thanks @dougbut it came with one

I really liked your old kitten in that turquoise colour, I'm going to try and get a set of those alloys for this if I can

interestingly your old one is in a few YouTube videos now

finally have a Kitten.

My earliest memory of school, when I was probably 4 or 5 , was being asked to make a car scrap book cutting pictures out of magazines and the car I chose for the front cover was a yellow Kitten saloon, and some 43 or so years later I still remember it and hence buying this

Its also ULEZ exempt which I'm hoping will help me get my mojo and confidence in old cars back again as I can just pop to the shops in it without paying that twister Khan £12.50

It looks great in the photos but its a bit rough on the bodywork close up but it seems solid and the guy I bought it from has done a lot mechanically so I'm hoping its useable from the off

and yes, I will be replacing those black and silver plates. it was originally on a different plate and came to the previous owner with the original lovely pressed steel plates with the 3D riveted digits but he sold the reg (it was a 555 reg) to put towards the money he spent on sorting the car

It's also the oldest car I've ever owned, it will be 50 next year

I've had earlier cars (1975 mk2 Escort, 1969 mk1 Escort, 1974 triumph Stag) but they were many years ago so only between 20 and 30 years old when I had them

Just watched some of the videos of my old Kitten. It looks like it has had a ton of work and money spent on it since I had it. Looks like a new steering rack, springs, and a complete re-spray.

I didn't watch it all but it seems like the guy doing the work wasn't the owner

I thought it looked good but then it looked good in your pictures anyway so wondered if it was just polished and good lighting rather than a respray

oh right yes.I remember it was a bit of a project because I'd been tempted to buy it myself but it was too far away but yeah that's a bit rougher than I remember. It looked great when you'd finished with it though

I genuinely laughed out loud at that post, it was like the end bit of 'The Usual Suspects', you played us well there.

A splendid purchase you've made, that colour really zings and the parpy exhaust is exactly how I remember them sounding when I was younger.

thanks. As previously mentioned the pictures and fading light flatter it a lot but yeah the yellow is one of the better colours imho

Its got a 4 branch manifold and motorcycle silencer on it which to be honest I might have to bin off as its bloody loud at anything above 30 mph

sweet! glad to see you have got yourself a nice Historic Vehicle, thats Everything exempt, the best way for motoring about London ! you will have to pop over and recreate this shot at some point :) from when @bobdisk very kindly popped over with his kitten and helped my fix the the dodgy throttle cable on REV at the time :) (tho it would be with my VDP rather then SD1 these days)

ooh thanks. I have a feeling the original might be in the car (I haven't checked yet due to its late arrival) but if not I may be interested if I can source a matching standard exhaust (no idea how easy those are to come by though)

Cheers

If the guy gave you his phone number it might be worth getting people to contact him direct, Shiply are robbing bastards on fees (basically the "deposit" you pay goes 100% to Shiply and the remainder to the actual shipper) so contacting them direct should be cheaper than through Shiply.

Keeping the manifold (they perk the reliant lumps up a fair bit) and getting a more sensible silencer may be the way forward.

Arek is good, and offers a nice discount as well if you message him direct.

Think this is an earlier snapshot on some different wheels…

yeah thats it. Sadly the dealer sticker in the back window has all but gone now (I have a picture of it beforehand though, it was Keith Thompson's of Oldham) .    The guy I bought it off flogged those wheels and the 555 Reg too unfortunately.

tis a shame about the reg especially when a vehicle still has/had period plates like that, you will have to see if you can buy it back somehow/at some point :)

I do wonder how much he got for it to make that decision. I only have one of the original plates (he kept one for his garage I think)
