Kiltox Posted June 5 Author Posted June 5 This is working but does look shit. Would recommend. F1 Autocentres has a deal for 15% off 4 tyres bringing a set of Uniroyals down to £300 - cheapest decent tyres I’ve found so far. Dave_Q, CGSB, Rust Collector and 3 others 6
SiC Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Having had both I'd side towards Rainsports as being better tyres. Kumho are decent for your average commuter runaround (like the set I put on the E320 I had/now cookiesouthwest) but I don't rate them for good handling. loserone 1

Supplier suggested its normal wear and tear. Given the 40 odd part worns of various ages I've fitted didnt and don't have any cracks in them I just going with the kumhos being shite. mk2_craig and Kiltox 2

It's matching the fabric so it's one step above the shit looking pins people usually use so not too terrible. Matty and Kiltox 2
Kiltox Posted June 6 Author Posted June 6 Anyone got any tips on how to find out for sure what type of battery should be in the Vel Satis? It has a 096 in at the moment, which needs replacing. Tayna says it should be a 115 which is quite a bit bigger (but shorter) - also recommends a 110 as an alternative. GSF also recommends a 115 ECP try to sell me a 096 which is presumably why it's got one in
beko1987 Posted June 6 Posted June 6 096 will be too small. I fell foul of this in the qashqai (good deal on the size, the spec was still decent enough)and ended up with some spare room in the engine bay 😂 I'd go 115. I'm getting away with it as my car isn't too electrically heavy*, you'd notice it on a vel shatis eventually I'd imagine. Kiltox 1
Kiltox Posted June 6 Author Posted June 6 Will collect a 115 from GSF and see if it fits, easier to return if it doesn’t. Clio is getting some Uniroyal goodness tomorrow. SiC, yes oui si, Cookiesouwest and 2 others 5

Rainsports are one of my go-to tyres. Very good in the wet (duh) and pretty good in the dry. They are quite soft so you don't get the mileage you might do on a Contisport or similar, but the significantly lower price more than offsets that. Matty 1

It’s the bias towards wet that puts me off a little for a car I’ll primarily be kicking the cunt out of in the dry, but they do seem better then most other options at the same price point Matty and MrBig 2
loserone Posted June 6 Posted June 6 Whilst they are mostly fine in the wet, they're certainly not an all season tyre and are very much a summer tyre. I don't think you'll have any issues with em. Kiltox and Matty 2

I've got an 096 in the C Class (was originally an 019), that's a 3-litre V6 diesel with reasonably complex electrics and it's been absolutely fine. Matty and beko1987 2
Kiltox Posted June 6 Author Posted June 6 Have also ordered an AC pressure switch for the Shatis to see if it fixes it Matty, AnnoyingPentium, dome and 4 others 7
Kiltox Posted June 6 Author Posted June 6 Can confirm that 096 is the right battery - though there's a little spare room it definitely won't take a 115. beko1987 1
Kiltox Posted June 6 Author Posted June 6 Replaced the Vel Satis AC pressure sensor and still have no air con but can see the pressure using my scan tool now - and it’s low (but not zero). Wonder if a regas m8 would now fix it 🤔 Another issue I need to look at is that the passenger side window and mirror don’t work. With it being both of them I worry that the door loom is damaged 🙈 privatewire and beko1987 2
Kiltox Posted June 7 Author Posted June 7 Tyre booking is actually for tomorrow 🤦♂️ obviously only discovered this after sending it there. Driver was moaning at me that there was fuck all fuel in it - seems the sender got all #justcliothings because after he put a couple of gallons in the gauge shot up to well over half a tank 🤷♂️
loserone Posted June 8 Posted June 8 Needs the stiffer sidewalls to make sure you can't exceed 30 on a country road
Kiltox Posted June 8 Author Posted June 8 The OE 80 load rating seem to be pretty hard to come by these days.
Kiltox Posted June 9 Author Posted June 9 Feeling like I’ve bitten off more than I can chew with the Vel Satis. It needs a lot of time spent on its various faults when I really just want it to do comfy barge things. Might appear for sale soon tbh, but I’m not sure I’ve really ticked that particular box if I’ve only driven one that’s a bit shagged. yes oui si and loserone 2
Kiltox Posted June 10 Author Posted June 10 This though, is excellent. Took it out last night and kicked its fucking head in and the difference on the new rubber is considerable. A fair old snagging list is building though, but that’s not exactly unexpected wuvvum, Dave_Q, IronStar and 10 others 12 1

beko1987 Posted June 10 Posted June 10 They should build 12v jump points into them for the caught out shitter, their sat there powered anyway. Open a hatch, connect jump leads, fire her up then don't stall again
