Cross pollinated cars

Found this quite interesting. These aren't really shite, but they're borderline shit. Basically, cars sharing same floorpans, with swapped over front ends!

Corgra:

Corsa with Tigra frontend!

Cavibra:

Cavalier with Calibra front end!

Rear wheels on that Corsa / Tigra look utterly fucking stupid.

On a less offensive (to the eye) note, and definitely in a shitier vein, here's a beauty from the e-Bay thread earlier this week:

Marina Coupe with Ital front end. If only they'd grafted on the Ital rear lights, they could have made out it was a BL prototype.

Someone post up a Monstro! There used to be a bright pink Monstro van in Solihull. Eye-catching!

I've often wondered what a Kadett coupe with a Chevette front end would have looked like. Quite do-able I would say.

You get a lot of Golfs with Jetta front ends doen you.

Not like this though, this just looks shit. I dont mind the square headlamped Jetta golfs. I think they look quite good if the rest of the car is left alone.

*edit* Like this one. Of all the mods i see on Golfs i think this one looks okay.

I remember years ago seeing a MK 2 Granada Coupe someone had built, the MK 1 looked better.

A cross-pollinated 205/309 should also be possible, shouldn't it? IIRC they shared the same doors, windscreen, etc., didn't they?

That Astravan looks really smart! as does the Sunvenger!

I remember having dreams for years as a kid after seeing a Mk 2 Escort van with a RS2000 nose cone fitted and dressed in Ford motorsport colours, I sure it was in an old issue of Custom Car, I'd love to see it again.

There was a facelift MG ZS built using a Civic Aerodeck knocking about - cant find any pics at the mo' though...

Edit, I found this Rover 45 based on the Civic Aerodeck estate

Edit #2 - here it is....

Trying to find the Calivier, a Calibra with Cavalier frontend, it looks pretty nice!

A Bolf?

Hmmmm - I like that Rovic.

This thread makes me think of James May's ridiculous Saab9000 Alfa145 contraption though

Did they officially do a Renault 9 with the R11 quad headlamps? Sure I've seen one...and liked it 8)

Liking the Rover / Honda combo. That works for me!

If you likey - here is another view 8)

Oh, and another one - not as sharp looking

Yes - it was just a style shared between 9 and 11 AFAIK. My Dad's 1.2 Broadway had the quad-lamp set-up.

That Escort with the RS nosecone will have taken a metric fuckload more work than you may think as the estate is quite a bit narrower than a Mk2.

Other than that, I think the rest of 'em, with the exception of the Corga look fucking awful, and I don't like the stretchy tyres on that.

I seem to remember the problem with the RS nosecone was, it was designed for the Mk2 saloon shell which was narrower than the Mk1 and had different side contours. The estate and van, for which the nose was a popular DIY addition, were the Mk1 shells with a revised front to echo the Mk2 saloon. Consequently the aftermarket cones had to be revised to fit the (wider) Mk1 contours. I like them on vans, less so on estates.

I give you a Mercedes W140 with a W220 Front end. Not sure if this particular one is photoshopped, but I have seen one in Brussles, if I see it again I'll grab a pic.

You're close, but as I said earlier, the MK2 is the wider one, so they'd have to narrow the nosecone.

Now you've done it... my friend has a large collection of Mk1 and 2 Escorts, and I'm going down to his garage in an hour or so. You just KNOW I'll be taking a tape measure... I'm sure when I read the original Autocar road test back in 75 they played on the new model's lack of girth (the difference being about one whole inch!).

Hmm If I'm reading this right then the Mk 1 was wider then the Mk 2?.
