Love the K reg Mk2 Escort. Early plate madness!

Brilliant pics!

I love New Brighton, used to go bowling there when I lived in Wallasey. Shame they ruined the sea views with those bloody wind farm things though.

Posted

Don't worry AXRescuer, they're preserving New Brighton now by building a much needed retail centre/Morrisons on the seafront. NICE. Posted Image

That TR7 is there every year, as most are.I saw it on a flatbed twice the day before. Who wouldn't like to enter some shite into this and break down on the first corner?

Cheers for sharing Mark, some ace pictures there. Someone my lad vaguely knows was racing there and snapped two driveshafts.

What is the format for racing in these sort of things mate? Take it you'd need a specially prepared (and inspected) car or something?

Marvellous stuff! What a perfect venue in New Brighton Prom. My Anglia never did what that yellow one's doing though.... 8)

Thanks Billy :)

And as for the "format" , i don't 100% know.

But there are guidelines that you have to follow and your car has to pass scrutineering.

A mate of mine got asked to leave the New Brighton Rally / stages, as his rollcage did not conform with regulations. (The Rollcage, harnesses and seats have to be FIA approved)

The only thing i honestly know, is that it costs a bomb to do, unless you can find sponsorship.

As you have to get a rallying licence

Prepare the car for the events (Tonnes of Tyres, Fuel and so on)

Trailer the car around and no doubt a lot of other things to boot.

Think the best person to ask on here would be Pete-M, as he helped his mates out with a number of Escorts and a Sunbeam

It ain't cheap.

Licence is the easy bit, it's stuff like fireproof overalls, fire extinguisher systems, FIA cage, etc etc etc that cost the money.

It is good fun, but don't be thinking you can do a season for less than a good few grand.

Just doing the New Brighton thing yesterday will have cost most of the local competitors about £800.

I recon its a Triumph 1500, pre-Dolomite. They had shorter boots.

Posted

Not the 1500... the 1300 had the short boot, as did the Toledo, but this doesn't look right for either of those. In fact to me it looks like it's been cut apart and rebuilt around a spaceframe, with the boot simply chopped to wherever the builder wanted it (or possibly to where the accident damage wasn't apparent). Those rear lights look correct for a Dolly (and 1500) as does the boot lip, it's all just a bit closer to the rear window than Triumph intended.

My mate's got a Nova in his garage, 1400 16v from a Corsa in it. It's the one I did the wiring in. The car, fully prepped, plus enough spares to give him a fighting chance (i.e. three or four sets of wheels + tyres, a few driveshafts and other oily bits) stands him over £8000 and that's before he's entered any events. It's not cheap, but it looks bloody good fun. Last all-tarmac event, with a borrowed 8v after he detonated the 16v with 16,000rpm in first gear, he was catching Mk2 Scrotes.

It was down as a Triumph DOlomite Sprint V8 in the free magazine (If i remember correctly)

Think a Toledo boot has been grafted on, i mean look at the rear wheel arch :)

Dolomite...

and Toledo...

...both of which were mine. Bodies unmodified, so if you can see them well enough, you can compare wheelarch lines etc.
