Im reasonably local to 'The port' as its known around here. So i can say ive been many a time. Never gets any better, only seems to get worse. Its a shit hole.

 

However it does have a wealth of good car auctions on the outskirts always selling shite, and also the transporter bridge.

 

Rest of it is grim though.

Well I'm actually typing from the office in Uskmouth to be honest but been living in Newport for that past 6 months and it's fucking pissing down right now!

I went to Newport recently. It was rubbish.

You should try living in Holland - now that's toss indeed

 

I find Newport brilliant compared to Vlissingen.

 

The local area can be a bit of a dump that's very true, however, on the upside I find the people generally very friendly and helpful overall.

 

It does have a bit of a bad rep generally speaking but so far other than dogshite and rubbish there's no real complaints.

 

Holland on the other hand was pristine and picture postcard perfect and so fucking dull it was unbelievable....

 

Newport maybe well be the built environment equivalent of autoshite

Had nothing against the place before but it's really starting to scroll my turds now. Don't even get to go over the transporter bridge (surely the shiter's preferred mode of river crossing).

Clearly a slight misunderstanding on my part here.... Newport's the capital of The Isle Of Wight & I was hoping for jokes and stories of old Morris Minors, 1950's scenery and steam trains. Ah well....

 

Where would you rather be? South Wales or The Isle Of Wight? Gimme The Isle Of Wight ANYTIME!

Fortunately, I get off the M4 at J28 coming to and from Cardiff and get on at J24 when I go to Bristol, so I miss the bit "round the top" where all the problems are.

 

Have to admit, Wales has the most shite roads I've encountered in the UK

 

What's with all these no fucking right turns along half empty roads - you always have to drive half a mile to a fucking roundabout - do a 360 then come back for a left turn?

 

If anybody gets stuck in Newport, give me a shout I'll put the kettle on

I just remembered the one thing I miss about Holland, well, other than good looking, long legged, slim birds of course...

 

Trafiic lights that actually change when you arrive at them - best I've ever experienced - then again, the place is so dull, I'd rather put up with shite traffic lights in the UK

I'm guessing that the Isle of Wight is at least as good as the Isle of Man, if not better, and the worse bits of Douglas are still a lot better than Newport.

 

A mate from Swansea once said he'd happily go into a club in any town in South Wales/Valleys, except Newport!

 

Don't know why it's a dump, I guess proximity to the vastly better Cardiff and Bristol dosen't help.

Get up into Mid and West Wales and they get a lot better, in fact some of the best roads in the UK, nicely maintained and frequently fairly empty out of holiday season.

 

Lots of money spent on the A roads a while ago, due to EU 'most disadvantaged region' status.
