RS bodykits always gets me excited, My dad bought a E plate Sapphire back in 1989, it was bright red with the full RS bodykit like above, It looked the dogs, Sadly he only kept it a short while as the garage had fitted the rear skirts over the rear tailpipe and on a drive to Cambridge one day we all ended up falling asleep and having to pull over due to carbon monoxide poisoning.

 

There also used to be a white F plate Granada 2.9i Ghia X about with the full kit and the 7 spoke alloys which looked great, and i still know of a F plate Orion 1.6i Ghia in Grey with the full kit that's been living in a barn since 2000 with under 50k on the clock, I really should make the effort to find out if the guy will sell it.

I also once had a magazine from the 70's that featured a test on a Mk1 Fiesta with the full X-pack, It looked mental.

RS gubbins on these two? Think I saw the Orion just recently. Scorpio long gone though.

 

It's odd how they often showed them on the GL/Ghia models - the chrome trim looks a bit out of place.

Am I the only one who thinks Tupperware on a car looks utterly shit?

I don't like them either. When I was about 6, my criteria for finding a car 'interesting' was that it had chrome bumpers, not plastic. I obviously haven't changed that much since then!

 

I do like the X-Pack Cortina though, if only because it looks like the most half-assed attempt to jazz it up they could manage - it looks totally standard!

I'm not normally a fan of bodykits tbh, but these and especially this Sierra look HAWT!

MM5 recently pulled a full RS bodykit off the Mk 3 Fiesta scrapper he had for spares.

 

Also, is it me or does the colour match on most of those skirts pictured look shit? The Sierra estate in particular is very bad.

I don't normally like 80's bodykits but there's something about that catalogue that reminds me about childhood and nicking the catalogues from Quick's when I thought the salesman wasn't looking.

 

Perhaps they're the exception that proves the rule. I love the RS alloys though, and I'm normally not a fan of hard \ softlines.

Whatever, its not to everyones taste. It was an ongoing project, I had the rubber door strips which just needed painting.

Fugging love all this stuff.... remember having to go into a Ford dealer with my grandfather - must have been Lincoln way, seem to remember we were on holiday which was always Skegness. Anyway, it was an RS dealer and I did my usual "scusememistercanihaveabrochureplease" to the salesman and got that exact same brochure.

 

The win was the next day, seeing a mint white Orion, brand new, parked in Skeg with the full kit on and then a metallic blue Granada later on in the week, with the same treatment. Was pretty popular stuff, and it does suit the lines of the cars. Remember back then there were no half-arsed bodyshops glueing wads of fibreglass to anything, it was either dealer supplied or you could get the odd wing and skirt from the likes of RGA and ERA.

Anyone remember these?

When the Mk1 Mondeo was launched it was available in Citrine Yellow, with bodykit (why I've remembered that nugget from the brochure all these years on, I know not). I think it might have been an Si, although it may just have been available on any model in the range.

This 2000 fezza is now in my posession and although its from a more recent era I do fancy dressing it up with some of this plasic tat. And I don't care if it makes me look a bit daft!

Other kits were made by KAT, Skeete, Silver Knight and others which will doubtless crop up as I go through all the magazines from Baz and continue sorting my own. That's without thinking about the many German kits.

 

Fibresports catered for slightly older stuff, including RS replica wide arches for Capri and Escort.

 

Custom Car (or CC as they called themselves for a while) went quite big on them in the '80s.

I think the Sapphire kit looks brilliant, sadly there is probably only a handful left, if any! I think the only 80s Fords still around with RS bits and bobs are Orions, I have seen two locally with them. They both dont have the sideskirts though, which looks weird.

I'm glad that these pics have amused people and/or sparked debate. I am not a HUGE fan of bodykits myself, but when they are 'right' I love 'em. I think these RS kits were well done. I must agree that the MK1 Sierra looks great, as does the Mk1 Fezza. Triggers post of the x-pack Escort is fantastic - I think it looks superb, although I question the graphics on that particular car myself. How cool does it look from the front though?!

 

OH: I remember that the mondeo in citrine yellow was only available with the RS kit too (it WAS always the Si model)! I remember when I lived in Edinburgh and the local Ford dealer had a recovery truck in half blue and half citrine yellow - quite a cool truck at the time (1995)!
