumbles. He may even turn out to say something funny, although I doubt the fact that he's an anti-abortionist who likes shite old, unpopular cars is beatable for ironic comedy value.

Could be Richard Hammond on a wind up, for all we know... It'd be fucking elaborate if it was though.

Anyway.

OMG, that rocks my world...

I'm going to post it again, just to piss off Milf/Len this time and because it's full of ZOMG!

I hate pea roasts.

chaseracer, that's where you have entirely missed my point. I am aware of how I am perceived, and am in no doubt that users on here will hold that perception for a long time. However. I OWN that fact. ER, for all his good intentions, is oblivious to any suggestions to calm it down a bit, perhaps try another tack, or indeed just give a brief moment between posts. He is toatally unaware of how he is perceived. (or is he??) But no. Therefore I do what I do. Sure, I get bad press, but there are a few curtain twitchers on here that agree with me, but say nowt. A few people have openly agreed with me. Like I say. NO guilt. I will sleep. Without Horlicks. Thanks.

I'm sure you will :|

However, I have not missed your point; on the contrary, I understand it only too well. You see, my bright, intelligent, musically-gifted 14-year-old son has Asperger Syndrome, with all the social issues that entails, and it scares me shitless that at some point in his life he's going to be faced with an ignorant bullying prick like you. I can only hope that he's able to deal with that without permanent damage.

Everyone else, have another Solara:

As for the whole E_R debacle, I find it a relief that I was elsewhere when all of this kicked off. Yeah, I stuck the boot in on one occasion, and I'm not proud of it. I nearly jumped on the bandwagon but refrained from doing so because the morally dubious circumstances.

Unfortunately this isn't the first time I was glad I was away from AS when there was a crisis of membership. At best I'm ambivalent to E_R, and find myself agreeing with Pete about seeing a younger self in some of the lad's posts. I don't have a problem with him provided he doesn't spout drivel about driving experiences as if they were his own. He's clearly daft about cars and needs a place to vent, but he's that unfortunate age where aspiration and ambition are not commensurate with a suitable bank balance.

'So what?', you might say. MM5 can't drive and manages to not come across like E_R. I seem to recall some of the AS old hands giving him shit for no good reason also. E_R may be misguided, and might not be a perfect fit for Autoshite, but new blood has to come from somewhere. I'm also aware of the cathartic value this forum holds for a good number of the people who post on here, myself included.

Let the downward spiral continue, then. We shall not occupy your lousy leasehold.

Now, as I think you're all aware, I try to let this site moderate itself. One of the things I've always been really rather proud of its its liberal attitue & generally welcoming ethos. I understand that other folks' attitudes/comments etc may not always be everyone elses cup of tea, but we've always all been pretty accepting.

This whole E_R/aspergers situation had obviously got some of us a bit hot under the collar. Fair enough. But surely its aout time we drew a line under all of this & get back to what we all do best - post pictures of obscure unloved vehicles, chat about our automotive woes & life's general gripes?

Group hug anyone?

I'm going to do a thread on all the shite in Greenaway's masterpiece The Falls when I can be bothered to get screencaps.

back on 'topic', lets all shut up about this now and move on eh lads??

What a depressing 7-pages, the whole forum is 90% wittering bollocks/complaining about modern stuff/general swearing nowadays.

This is particularly classy, sums up a lot.

Well, you could always keep your kids in a bubble, away from life......

Fuck off!

Cheers for that AR

WOT BOLLOX SAID.

'Tis true. And this thread isn't helping anything. If ER is a troll who intended to cause trouble then he's managed that in spades. But mainly because we have let that happen. Move on, he might be genuine, if so then great lets let him settle down and contribute something worthwhile. If not then he'll get bored eventually and depart.

We are all here because of a common love of obscure, unloved old cars. So can we get back to that please?

This thread is getting a lot better now ,but wot no Avengers? I once had one of these, which I believe was screwed together at Ryton, although some of it was built at Linwood; but it seemed that they had run out of vinyl after doing half the roof :(

meh, I don't want to say I told you so.....

I think seriously, if everyone (including me  ) stops replying to ANYTHING he says he'll get bored and wander off. But right now, we are his new toy, and he certainly has nothing better to do.

Actually, I'm carrying on. It's certainly more fun than redrafting my CV. I've got L7 on and everyfink.

Yeah, but I've none in, and the shops don't serve alcohol after midnight. Perhaps someone could nip round to ER's place and ask his dad for some of that matured single malt that he thinks is still unopened in the drinks cabinet.

ps, had you noticed that this thread (and grumpy/grin) seem to be 100% true (as in free of eccentricity)

Very. It's like the bit in 28DL where they go shopping, and it almost looks normal for a while. Shame about the zombie devestation on the rest of the board, but at least we have irradiated apples (and fine malt)

I'm beyond tired and into surrealist dreaming, btw. Wish I could sleep.

Just a thought, but could one of the net sleuths obtain a phone number for the eccentric residence? (i am looking at you SOC).... There must be some mileage in ringing up e_r's mum and letting her know that her little darling is being a pest/making an arse of himself on the internet (again)

'Lord of the Flies , William Golding's classic tale about a group of English schoolboys who are plane-wrecked on a deserted island, is just as chilling and relevant today as when it was first published in 1954. At first, the stranded boys cooperate, attempting to gather food, make shelters, and maintain signal fires. Overseeing their efforts are Ralph, "the boy with fair hair," and Piggy, Ralph's chubby, wisdom-dispensing sidekick whose thick spectacles come in handy for lighting fires.

Although Ralph tries to impose order and delegate responsibility, there are many in their number who would rather swim, play, or hunt the island's wild pig population. Soon Ralph's rules are being ignored or challenged outright. His fiercest antagonist is Jack, the redheaded leader of the pig hunters, who manages to lure away many of the boys to join his band of painted savages.

The situation deteriorates as the trappings of civilization continue to fall away, until Ralph discovers that instead of being hunters, he and Piggy have become the hunted: "He forgot his words, his hunger and thirst, and became fear; hopeless fear on flying feet." Golding's gripping novel explores the boundary between human reason and animal instinct, all on the brutal playing field of adolescent competition.'
