155V6's New French Fancy

As some of you will know,I posted on the Ask a Shiter forum to find out what people thought of Renault Laguna Coupes.I was quite surprised that those who replied had pretty much all positive things to say.

I started looking around, there aren't very many for sale so not many to choose from.I decided that I would really like a higher spec car,but it would have to be affordable to run as it will be my daily driver. No petrol V6 for me then 🙁

There are some really nice ones around, but I don't have a huge budget & all the ones I could afford weren't really what I wanted.

However,an MOT failure on eBay kept winking at me,so last weekend I drove up to have a look.

Fast forward to today & this arrived 20260220_160311.jpg.3ad1c0420d4c805cbc5d51949b629c32.jpg

It's a Monaco GP DCi 180,this means it's fully loaded, the only thing I can see it hasn't got is a glass roof panel.

It failed on all 4 tyres,& a few front suspension bits.As I said,I haven't got a huge budget,so far I've spent around £1100 on the car,transporting it,& 4 of the cheapest new tyres I could find.

I'll update the thread once anything happens.

I always thought these were a right looker, it’s a shame they only sold about 10.

Get them wheels back silver!

I don't reckon there's anything too bad to worry about(famous last words). My Mk 2 with similar running gear has been pretty reliable.Even the electric handbrake packing up wasn't too much of a pain to sort.

Looks great, wheels look spot on in black, never got the hate for black wheels myself, go really well with certain colours white especially.

Those seats look mega comfy......

Mercedes really liked the styling too 😜😜😜😜Screenshot_20260220-221248.png.f83190f588b2af9acee4d617b0f7e7f9.png

A bit of progress today.

I decided to take the front wheels off, readyfor when the new tyres arrive.I went round & loosened all the nuts off.All that is,except for the locking nut on the driver's side front. In the end,I ended up breaking the locking nut key so the nut won't be coming off today ☹

Next I had a look in the boot,I was going to put the spare on & use a jack for the other wheel.I don't have a spare, just a can of sealant.Of course, the PCD on the Mk 2 Laguna is different,so I can't use a wheel from that. Two jacks it is then, both passenger side wheels removed.

There is a spare wheel well,I.emptied out the foam holding the jack & other bits & found a bottle of coolant in there had leaked & was sloshing around in the well so cleaned that up.

That was it for today, going to order a new locking nut key & hope I can get the last nut off next weekend 🤞

Hey that looks a cracking long term purchase that, ( I've got one n messaged u tother day, looks a great example + good spec.

From my experience these r a great underappreciated mile muncher - others seem to rave about there reliability too and can do mega miles apparently.

Keep us posted on this, worth checking on suspension stuff etc cos they can need re-doing after certain mileages but then they're done.

All I've experienced wi mine is minor electrical gremlins that aren't too much trouble that's all. And they don't rust too much.

And ps. if u do want an oem spacesaver mines spare

I very much like the look of the Laguna Coupe and always admired one (white and black like yours) that I often pass a few streets away. I've been looking as I've gone past recently and a blue Seat has been in its usual space so it may have gone.

Found it on Google maps though!

Thanks for the offer of the space saver,I'm going to look for a full size spare though as I'm bound to need it when I'm miles away from home.

Fucking French Shit! 😂

The Laguna 3 I quite rate actually, they really pulled their finger out with reliability. Nice car, something a bit different. I’ve not heard anyone have a bad word to say about the Laguna 3.

No worry I do have a few spare bits if u do need anythin.

Ironically I needed to get another spare locking wheel nut key for my drivers side front too- and that wouldn't do it either- nuts seem to get really tight on mine - had to get a garage to remove mine for 15 squid- to replace the fuel filter in osf arch, ran miles nicer afterwards tho

There's a spares/repairs one on Marketplace near me just now, was tempted after seeing this thread!

Do you have a link?

A bit of progress.

I took the 1st two wheels to my mechanic in the week to get the tyres fitted.I mentioned to him about the problem with the locking nut,& he lent me a copper drift, telling me to give the nut a few whacks with the biggest hammer I could find, using the drift to protect the nut.

The new key arrived yesterday,so this morning I did as he suggested & managed to get the nut removed with no damage 😀

I'll get the other two tyres fitted in the week,& on the car next weekend.

It's booked in for the suspension work in the middle of March,so not a great deal else I can do at the moment, just going to give it a general tidy up

Lovely looking car that. I often wonder if you took all the Renault badges off one what people would think it was!
