Autoshite Day Out....Simca style!

I was off today and as it forecast rain this afternoon, I decided to take the Simca for a little morning spin to the Stondon Motor Museum which is about 10 or so miles away. The museum has featured before on here but they do seem to change their stock around and it's only £6 to get in so worth a punt!

As usual, the place was deadly quiet...one other couple who sounded Dutch were there, so maybe it's listed in a Dutch 'Top 50 Things To Do In Britain' book!!?

It really has the most eclectic range of vehicles you could wish to see....ranging from mint to downright shabby. Nothing is in any logical order so you might get a rusty brown Daf displayed next to a Ferrari....that's how random the place is!

Anyway, I spent an enjoyable couple of hours there and here are some of my favourite specimens!!

NSU and VW Variant looking extremely tasty!!

Peugeot 504 in quite good nick, actually

Ambassador in same drab red..

I can't for the life of me recall the nomenclature (that's a big word!) of these Beemers....but it was hidden behind a Daf and Victor F type!

Reliant Kitten...REPEAT!...Reliant Kitten!! :P

Imp in, if I'm not mistaken, Caribbean Blue.

Dolomite in Sandglow next to Talbot Sunbeam in poo brown...does life get any better??

Lovely 104 in Trigger Kadett orange..

Marina Coupe and Hunter

My favourite BL car...this one in Pageant Blue!

Mmmmmmmm!! Yummy Rapier!

Can't remember if this was an Austin or Morris 2200...all the old crap surrounding it is typical of the whole place...crud everywhere!!

I can't think of many museums that would display a nice FSO AND slightly doggy Lada together....but nothing too much trouble at Stondon!!! 8)

Then, amongst a sea of tat....THIS!!!

Another 'once on every street corner, now you never see 'em' motor..

I really can't remember what this poached egg thing was...any ideas?

Lovely Polo saloon...or was it still called a Derby on a 'V' reg?

4926546096_3c2e8c8627_z.jpg

Nice CX

4925948547_0b08cd4db1_z.jpg

Now I do like a nice Camargue!! According to the blurb, it would have set you back £29500 in 1975 when it was launched. I'm glad to see that some effort has been made to dignify this particular exhibit with some plazzie flowers in a Georgian urn thing. Quite right too!!

This was minty!! (though I'd rather have a Horizon)...

Rare Viceroy next to a camp 'Purdey/Isla St Clair-style' mannequin thing ??!!

Is this Honey Gold? Rather nice I think!!! :P

..and finally, my absolute favourite car on display. Absolutely out the box and in Applejack..a fabtastic 70s BL colour!!

Oh, then on the way home I spotted this! The perfect autoshite ending to a perfect morning!!

Your Simca is GORGEOUS!

Nice pics. Unknown bubble is a Nobel. Must get to Stondon before I move away from the area!

I could live there quite happily for the rest of my life.

 ORSUMZ

I really would like to go there, looks a proper Autoshite museum. And as wobbler says, your Simca is fit!

I would like to be buried under an exhibit in that museum when I die, not too fussed which as they are all the bo11ox.

It seriously looks like the best museum of all time, and the ultimate venue for a shite meet-up (shite-up)?.

Well lets have one then, in a couple of weekends hence. :)

Fuldamobile! Thats it. It did have some blurb about it. You can always really on autoshiters to come up with the goods!! 8)

Balls. If you're on about 11/12 Sept, I'm away. Weekend after? Does clash with non-shite Goodwood Revival mind...

WOW!!

Anyone up for going on 3rd October for a wander round?

Coming to Stratford CCC rally Ian?

Must go to Stondon. I already missed an organised visit the CCC did earlier this year. Pug 104, Derby, Alpine and Renner 5 for me! Thanks for the pics boobydoo

Simca = to die for!!!

I seem to have concentrated on mainly 70s and 80s stuff, but if you've never been, there is simply everything from about 1910 onwards. Some of the old veteran cars I'm not that bothered about so I skipped through that bit..but there's all sorts of old buses, fire-engines, police cars. It really is the weirdest place.

They are all owned by an 80 year old private collector by all accounts who still shows up there from time to time.

Oh, and when you've finished looking around, there's a sort of library area with old car brochures and car mags!! I spent ages looking through some old 70s Fiat brochures..126/127/ Strada/ Mirafiori etc. They'd probably let you read them in their very 'autoshite' cafe!!

We spoke about a AS meet at Stondon at the beginning of the year, I'd be totally up for that, I'd take the Kadett as well as it's not too far, 4 hour round trip :?

Great place , thanks for sharing ,

I remember going to a car museum in N. Wales many years ago just like that , I think it got torched in the end , cant for the life of me remember where it was though.

That place looks ace. What a great collection.

Will have to make an effort to get down there sometime.

I've missed it when its been on here before, so thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Are there any recognised classics in there or is it chock full of shite? I love the FSO 125P wagon, they must be extinct outside of that museum.

That place looks fabliarse!

Similar to the Atwell Wilson museum in Wiltshire...

http://www.atwellwilson.org.uk/cars_list.htm

Only a fiver to get in too.

Look at the list of tat awaiting restoration (bottom of the page)!

Booby - that Simca is a gem!

Looks like a great place, I bet its deathly quiet in there too apart from the odd drip and creak too.

I am hoping to visit that shite musuem in Wiltshire soon, considering one of the founders has just died Id presume it hasnt got too long left in it now. Hopefully some of those stored cars (on the year old list) have gone back onto display now....

Posted

I'd be up for an A/S meet there too. As long as its not the weekend of 12/13th Sept anyway.

I'd even get up really early and come down in the Ren4.

Posted

Excellent stuff.

I'd have the blue Ro80, very tasty.

How do they manage to get anything in or out of there!

Posted

That FSO has a Leicester reg, so would probably been a Swithland Motors '£1000 for your old car' job....

I really must get out more...

The sort of museum that will display a 125 estate, or restore a Polonez, is my sort of place! What a shame I won't be able to visit. In which case, boobydoo, thank you so much for sharing! And really tidy Simca too, I can't remember when I last saw one that nice... or even at all!

Posted

What a place! Heaven.

Thanks for those 8)

BM is a 2800CS.

Isn't this the earlier 2000 version? Front is a bit different.

 Phwoooaaarrrggghh (sp?)

I want that FSO Estate and I want it NOW!

[anorak]"Pageant Blue" TR7 is actually Tahiti. [/anorak]
